Rhet-Crop Spearmaster

Creature — Human Warrior

You may exert Rhet-Crop Spearmaster as it attacks. When you do, it gets +1/+0 and gains first strike until end of turn. (An exerted creature won't untap during your next untap step.)

My recommendations are probably not the best, but i tried to suggest cards which are cheap, because it looks like, you try not to waste.

I'd suggest a little bit more variety on the land base. Opal Palace, Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion or Flamekin Village should be pretty decent in Zurgo - even if the village does not do much for zurgo himself. Have you ever had issues with the mana base?

Not quite sure what Insidious Dreams does in your deck. I can remember i wanted to play it together with Moonlight Bargain but it was a very different deck. What is the main purpose of the dreams?

Rhet-Crop Spearmaster < Porcelain Legionnaire - some cards like the spearmaster seem like a filler card to me.Pyreheart Wolf does not seem too strong but he is in my opinion a very underated card in aggressive decks.

Additional cards which come to my mind: In the Web of War or even Hazoret's Favor - both have a similiar effect or some aggressive token generators like Tilonalli's Summoner

Thanks for the suggestions. I have this deck paired up against my mono-black standard deck so the deathtouch/removal was killing me and i dont think Trial of Solidarity helps much. I took out the Seraph of the Suns as well as the Victory's Herald for Serra Angel and Queen's Commission respectively. That should lower my mana curve and also help get more tokens out for Oketra the True. I also like Imperial Aerosaur and Emissary of Sunrise instead of the Rhet-Crop Spearmaster.

Trial of Solidarity would make your 1/1's into 3/2's with vigilance, and vigilance would help with your exert triggers. Sacred Cat and Anointer Priest would be better than Seraph of the Suns and Rhet-Crop Spearmaster. Your mana curve is pretty high for habing only 20 lands, try and get it up to 22-23, the cycle desert would help if you topdeck one you don't need.

only_the_finest I had s=considered cutting the Rhet-Crop Spearmasters since in my experience of playing they just always got chump blocked anyway. Oketra's Avenger would just be a cheaper version of that. However this might give the deck too many 2 drops.

I recommend the following changes:

Cut 2 Colossapede, 2 Bitterbow Sharpshooters, 2 Wall of Forgotten Pharaohs, 4 Aven of Enduring Hope, 2 Winged Shepherd, 1 Sandwurm Convergence, 1 Greater Sandwurm, 1 Mirage Mirror, 2 Life goes on.

Add 3 Rhonas's Stalwart, 1 Resilient Khenra, 1 Gideon's Defeat, 1 Dauntless Aven, 1 Tah-Crop Elite, 1 Vizier of the True, 1 Rhet-Crop Spearmaster, 1 Trial of Solidarity, 1 Sunscourge Champion, 2 Bitterblade Warrior, 1 Unwavering Initiate, 1 Initiate's Companion , 1 Naga Vitalist, 1 Act of Heroism.

The biggest problem of your current version is the mana curve, you have way too many mana intensive cards and very little ramp, so i would cut the 5+ CMC cards for the aggressive 2 and 3 drops from your card pool and play a more aggro version of the deck.

ticked-off-squirrel basically same cmc with Always Watching except that Always Watching affects all my creatures. And +1/+1 vigilance is more suited to an aggro deck than +0/+3 vigilance.

Cicjose I was between Blossoming Defense and Mighty Leap. I think Mighty Leap is a bit more suited to the aggro deck character but Blossoming Defense is maybe a sb choice.

Again I was between Devoted Crop-Mate and Rhet-Crop Spearmaster but your proposed card's ability doesn't always work even though it's a really good choice.

I dont understand why Haze of Pollen? Could you give an example of your thinking and maybe a proposal of which card to switch out?

Thank you all!

I'd really say making Always Watching a 4 of. Really seems like a staple in this deck. Also Rhet-Crop Spearmaster doesnt seem to neccesary, you definitely have some better exert creatures. Could take him out to go to 4 Always Watching and 3 Heroic Intervention
