Revision to deck

hubbard.bret, 13 years ago

After play testing this deck and quite a bit of feedback, I have revised it to this current build. I was able to cut it down to 60 cards and it is playing better. If anybody has any suggestions for this deck please let me know and I will see what I can do. Thank you!

The idea is to get the Geist of Saint Traft out, and that being the game winner. Every creature in the deck is a spirit, so attaching the Call to the Kindred to anything will allow me to bring out the geist or the Drogskol Reaver if I'm lucky. The other spirits have draw utility or tapping to help the geist get through unblocked. The Drogskol Captain will help protect any creature I put the Call to the Kindred on. Mana leaks should maybe be mainboard. It seems like it's going to be slow, and the mana leaks would help even that out. Not sure though.

type II tournament

Blue_Green_Beast, 13 years ago

Played a T2 tourney on Saturday placed 3rd behind an Esper control deck and a U/B spirits deck. It was a decent outcome considering it was my first time running this deck in a sanctioned tourney. Ran through a R/B vamp deck 2-0 round 1. Beat a WRR round 2, 2-1. Lost round 3 to the esper Control that took 1st.

P.S. Thanks to GP2XWiz, who gave me the starting idea

Thanks to a A Modern Melira and its creator KorApprentice I've made some cool cards discoveries, and decided to modify the deck quite deeply

Brilliant top decking got this through a gauntlet of decks. Tragic Slip/Dismember is still a bane. 3-2 via G/R Aggro 3-1 via Delver 3-2 via Bant Pod 2-3 via Ravager Wolf Run 3-1 via Ravager Wolf Run (part deux) 1-3 via Spirit Delver 4 and 2 for the day with a 2nd place finish. Being a rogue deck, perhaps its victory was due to the surprise effect. It consistently played well and it always provided a DoJ or DB/GftT/Dismember when I needed it the most (especially against the aggro!). Despite that I know it still needs help, but at a loss at what to add or take away.

aeonstoremyliver, 13 years ago

Added some Dark Ascension cards. Lost some ramp, but the Aggro level has increased... Also added another Primeval Titan, Kessig Wolf Run, and Inkmoth Nexus for another win con. Changed sideboard somewhat; added Sun Titan.

I want to add 1 more Goblin Lackey and 2-3 more Goblin Goon. Thinking about taking out the Bloodmark Mentor and maybe a Goblin Chieftain.

Let me know what you think.

FNM: last night my deck didn't do so well because of the matchups i played...i lost to a wonderful faithless looting build which was a total net deck. I also lost to wolfrun rock, net deck build, and blue white tolkens a great build. I beat RDW(net deck), heartless summoning(net deck), and esper control(net deck build). This was my first FNM since the release of DA. Overall, i was not very impressed on what DA impact on the meta thus far. However, i am quit sure that there is still a lot more to be discovered. The changes that i have decided to make are removing the porcelin legonaires and Dismember i added Tragic Slip and Leonin Arbiter. Plus, mikaeous, the lunarch seems like it would be great here. Also, i cut oneSword of Feast and Famine. Tolkens are fun and seem like a fun time...feel free to test this deck out, and let me know what can be helped.

Thanks,

Personally I think I will use Riku of Two Reflections It has synergy with a lot for creatures I have to copy so that's why I didn't use a lot of Legendary Creatures It runs pretty good too :)

Adjustment # 9

Ebonite08, 13 years ago

Well, went 2-3 last night with this build. Better then I expected, worst then I had hoped. Still not bad. I am noticing something that Shrodinger did: that the green werewolves are far more useful then the red. With red, it is hit or miss, but the green seems to have more consistency. That said, I moved to a far more green deck build. That said, let me introduce you to my new best friend against Delver and Lingering Soul Decks. In comes Corrosive Gale. That is right, spend two life or spend a green mana and you are wipe every single flying creature from the air. Insectile Aberration  Flip, Drogskol Reaver, and my very favorite, the dreaded Drogskol Captain. Yes, it has hexproof, and no, it is not targeting him. Rather it is a broad wipe effect for flying creatures only. For a werewolf deck, that is huge. No need to sacrifice a Full Moon's Rise for Blasphemous Act or your lovely wolf tokens you have been working so hard to litter the field with. I also was nosing around and came across this nice beauty, Whipflare. If they want to kill your werewolves or bounce them off the field, make them pay for it. Green Sun's Zenith is something I am going to toy around with. The principle is interesting. The idea is try to put as many lords (Mayor of Avabruck  Flip and Immerwolf) on the field as possible. Then you gather a token army to rule the world. Team Pavlov was the first deck to try this and now I am intrigued. I am going to test this out a bit and report my findings.

Removed the two Ashcoat Bear and replaced them with Plaxmanta instead. For the same cost, I get an extra ability.

I have also removed Naturalize and made it as a sideboard instead. I replaced it with another Venser, Shaper Savant and Vendilion Clique. This makes the creature rooster more formidable.

The last thing I've added is Cloudstone Curio. Once in battlefield, it will give more flexibility to you. For example, when you're out of counterspells and Mystic Snake or Draining Whelk is in play, you can cast a cheap creature, say Plaxmanta, and return the former. You get the idea.

I'd love to continue discussion on this deck, so absolutely feel free to ask/suggest anything, but I would also like to take a moment to thank everyone who has helped me with this build. I might fail in listing all of your names, but without your suggestions I might have never thought to use the following cards both currently and previously in my 75:

Bellowing Tanglewurm - Huge, unblockable armies are now my favorite win-con. - MagnaLynx21

Copperhorn Scout - I knew this card had some great and interesting interactions with other elves, but I feel bad for nay-saying her inclusion for so long. My eyes are now open. - MagnaLynx21, McChisel, others

Engulfing Slagwurm - This occasionally shows up in both sideboard and maindeck, depending on the state of the metagame at the time. - Ohthenoises

Naturalize - I was relying on Acidic Slime and Karn Liberated for my non-creature permanent smashing, but I underestimated how badly I'd need cheap, instant removal. Naturalize is often preferable to trying to power an ooze out with a 6-mana Green Sun's Zenith, especially when GSZs have so many other uses. - ItsAshcanPete, others

Phyrexian Metamorph - Kills legends, blocks Mirran Crusaders, is easy to cast and awesome. - OrgasmAndTea

Karn Liberated - Karn is my hero. Karn, Silver Golem *oversized* was the first legendary creature I ever owned, so he deserved to be in the deck for old time's sake anyway. - cartwheelnurd, OrgasmAndTea, nostalgia

Other sources of inspiration: various Glissa Rock deck skeletons (which are all vastly different but got my brain thinking), Todd Anderson's SCG Open Richmond Mono-Green Aggro (some recent inspiration, mostly for sideboard ideas), Solomon's Elvés Accelerati (Mono-Green), and zandl's standard-elves-believe-it (if I had known the latter existed, it would have saved me a little work, haha).

Dozens of other suggestions have been made, including such things as Genesis Wave, Primeval Titan, Beast Within, etc., and I am always switching things out and playtesting. So if you think this deck is lacking some amazing card, please let me know! This is why I like this site so much!

v0.9
