Making Progress
CorvusVonWolff, 7 years ago
I've trimmed a lot of the fat and just condensed the deck down to its bare essentials. I may have to rework that sideboard sometime in the near future. I also think the mana curve may pose a problem down the line

New: Bane of Progress, Rest in Peace Cut: Search for Tomorrow, Dig Through Time Since I'm slowing down my deck to fit the power level of my local meta, I wanted to start adding more cards that are extremely disruptive to certain strategies but don't advance my own game plan. Bane of Progress and Rest in Peace are both cards I've wished I had in my deck to deal with various shenanigans, and they both fit this description perfectly. In their places I cut Search for Tomorrow and Dig Through Time. Search for Tomorrow hasn't turned out to be as good of a ramp spell as I thought it would be; it comes down turn one but doesn't give me three mana on turn two, which is a pretty big drawback. Dig Through Time has also been less efficient than I anticipated, as the deck usually only has a few fetches in the graveyard unless there's been a board wipe. It's still very strong and it'll probably come back at some point, but I needed to make a snap cut to fit the new additions and I felt it was the most suitable choice.

Wharf Infiltrator
TheSurgeon, 7 years ago
Added Wharf Infiltrator to add counters to Skulker through the combat phase. I am dubious to its effectiveness as I feel, intuitively, that it's janking up the deck. But with 2 more abilities that aid this wincon, I hope I'm wrong. Playtesting will only tell.
Further input is appreciated!

Updates to several Packages.

rolling changes into main deck
LabManiac_Cameron, 7 years ago
I'm folding these theory crafting changes into the main deck here: https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/tasigur-seasons-past-season-pastigur/ I will not be updating this deck further as I was wanting to keep it separate for the testing which has been completed.

Added Heartstone

Added:
Heartstone cuts the cost to activate Mary's ability in half, as well as some of my changeling abilities, and Jalum Grifter. Split Screen, while excellent for card selection, is bad for tutoring.

Added missing Killbots

I don't actually want to wheel if I'm doing Mary O'Kill shenanigans, since most of the setup will be in my hand. And now that I've actually bought a box of Unstable, I've got a copy of each Killbot variant, and I've commissioned Blackwing Alters to turn my Killbots into Portal turrets. I might as well use all of them!

Explore & Greenwarden of Murasa
xdaft, 7 years ago
The explore mechanic seems to fit right in. Put 3 Ixalli's Diviner in the mainboard and 2 Merfolk Branchwalker in side. This allows me to put some card filtering and basic defense in the beginning of the game without losing cards. Forgot I had Greenwarden of Murasa to put some more creatures in and (hopefully) be able to stabilize after wipes.
Conversion to a more defined "Land" package
Philoctetes, 7 years ago
Over time I have tried to develop this deck to be a little unique from the community take on Sek'Kuar. That has entailed a concerted effort to combine the "combo" Sek'Kuar lists with the Rock Style lists. I believe the correct balance for that hybrid is to embrace the "Lands" package that plays well with both sides. As such, these inclusions say a lot mroe about the direction and my feelings about the deck than the cuts do. All the card I cut were difficult to choose. I have also finally fleshed out the card selection descriptions. Comments appreciated! +Demonic Tutor +Sylvan Library +Natural Balance +Courser of Kruphix +Omnath, Locus of Rage +Greenwarden of Murasa +Sylvan Safekeeper +Living Death +Sifter of Skulls +Sakura-Tribe Scout +Acidic Slime +Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth -Sylvan Scrying -Impact Tremors -Jolrael, Empress of Beasts -Horn of Greed -Beastmaster Ascension -Whisperwood Elemental -Yahenni, Undying Partisan -Dicatate of Erebos -Golgari Germination -Deathrite Shaman -Pyroblast -Forest

Currently testing out Nostalgic Dreams cutting Merchant Scroll for now. Recursion is very important and this card seems worth the slot. We will have to see.

A small change but a heart braking one Heartless Hidetsugu has been with this deck for a very long time. However it has been a while since I really played him and even back when I did it was mostly for laughs. I really like him as a card but he is to dangerous to me as I already play fast a loose with my life.
Harsh Mentor is in, cheap, fast and punishing as hell he is great value and efficient to play with Rakdos hitting the deck. That last point is really key, I'm looking to up the thing I can do if Rakdos can't hit the deck or stay there.
Also Lavaclaw Reaches is finally out, I never used its effect so the coming into play tapped was not worth it especially early game. Ancient Tomb tags in because its a powerful card.
So a small update but a key one I think as it show a key bit of understanding this deck. The hole point is Rakdos but as the same time I need things to do if he is countered so I can live long enough to get him on the board.

This deck is better than predicted...
Carmasem, 7 years ago
With the help of many comments and suggestions, toothless and I have won an amazing 93% of our games played with this deck (13-1). Of course this doesn't mean the deck is prefect; most of these games included at least one player who had never seen the deck before. However, this far exceeded any expectations and continues to be a fun project. Hopefully this can be an inspiration for anyone looking to make a janky deck!
