I started magic in a kitchen table format in the summer of 2007. Shortly after the Morningtide release I was introduced to Commander and found my home in magic. Eight-and-a-Half-Tails was in the first generation of decks I created and has stuck with me.

While I thoroughly enjoy commander I consistently ran into more and more situations where new play groups had vastly different play styles and power levels than what I was used to. In the summer of 2016 I found a large group of players playing competitive EDH. In this I found something that had been missing from most EDH game play I had run into. A solid base to judge decks power on.

Judging a power level of a deck is very subjective and doesn't transfer well between play groups. However Competitive EDH (cEDH) has a set goal and decks are all striving to achieve that goal in whatever play style they can. Everyone knows what they are signing up for at the start of a game.

When getting into cEDH I translated my preferred style of play into cEDH - Attrition Control and Tasigur Seasons Past / Season Pastigur was born. While it has gone through several iterations, it has solidified a spot in cEDH environment for control decks.

I also am the video content creator for the Laboratory Maniacs. We also have a subreddit where we actively curate cEDH content. We are active on the PlayEDH Discord and on /r/competitiveEDH. Additionally our content is being posted on the TappedOut main page.

l0stwald0 - as this deck isn't really looking to go infinite through card draw and twister loops, a good piece of card draw would do in this instance. Manifold Insights works or Fact or Fiction would fill that spot fairly nicely.

Doveyy - WisdomComes really did answer the question. Narsets reversal not only is a tempo, play it can also get around uncounterable things like Abrupt Decay. Stop their Abrupt Decay on your permanent, hit someone else's.

Ali3nVpr - If Tasigur is stolen or cannot activate his ability due to something like Cursed Totem , then Seasons Past can fill that same role.

Hissp - You could run Mana Crypt or Vault. However, we are mainly planing on the long game, and want our artifact mana to be indestructible or to lead us to lands. 8.5 tails gives us stack interaction with our permanents. We can blank all targeted removal with holding up mana and are able to either get damage through with giving creatures protection from white and making blockers white, or we can keep blockers back that are protection walls. It is one of the more interactive mono white commanders possible.

Aladdin I got my changes posted. Search is just better on our gameplan than Chains was. Chains is amazing, but it also massively warps the meta and a few decks can get around it just as well, if not better than us, Gitrog being one of them. Narset just stops them in their tracks.

Papaglock21 - yeah that is what I am testing now.

atlimar - taking out freed from the real make no sense when you are adding in incubation druid. i'm on the fence about baelful strix. I've been considering a flying blocker but I'm more inclined to just run Yahenni's Expertise as it takes care of any fliers that may come at me. In the same vein what is Damnation killing that Languish wouldn't? The big thing is that Tasigur stays around. Dropping Vampiric Tutor is a pretty bad call. It is one of the stronger tutors out there. Narset's Reversal is swapping out for Stubborn Denial for me, Narset is most likely swapping out for Chains. If you are also on EEvolve, there is almost no reason to not have the Razaketh package in there with Isochron scepter. You are splitting packages in half and not getting the best part of either. I'd reconsider those changes.

shredz - its not good. Flash + hulk should win you the game with no other cards in your hand.

Dango - thanks for pointing people to the discord. I do it regularly enough and I appreciate the assistance.

Jt5525e10 - It isn't good enough. Gilded Drake is just better. The fact that you have to wait multiple turns makes it not worth while.

resoluteorb566 - Seasons past is used to loop if Tasigur is not available. Additionally it is essentially draw the 4-6 strongest cards that you have cast this game. It is a mid to late game finisher.

Papaglock21 - Bolas's Citadell is more like a Future Sight than an Ad Nauseam. For the control game, we would be using it for the mana advantage that it provides.

zacksmith1224 - Yes.

nn2112 - it really depends on what your current collection is. If you have a good mana base, then looking at a Paradox Scepter Thrasios deck is probably the best start. It gets you into the main colors, gets you a very solid game plan and gets you into one of the most consistent decks out there. If you don't really have a solid collection, take a look at Dan's budget series here: https://www.reddit.com/r/LabManiacs/comments/63y1qx/budget_deck_series_collection/

Said on 4c Divergent Fblthp...

paulrafael7 - assemble infinite mana with a Fblthp stack as listed in the description, draw your deck with Thrasios, and win with some out. Vial + Nexus is a solid one. Copy Artifact as a scepter and imprint assassin's trophy or winds of rebuke, destroy all your opponent's permanents or bounce one of your own mana rocks, mill everyone for two, then recast it, repeat until everyone is milled out and then pass the turn. If copy artifact is not available you can loop any spell in the deck via memory's journey and regrowth/noxious revival. You can then draw them all again with Thrasios and just cast them any number of times. An example here is cast an instant, swan song the instant, get a 2/2 bird. repeat the recurssion loop to get both back. repeat this till you have infinite swan tokens. cast Nexus of Fate, go to your next turn and then attack everyone out.

May 8, 2019 2:32 p.m.

SMASHER101 - it would require removing Ad Nauseam. If that happens, then yes. But currently I don't see that happening right now in my list. If you list is not running Ad Nauseam, then it would be possible.

synze What i'm currently testing....
Bolas's Citadel for either Ad Naus or Seasons Past
Ashiok for either counterbalance or shadow of doubt
Narset for Dark Confidant or Yawgwill or Praetor's Grasp or Chains of Meph
Narset's Reversal for Stubborn Denial

I am also considering if we want to look at flyers to stop some of the chip damage that we experience in long games. From Aven Mind Censors, Swan Song tokens and our own Gilded Drakes coming home to roost. The big considerations in that line are Baleful Strix, Smuggler's Copter and Stinkweed Imp. We can't really move forward with that unless we really start seeing more combat and more time playing with the walkers. Additionally this could just be Yahenni's Expertise.

Narset's Reversal is on par with Counterspell in regards to its usefullness and utility. The card is amazing and is probably one of the best cards for cEDH in a long time.

lmsmq- If Tasigur is stolen or cannot activate his ability due to something like Cursed Totem , then Seasons Past can fill that same role.

skaterajfst - Ashiok and Narset are both looking at slotting in. I'm working on the cuts now.

atlimar - Palinchron just assumes that you have 7 mana amongst lands. That has to be VERY far into late game. The big benefit with dramatic scepter is that it can go off quite a bit faster and also utilizes the ramp that we run to go off. Our acceleration then turns into a win con. Letting those early turns of ramping and interaction turn into combo prep all at the same time. Most people are off of the EEvolve lines, if they are in a heavy flash hulk meta. It just is too slow. If your new meta isn't already on flash, then palinchron can probably work out. If it moves straight to flash, you will probably be too slow.
