Sweet-baby Prerelease

Wow, this set is a lot of fun.

We've had a little under 100 people (~97?) and as predicted, Abzan was the clan of choice by a lot of players, as it was sold out after the first ten minutes.

I picked Temur and made everyone hate me and my pool. The deck basically build itself, but one of my opponents told me, that my deck was really predictable in terms of the morph creatures and I had to agree.

(that's the deck, I went 5-2, as always... Klick )

I will now mention some of the (new) cards, that I think are very good:

Icefeather Aven - Angrybird is pretty bazookas, nuff said. Protip: Don't force yourself to morph it, if you already have a hand full of other morph creatures. Often times, it can attack for a lot of damage undisturbed.

Crater's Claws - This card is insane and won me more games than Sarkhan. It's absolutely disgusting to kill someone at 10 with eight lands and a banner. Slam this over a foil mythic, no kidding.

Mardu Warshrieker - Amazing hill giant is amazing. Play it in every limited red deck ever. Playing this into a morph is soooo efficient and puts you really far ahead on board. The 3/3 body does surprisingly do a lot of work.

Treasure Cruise - It's fine, if it is your only delve card in a non-selfmill deck. I almost always cast this for 5 mana, without any aggressive trading in combat. It's okay, don't let people tell you otherwise.

A card that I really wished to see, was Woolly Loxodon . I think that's one of the best common morph cards and will be as good in limited, as Nessian Asp was.

The Jeskai decks underperformed today, but I think that changes in draft. The same way, I see Abzan going down in that format.

My prerelease was different, Mardu was the first to sell out. I went Abzan, but had terrible mana fixing, so I ended up punting a few games. I went 2-1 (they have mercy on the midnight releases, not making us play the 6 rounds we should have). The one loss was extremely close, in a game where I had the winning board state, yet he had a flyer and Become Immense .

Abzan was very strong with a good early board state, however very bad when you are playing from behind. You need an aggressive start, in order to live long enough to win. Or have lifelink, which allows you to take hits while you set up for a very dumb board state

Meandering Towershell , the guy is a real thing. I saw him beat down so many matches. Never faced him. We had a guy rage quit when someone hit his turtle with Act of Aggression to steal him permanently. So brutal

My pull was utter crap. Went Temur, and It wasn't good. I actually went Mardu for my actual deck for the simple fact I pulled Butcher of the Horde . Sad. 1-2 drop.

I did mine at a small store, so I was the only person playing Jeskai (combat tricks and crap like that). Out of 6 picks (including the seeded), I got 5 rares, 1 of which I could play (my promo wasn't playable - Master of Pearls ). One of my packs didn't have a rare so that was pretty retarded. Essentially I just made aggro flyers and got 4th. My packs weren't much better than my prerelease: no foils (except 1 basic), no fetchs, no money cards, and my only mythic was a Hooded Hydra .

Your deck... what the hell. I wish I was that fortunate when I play limited.

Yeah, I got pretty lucky this time. When I won a game, in which I was 29 lifepoints behind, because of Sarkhan, I felt like a giant prick.

I didn't deserve that. Not at all.

Master of Pearls unplayable? It's a grizzly bear with upside.

Also, that morph ability is insane.

I got fourth place with a meh pool. I opened a Pearl Lake Ancient probably the crappiest mythic ever. I opened no fetches. I went 4-1 and my loss was to this dude who had a sorin, a Bloodstained Mire , a Butcher of the Horde , a foil Ashcloud Phoenix , and an Utter End .

I don't doubt it's a good card, but Master of Pearls never showed up to make any significant impact (if he showed up at all)

Pearl Lake Ancient... I'm still laughing at that card (and Wizards), ever since I heard it's story on the magic show.

Just finished mine, 3-1. We had 40-50 players, I went Jeskai. My shop hands the packs out at random so there's no sellouts or disproportionate amount of one pack, your allowed to trade packs with others to get what you want. It works out well, Jeskai was one of the two I preferred.

My promo was Deflecting Palm . It was a sideboard card but won me a game the one game I brought it in. Got Jeskai Ascendancy , Master of Pearls , and Sage of the Inward Eye as playable rares from the boosters. I played against Madru, Abzan, Temur, and Jeskai. I lost to Madru and I think it had the best matchup against me as it's a more direct aggro approach. I flew over and attacked through the other decks early and tempo'd the midrange decks out of the race. Jeskai Charm was great, all 3 modes were useful. Jeskai Ascendancy was okay, it carried me one game to a victory. Alabaster Kirin and Jeskai Windscout were all-stars and I had 2 of each. They put the pressure on early and could get in there late. Cancel seemed to nab something good and was a difference maker. I think it's good in this limited format. Waterwhirl is a whopper against Abzan decks, punishes Outlast very hard.

My seeded rare was an intro pack rare. 4 of my 5 boosters contained the other four intro pack rares...

I played Sultai and came 7th. I was sitting in 2nd place for a while and then dropped way down due to how the computer ranks you. (I think its a confusing bunch of BS)

At my prerelease Temur won and Sultai came second and Jeskai came third. No Mardu or Abzan decks could keep up with my Delve and removal.

Last prerelease I got last place. This one went differently.

I went abzan, pulled Anafenza and two Bloodsoaked Champion s all from my boosters, got 3 Kill Shot s and 2 Suspension Field s, first strike outlast dude, 2 deathtouch outlast dudes, the flying outlast dude, 2 Mardu Skullhunter s, and much more. Abzan Guide was MVP of the night and is a force to be reckoned with, FYI.

I went 4-1 only losing any games to the guy who got in first place (he went mardu and got insane pulls including the new Sorin).

I got second place and won 13 packs. In my packs I pulled the following notable cards:

Polluted Delta , Flooded Strand , 1 of each of the charms, Utter End , 2x Crackling Doom , Temur Ascendancy , Abzan Ascendancy , Butcher of the Horde , Mantis Rider and even a sorin emblem (up for trade, btw).

I ended up with 100+ dollars worth of tradable cards...it was absolutely insane. Then I went out and got some food and drinks to celebrate. Twas a night to remember.

I just got home from my pre-release. I chose abzan and got a decent pull with Anafenza, a bunch of deathtouch creatures, and some outlasters but it wasn't fantastic. There were 29 people so it was five rounds. I went 4-0-1, the tie coming in the last round against the only other undefeated player, and with better tiebreakers I got first place, which got me 24 packs, so it was a great day.

I went yesterday and played with 40 other people. I played Abzan, my best cards being Anafenza, the Foremost , Abzan Guide which was a powerhouse, Murderous Cut , and 2 Abzan Falconer s. Almost everyone else was playing Mardu. I played all Mardu decks aside from 1 Temur deck and 1 Abzan deck. We had 6 rounds before the top 8 which I made and then I split first place. I won a booster box which I have yet to open. My friend and I ordered a pizza during the top 8 and my opponent gave me an Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver for one slice. Dragonscale Boon played incredibly for me, especially with outlast. That card gave me so many favorable blocks and it was the best with Abzan Guide . It was a sweet prerelease.

I'm really glad you folks had fun playing with magical cards.

I remember being really skeptic about morph, since I disliked it from past sets. Now I have to correct myself; it's a lot of fun doing mindgames and being able to play cards even though one or even two colors refuse to show up.

What a great set, can't wait to draft it.

Kinda sad that I got fourth out of fiddy and I only got 6 packs. I pulled no fetches. I got a Surrak Dragonclaw , a Sultai Ascendancy and everything else was crap. :(

I came in second, out of 8 people lol. I had the shittiest sealed pool of all time for Jeskai.

Polluted Delta Windswept Heath Flying Crane Technique End Hostilities Empty the Pits and another junk rare not in my colors. Not that they were bad cards.. but goddamn no rares in my colors except for flying crane technique!! I ended up winning two of the three rounds. It was a sunday afternoon and only like 10 people showed.

I had a blast at my first pre-release. I had decided to do Friday @ midnight, and was expecting maybe 30 people. 102 competitors. No top 8, all prizes based on your record of 4 rounds. They had sold out Temur, Mardu, and Abzan before midnight, and Jeskai soon after. I had been dying to dig into Mardu, pulled a Zurgo promo, Herald of Anafenza, Meandering Towershell, Hooded Hydra, but no Butcher. Ran a nice Mardu stack with minimal red (would've loved a Crater's Claw), and popped in the Herald. He and Mardu Hateblade (I had 3) did a lot of work. Went 1 - 2 in 3 rounds (dropped out a little after 4 am, too tired), walked away with a prize pack, and picked up some intro decks. Definitely doing the next pre-release, and looking forward to drafting this set. Went home and pulled a Crackling Doom, 2 High Sentimels, and a Polluted Delta.
