Why should someone play boros? (need help creating a boros deck)

Hey, I'm new here. And one of my brothers told me that this site has a good community and that they could help me out with a deck idea I have. My 3 brothers and I like to play magic together. We have a lot fun With the new commander thingy but I would love to have a 2nd commander deck. Right now I use a Jeskai deck based on the Mystic Intellect commander deck and I win here and there by throwing a lot of spells around and wipe until there is nothing left. I would love to have a 2nd deck and use less spells but more tactics and creatures and I also loved Boros colores the most due to their non-elf, non-"tap a card and that card will never be useful again" and non-destroy everything cards featured in green, blue and black. Sadly I don't know why Boros should be a valid pick for commander or normal. Want to play dragons? Just play red. Want to play angels? Just play white. Want to draw cards and/or lands? Play green.

If someone could please tell me what Boros excels at and what to do with them best that would be great.

Also for commander. Red/White commanders I would like to use would be Iroas, God of Victory Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer Feather, the Redeemed and Firesong and Sunspeaker

My brother told me that I could include another color and black would be the only choice due to me already having a red/white/blue deck and one of my brothers is using red/white/green. The commander for that would be Licia, Sanguine Tribune and I would play a Vampire/Soldier tactic. Don't know how though.

First off, welcome to TappedOut!

Boros tends to be very combat focused in a format where aggro is relatively weak, and further suffers from a lack of tutors, ramp, and card draw, making it The worst multiplayer color combination.

That said, it can be fast and aggressive at a casual kitchen table, particularly one where the players are relatively new.

I am going to tag Suns_Champion, TappedOut’s resident Boros expert. If you check out their profile, you’ll see a bunch of different Boros decks you can use for inspiration.

If you want to play boros well in comannder your gonna need to get all the good red and artifact card draw effects. Luckily most of them aren't that expensive. Outpost Siege Mind's Eye Staff of Nin and Vance's Blasting Cannons  Flip are where I would start. Stolen Strategy is also a good optin

I would say play the three color commander, however it does not have to be a tribal deck.

Or you could do Grixis lol.

Firstly, I second on Caerwyn's suggestion.

Now, here's my own mustard:

From the commanders you mentioned, Feather, the Redeemed is the cheapest to build while still getting a powerful deck. She can just jam many cheap combat tricks that draw you cards, and from there on, you can go into many different directions. If you can identify with that playstyle, you should try her.

Welcome to T/O! Your brother is right-the community here is one of the best slices of the MTG internet space I've found!

Caerwyn is correct in everything they say. (Thanks for the tag!)

Boros excels at surprising people. I know that's not exactly the best space to be in, but the underdog factor can be huge. Boros is aggro at its best, but I'll admit I've focused on non-aggro commanders for the most part.

Of the choices you like, Iroas, God of Victory is the best to head an aggro list, in my opinion. But the Boros aggro commanders (like Aurelia or Jor Kadeen) are all pretty interchangeable, and most go in eachother's decks.

Feather, the Redeemed is a great option, for the reasons seshiro_of_the_orochi mentioned. I tried a token/sunforger list, I highly suggest trying Voltron with her though. She can be pretty linear and get boring however, because whatever way you builder her, you need a cantrip for the deck to work, and it gets repetitive.

Of the Boros Commanders you don't have listed, I like Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero the best. He can be built in many different ways (combo, aggro, ETBs, board wipe control), is a strong protection piece in the command zone, and is rather unassuming. Plus the art is gorgeous.

Here's all of my current Boros decks, if you're interested

Hopefully some of this is helpful for you. Let me know what else you're thinking and I can help!

Boros is usually I turn things sideways to advance my game. Attack early and often. Unfortunately unless you can keep the pressure up it can run out of steam. Ramp and card draw are issues you need to address in the deck building phase. Smothering Tithe is a good ramp option. Skullclamp is a good option if running a token theme or subtheme.

If you add black, I'd suggest Edgar Markov - it's a vampire themed deck that can get strong at casual tables even on a budget.

As far as boros goes, I use Iroas. I play it as a go wide token deck with Cathars' Crusade , Impact Tremors , and creatures that put token into play when attacking. I have an old list on here ( Hammer Time ), but its a 2 years old list and has seen many revisions to increase the token production like adding Goblin Rabblemaster and the new krenko to the deck. The deck is fun to me. But I love decks that can go wide or tall or both, with some combo potential thrown in.

Although neither my old list, nor my current one is budget, most of the token producers are lower value cards. If you want to go this way reach out and I can give ideas of cards to look at for the deck. I will try to update the deck sometime tomorrow to it's current configuration, as there are many new cards in there from recent sets like the flyer that produces soldiers when it attacks.

I think you would like Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero . Due to his ability, you can do some very cool things, if you're fond of wiping the board, but want to be more aggressive about it. He makes cards like Cataclysm , Razia's Purification , and Scourglass a lot of fun. If you were thinking Jor Kadeem, I've had a copy for a long time and have just never seen the potential, but Gerrard makes much better use of cards like Mishra's Bauble , Urza's Bauble , Ichor Wellspring , and Arcum's Astrolabe for insane card value, along with bigger stuff like Memory Jar and the above-mentioned Scourglass . I'm in the process of collecting cards for a Gerrard deck, and the angle I plan on taking him is Spitemare , Boros Reckoner , Lavabelly Sliver , Truefire Captain , Mogg Fanatic Coalhauler Swine , and Creepy Doll with mass damage effects like Star of Extinction and Blasphemous Act . Throw in some redirection cards like Master Warcraft , Gideon's Sacrifice , Nomads en-Kor , Outrider en-Kor , Shaman en-Kor , and Warrior en-Kor , and you can build a deck that really does uniquely Boros things focused on mass destruction and direct damage.

Here's a rough draft of what I was thinking for a Gerrard kamikaze deck.

* Mogg Maniac , not Mogg Fanatic . Only so many clever ways to name goblins.

And Spiteful Sliver , not Lavabelly Sliver . See "only so many" comment above.

Thanks for all the help and card idea for a boros deck. Especially big thanks to pskinn01 Suns_Champion Caerwyn triproberts12 As a update on my planned boros deck... It's now a mardu deck with vampires and soldiers. But as mentioned above. My brothers told me to add a 3rd color. You can see it here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/09-01-20-vampire-legion/?cb=1578612787 My try to use a Slug: Vampire Legion Nonetheless I still want to make my own Boros deck and so I watched some people play commander. The feather gameplay was boring and effective but that's not really what I'm looking for when playing to have fun with friends/brothers. I have Gerrard flying around at home and your are right about his potential. I think a mix of creatures and artifacts could work really well because he will get me my creatures back on the field and the artifact will stey there after a wipe. The equipment will slow everything down but my 3 brothers play Sultai-morph, jund-Mayael the Anima and rakdos-rakdos so my speed should be fast enough. I think. Thanks again for the help and I'm glad that this community is as nice as my brother said it is.
