Birthing of the Genesis Elves (Clean sweep @ FNM)

Modern* Aggro Combo Elves GU (Simic) Toolbox

Sideboard

Not your average pod deck.

The Deck Mechanics:

With support from Llanowar Elves, Viridian Emissary and Phyrexian Metamorph the deck very consistently ramps out with Elvish Archdruid. Such consistency is compounded by tutoring from Green Sun's Zenith and Birthing Pod.

Now all that mana has to go somewhere, the best options are through Birthing Pod or Genesis Wave.

Birthing Pod can be used to tutor Ezuri, Renegade Leader/Molten-Tail Masticore/Primeval Titan and Agrro ftw. The deck is geared for tutoring with Birthing Pod with the creature mana curve giving resilience and synergy within things like Viridian Emissary , Thragtusk etc

Genesis Wave can usually be cast for x=8-13 (pretty easy by turn 4-5 with elf ramp), which does three things:-

  1. It gets you more mana in the form of lands and hasted Elvish Archdruids etc.

  2. The ability to use that mana in the form of an Aggro strategy (as above) or casting another Genesis Wave through Snapcaster Mage & repeat until you win with Laboratory Maniac.

  3. Consistency, through either drawing with Garruk, Primal Hunter or tutoring with Birthing Pod (its pretty hard to not be consistent when half the deck is out lol).

It sounds kinda complicated and its hard to explain the combo but if I resolve a Genesis Wave its often game that turn.

On Phyrexian Metamorph, apart from obviously having the capacity to become opposition fatties, it adds a great deal of consistency and flexibility to the deck. Most of the time it simply becomes Elvish Archdruid however the ability to become Birthing Pod, Snapcaster Mage, Primeval Titan or more utility when I need it is nice. Also if you need a little more mana and you have Swiftfoot Boots, you can always pod an Elvish Archdruid to get another archdruid.

The sideboard:

A Great thing about pod decks is the range of options in the sideboard. I can easily run 1 copy of an important card and tutor it out whenever I need it and then make extra copies as I need them with the pherexian Metamorph.

Sideboard includes, Kessig Cagebreakers vs board wipes, Stingerfling Spider /Silklash Spider vs fliers, +1 Ezuri, Renegade Leader & inkmotth nexus vs solar flare/control or whenever I need more Agrro, Massacre Wurm, Stonehorn Dignitary & Tree of Redemption (with support forom Somberwald Sage)vs quick Aggro/weenie, Melira, Sylvok Outcast vs infect, Spellskite vs wolf run, heavy removal or things like pump infect, Phyrexian Revoker/+1Acidic Slime/ Brutalizer Exarch /Beguiler of Wills for locking down certian decks & removal.

Matchups:

The decks hardest matchups are with very fast aggro decks but even then it goes at least 50/50 with them (when I get my combo off).

In my old meta, it has performed well in FNM and casual games against Goblins, ELVES!!!, White Weenie & Control, Blue Mill, U/B control a Leonin Relic-Warder/Phyrexian Metamorph deck, Grand Architect, Werewolves, Vamps, Eldrazi, Green stompy.

Just finished my first FNM(extended) at the new shop (came 2nd), I won against humans, pseudo caw-blade wennie deck, black/white human vamp deck, lost aginst a very good vamp deck.

I played the deck in a larger tournament and got pretty hammered due to mana issues (came close to last), I came up against lots of best friends decks, a wolf-run deck, a b/g infect deck, and a delver deck.

Played at the shop. Ranked about halfway. The deck is not quite performing. I may have a re-think.

Played another FNM at the shop, came 3rd. Lost vs naya pod wins were with u/w spirits, delver and esper/control.

Ranked about halfway at FNM, lost against bestfriends and delver won against w/u wheenie tempo and a r/b controlish deck with blood artist.

Just WON FNM!! Against spirits, u/b control/mill, life-gain/weenie and the same pod deck that I lost to two FNM's ago.

Won every game & match at FNM (came 2nd due to the match point system thing). Played against w/g aggro, u/w control, w/g aggro, w/b tokens :-).

FNM came 4th; 2-1 vs white aggro, 0-2 vs Kuldotha Goblins (guy came 1st), 2-0 vs b/w exalted, 2-0 vs w/g aggro.

FNM came 1st with a clean sweep for the very last standard FNM!; 2-0 vs w/g Agrro, 2-0 vs w/b weenie/token, 2-0 vs w/g Agrro, 2-0 vs Zombies. What an awesome way to finish off :-)

Thanks to all those who have helped and please share some comments and suggestions if you have any (Ill try to send some useful suggestions back:-)).

I will be modifying the deck for modern in the coming months, stay tuned!

Updates Add

The deck has evolved drastically since its creation, hence I thought id clear the clutter in the discussion. The latest list has been performing very well at FNM. Any suggestions or questions would be awesome, Thanks.
