I love this deck, it plays really well and is pretty cheap to boot! One of the biggest problems with Mill is that there is no real way around Leyline of Sanctity. that said, Mesmeric Orb and Chronic Flooding can get there. I'd consider adding Manic Scribe as another way to get around that.

sideboard:

also not super sure about spiral, it just costs too much. that said phantasm is really good.

Great SB suggestions! Those will be put in forthwith!

I agree that Psychic Spiral is too expensive. It was more of a last-minute cram-in-there card for giggles and a space filler while I mull over the possibilities of this deck in its prototype phase.

I'll playtest Manic Scribe, and see how it fares in this setting (I don't generally care for the card). I can always use more chump blockers and passive mill.

Thanks a ton for the advice, bro!

Mishra's Bauble can give you item as to when to kill and help get delirium, Remand is a more tempo based counter that could suit your deck better, and if they're in your budget pick up some fetches for Crab. Cool deck though, I like exploring mono blue as opposed to dimir.

I do like Remand over Spell Pierce and fits the curve better as I shouldn't cast a counter until I have either Orb or Chronic Flooding on the board.

Mishra's Bauble is neat for 0, but seems to take away from the archetype of the deck. Knowing what I'm going to mill won't stop me from milling it.

Thanks for the kinds words and advice!

Here's a crazy idea, Cryptic Command + Mesmeric Orb. Counter a spell and then force the opponent to tap every creature. That untap phase is going to hurt, especially if you follow up with Mind Sculpt.

@SlimJim83- Love.it! It'll only be a 2 copy, as all of its effects are mid-late game beneficial. Not to mention the price..

Was also thinking about Stubborn Denial works with the deck archetype, and hard-counters with the alt-wincon Jace's Phantasm.

Thoughts?

That's a good deal right there, it ought to be easy to get ferocious with Jace's Phantasm. That creature is such a beast in mill decks, I love it.

By the way, I think this is my favorite modern mill build I've seen. It's affordable, efficient, and down right hilarious. This ought to get some tables flipped for sure.

Thanks! That means a lot. It's hard to impress in mill.

Shelldock Isle: is a nice card if u still will run your Psychic Spiral.for the maybe board i got Trapmaker's Snare and Thought Scour. for the sideboard i got Tormod's Crypt : Kiora's Dismissal and maybe Fog Bank

Mermaidsheep- Shelldock Isle is a nice card, and I used to run it in my Esper Salt Mill as a wincon with Haunting Echoes, but I would only run one Spiral in this anyhow, making the odds of hitting it with hideaway slim.

As for Thought Scour, it offers draw and works with the archetype of the deck, but would be better suited for a deck running Jace's Erasure/Sphinx's Tutelage.

Fog Bank is one of my favorite blockers, Im unsure of why I didn't put it in here sooner.

Kiora's Dismissal is handy, but I would probably go with Downpour or Gigadrowse. that way, they lose a combat phase and then it buys me a turn to get out more Mesmeric Orbs if possible. But your suggestion sparked those ideas, so thank you for your help!

Play hard, friends!

Have you thought about Sanity Grinding?

loozar33- THAT'S HILARIOUS! I'm definitely building one around that card this evening! I'll work it in here in the next version or two
1. I don't have any
2. I'm unfinished testing this version

Thanks for that! I was unaware of it until now, perfect for a mono U mill.

I think so amount of universal draw effects could be useful, such as Howling Mine or Jace Beleren. It would give the deck more gas while also forcing your opponent to draw cards.

beardie88 says... #15

also Surgical Extraction could be a powerful mainboard option that can take away the most important cards from their deck that you have milled as well as reducing the cards in their deck at instant speed.

April 3, 2017 5:23 p.m.

TheSurgeon says... #16

beardie88- I don't like Howling Mine because I don't like giving my opponent resources. Jace Beleren is a nice utility card, but won't ultimately win the game for me. I would probably place in Thought Scour over either one.

Surgical Extraction is a card I'm VERY familiar with. It was an idea since I first conceived this deck, but I'm having a hard time working them in here, and wanted to base test it at pure offense for speed before adding any outside checks for problematic cards. Great minds think alike!! It'll probably show up in the SB to begin with and move to the MB at some point.

Thanks for the feedback and please throw me an Upvote while you're here!

Cheers!

Psychic Spiral could be good with Mesmeric Orb, but I think, it's too late and too less consistent.

Another idea: Dreamborn Muse

April 3, 2017 11:59 p.m.

TheSurgeon says... #20

Cadoiz- Thanks for the feedback. I'm already milling myself with Mesmeric Orb there's no way I'm adding Dreamborn Muse when i have a draw mechanic and I'm waiting with cards in hand to counter.

Check out my homepage if you have any questions about mill.

Necrisev- Retreat is too expensive. I would like to keep this <2. I like Grimoire Thief. In fact, I've been searching for this card for a friend's Merfolk deck but couldn't remember anything about it. :-P

I'll keep this under consideration, but have no immediate plans to push them in here just yet.

Thanks for the feedback!

Snapcaster Mage to help flash back the things you mill yourself with Mesmeric Orb

April 4, 2017 6:20 p.m.

TheSurgeon says... #25

AzrielBarakiel- These would be handy, but where to put them?

I'm trying to keep this deck more budget. For a couple reasons:
1. I only own about 90% of the cards and it would require tearing apart my favorite Esper Salt Mill. I'm failing as it evolves. :-P
2. This deck isn't nearly competitive enough to drop $100 into.. Yet.

Thank you for the input, this is a suggestion that will not be taken lightly in the future.
