Noetic Scales Discussion

Vlasiax Very nice Deck and also nice overview of all defenders. Wall of Shards is a nice beater but I don't like his upkeep since I don't want to have my opponents to gain life. I know it wouldn't be that much in a multiplayer game or have a big impact but it could be the one life you are missing to remove from them later (besides it's not just one life cummulative upkeep goes up every turn).

Fun Fact, I've never drawn into Wall of Kelp. I also think it's a very bad card and could be replaced by a far better defenedr, but people here wanted me to try it and so I put it back in the deck. I have absolutely no idea how it performs. Heroic Intervention will probably be added in the future.

thcue thank you for your suggestion, but I probably go with Noetic Scales, since I mostly have around 3-4 cards in my hand.

Mitrian Very nice list! I'm happy that you're successful with it! I made the same experience like you did, it performs very well even against high Tier decks and is a noteable competitor. Sure, your deck offer some more wincons than just beating down the opponents, but I haven't noticed any downsides yet. As you said, it all depends on the own meta :)

I'm glad to hear that about Trostani, I'm probably thinking too much and I almost run the same lands as you. Shouldn't be that hard to cast.

Mentor of the Meek is a cool card, but I'm not too sold on it yet since there is a lot of creature hate in our group and less artifact hate. On the other hand our M19 draft is still due, maybe we'll pull him.

Meekstone is good and I'll probably add it in the future, but at this time there are a lot of token decks with 1/1 and 2/2 tokens in our group making it useless. I put my eyes on Noetic Scales but haven't gotten a copy yet.

As you said Solidarity has a real high cmc but I have to admit I wasn't aware of this card. I will atleast buy one, maybe I'll add it some day.

Thanks again for your comments and I'm glad I have given you some ideas. I wish you all the best with your own Arcades list :)

Looking good! If you wanted some more (mostly) one-sided board wipes, you could consider Austere Command, Dusk and Slaughter the Strong. You can even deal with larger creatures on a somewhat permanent basis via Meekstone, Noetic Scales or Marble Titan. Ensnaring Bridge is probably the best at what it does, but it's hella expensive.

You could also get some more card draw from Abzan Beastmaster and/or Ulvenwald Observer, in case Arcades wasn't always enough. Reveillark would also be interesting since it can bring back basically any two creatures in the deck!

And by the way, are you sure Shield Wall is good enough? You might get more use, certainly in the long run, with Spidersilk Armor or even Ensouled Scimitar, which can increase a creature's damage capability by 5 or functionally be a 5/5 flyer itself!

You're right, Aluren is a card that needs the deck to be built around it, but it's really powerful if you do, since you can cast walls for free and draw more walls to cast for free with Arcades.

My suggested cut would probably be Venser's Journal for Noetic Scales, since you'd be casting most of the creatures you draw rather than keeping them in hand, and with your walls and vigilance you shouldn't need the lifegain.

Thanks! Aggro and Control are definitely things that you don't see together too often.

Noetic Scales could be good against decks that dump their hands, and like you said, my walls would be safe. Stoic Angel and Derevi might be good for some more control, I'll have to think about them.

Aluren would be good, my walls have low cmc and come in powerful. I also wouldn't have to worry about completely running out of resources because of Arcades. Vizier of the Menagerie could help, I'll think about it.

I'm not really sure about Door of Destinies, Kindred Discovery, and Descendants' Path. With door I'm worried about boosting so much that I still die to my board wipes, I feel like I have enough card draw without Kindred Discovery, I also worry about burying spells I might need with Descendants' Path.

Archangel of Strife is a good idea, with "peace" mode my walls essentially get +3/+3. Angelic Skirmisher is good too; I can enable vigilance if I don't have it, or give my walls some other advantages.

Thanks for the suggestions! If you have any idea what cuts I could make to include from my maybe board then go ahead and suggest them.

Your deck looks pretty good for aggro-control.

Noetic Scales should be really strong since your creatures won't get bounced due to their low power and your card draw, while you totally disrupt opponents. Stoic Angel and Derevi, Empyrial Tactician can help you pursue a stax strategy.

Aluren is really powerful since most of your walls have low CMC, whereas you aren't worried about low CMC creatures your opponents might have.

Vizier of the Menagerie could help you cycle through your deck really fast.

Some tribal cards like Door of Destinies, Kindred Discovery, and Descendants' Path could be helpful.

Maybe Archangel of Strife and Angelic Skirmisher could be useful.

You should switch Quest for the Nihil Stone for The Rack. If you test, you'll see it's not that easy to get those quest counters. The best creature for this deck is Nyxathid. No arguments there.

You should sideboard Disenchant or something to get rid of enchantments and artifacts and add some creature and board removal.

For me, the useless cards are Dream Salvage, Noetic Scales and Asylum Visitor. They just don't match with the deck strategy.

What you can add is Funeral Charm, Inquisition of Kozilek and Hero's Downfall.

Anyway, hope I helped.
