Tomorrow, official spoilers for Modern Masters 2015 begin! So far we have officially spoiled:
- Tarmogoyf
- Karn Liberated
- Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
- Etched Champion
- Splinter Twin
- Spellskite
- Vendilion Clique
Remember you can find spoilers at mythicspoiler.com, mtgsalvation.com, and at wizards homepage.
This is a different environment to then. Different expectations now. Wizards have stated the reserve list was a mistake. They have stated that they value access over collections. They have reprinted staples and crashed some prices before. Things have changed.
Rayenous - you are right there will be overlap between those that want staples and those that want to draft. If there were two products those guys would have to spend more.

The new art on Wildfire is pretty cool, but the card is not that good
May 6, 2015 10:01 a.m.
I've actually been looking into Explore + Atarka's Command + Wildfire... this reprint comes with interesting timing.
May 6, 2015 10:03 a.m.
And another bulk-rare. I'm getting less and less excited to crack some packs...

Putrefy That is like the only bulk rare so far though. The set cant be all value anyways or the prices would rocket up even further.
May 6, 2015 10:45 a.m.
Putrefy - Yeah, I realized that after I checked old printings of it. It's originally from Portal .
May 6, 2015 10:46 a.m.
....and yet the foils were $10 - $25.
EDH players are getting some love...?
This is the first time this art will be in foil, and it will look much better than the 7th Edition art.

With Hikari, Twilight Guardian and Ghost Council of Orzhova being spoiled along with a couple of spirits... Is it safe to guess that
is Spirits for drafting?
May 6, 2015 10:53 a.m.
Skulloelegy - THose were spoiled in Marshall's article today, and he talked about two draft archetypes, Spirits and
Tokens.

ChiefBell: wizards did design a set that was mainly for drafting. it was called conspiracy and i don't think it sold very well.
if they designed a set to be solely for constructed playable reprints, then people would accuse them of basically printing money and pure greed.
i believe wizards does care about the secondary market, in that they are being pulled in opposite directions with reprints. they care about collectors who want cards to retain value, and also about getting as many players into as many formats as possible to keep selling product. the first mma seemed like it was a big success, so i don't fault them for trying a similar formula.
i don't personally relish the opportunity to open a $10 pack with an All Suns' Dawn in it, but based on the pre-registration for GP Vegas, i'm thinking i might not be the target audience for the product. i'll just wait and hope some staples drop in price and i can trade for them.
May 6, 2015 11 a.m.
Did conspiracy not do well? Everyone around me absolutely loved it. I don't have any overall figures though.
May 6, 2015 11:02 a.m.
My LGS still have left over boxes of Conspiracy.
I think it did well enough, but not as well as Wizards expected... they printed too much of it.
May 6, 2015 11:07 a.m.
Yeh. There is a difference though between 'printed too much' and 'didn't do well'. Unfortunately we cannot actually compare sales of different boxes, can we?
May 6, 2015 11:09 a.m.
The thing with Conspiracy is that being draft only, and having so few constructed playables, people would only buy when they were drafting, and even then often opted for a box of something in Standard.
With something like Modern Masters, people would buy boxes to draft, but also to play the "pack-crack" lottery.
May 6, 2015 11:14 a.m.
i might be mistaken, but i thought i had read that sales weren't great. my friends and i loved it as well, but after playing it once or twice there wasn't much incentive to keep buying product.
the issue is that why would people buy product that can't really be reused? cubing is the best way to play, for sure, but a cube designer only needs to buy each card once, and can edit the set over and over to keep things fresh. drafting normal sets is fun, but by the end of a few months the format gets stale, the cards get old and archetypes are well known. at least cracking boosters in draft can potentially give you some value for other formats/trades.
May 6, 2015 11:16 a.m.
it's possible that i confused "printed too much" with "wasn't successful." either way, i think the rest of my post was valid.
sorry to help derail the thread though, yay modern reprints!
May 6, 2015 11:19 a.m.
Didn't Wizards say that Conspiracy was NOT going to be a limited print run, that they would continue to print it so long as there was demand?
May 6, 2015 11:23 a.m.
meecht is correct. Conspiracy was a "we'll print as much as there is demand" product. That said, I wonder when they stopped printing Conspiracy or if they have stopped printing it.

More things I've noticed with my read-the-card's-set-number endeavors:
There are three lands between the recently spoiled Blinkmoth Nexus and Eldrazi Temple.
There is a multicolored card between Ghost Council of Orzhova and Horde of Notions.
There are two multicolored cards between Shadowmage Infiltrator and Swans of Bryn Argoll.
What might fill these slots that are staples?
May 6, 2015 11:36 a.m.
Oh, and two artifacts between Cranial Plating and Etched Champion.
May 6, 2015 11:37 a.m.
Ha! I love that Scion of the Wild got downshifted from rare to common. Actually, it might do well in my Kamahl, Fist of Krosa EDH...
I pre-ordered 2 boxes. I'm definitely drafting one of them for the experience but should I sit on the second one indefinitely to sell a decade down the road?
May 6, 2015 11:50 a.m.
This is making me quite happy. So, today added:
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker (Okay, I was NOT expecting this one.)
Scion of the Wild (btw that is one serious rarity shift)
We also confirmed 2 new themes:
GW Tokens
WB Spirits
Gonna post this stuff on my stats page now. I've got a lot to cover.
May 6, 2015 11:51 a.m.
JWiley129 That's fun. Now we might be seeing Tezz, based on the MTGO avatars a page or two back.
May 6, 2015 11:52 a.m.
If that's true, 6tennis, then there's probably only 2 mythics left to spoil after Tezz. Any thoughts on what they might be?
May 6, 2015 11:56 a.m.
Scion at common? That thing is a powerhouse in the G/B token deck. I suppose there might not be as many good fillers for that deck as some might want, so that is somewhat of a necessity.

It has everything I've ever used in magic the gathering I must buy a box...

Just need those instant reanimator cards boss ;) and I'll take as many as I can
May 6, 2015 12:09 p.m.
Scion of the Wild... a rare that is soon to be seen in pauper decks everywhere pauper is played!
May 6, 2015 12:15 p.m.
kameenook There's also apparently Tokens now.
Um, well, we THOUGHT Elesh Norn, and Bob and Tezz came from the same source. If we see GG, I think Elesh Norn will be in.
May 6, 2015 12:16 p.m.
Scion at common literally made me and my friend laugh out loud strictly because it's (for me at least) an old favorite card when we were starting out. And I was usually on the receiving end of scion beatings.
I guess I'm drafting GB tokens.
May 6, 2015 12:17 p.m.
Big thing to remember about the leak: It said we were getting Tezzeret the Seeker . BUT the MTGO avatar art is for Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas. So which (if) Tezzeret will we see? Mono-? Or
?
May 6, 2015 12:19 p.m.
TOKENS. PEOPLE. READ THE ARTICLE.
I mean, they're both still things, but TOKENS.
May 6, 2015 12:19 p.m.
I didn't realize the plurality of Tezzes. Good call. It'll probably be AoB, since Seeker already has a reprint.

It's the card they put in so you won't cry about your countless efforts at packing a tramogofy
May 6, 2015 12:20 p.m.
MisterMayhem: i looked up the multicolor cards. there's actually a lot between ghost council and horde. the best i could find (that may or may not actually see play in modern currently):
Glen Elendra Liege, Glimpse the Unthinkable, Glittering Wish, Godhead of Awe, Godsire, Grand Arbiter Augustine IV, Grave-Shell Scarab, Guttural Response, Harmonic Sliver, Hellkite Overlord. there's a lot more, and some of the commons/uncommons might fit the archetypes we don't know about yet.
between shadowmage and swans:
Sharuum the Hegemon, Shield of the Oversoul, Slippery Bogle, Souls of the Faultless(b/w spirits theme), Sphinx of the Steel Wind, Sphinx Summoner, Spitemare, Stillmoon Cavalier.
i don't see many format staples in there, so i'm guessing they will be commons/uncommons that fit the draft format archetypes, or generic "good" rares that people wouldn't mind picking up for casual or edh decks.
May 6, 2015 12:21 p.m.
6tennis - There is ALSO a Tokens+Sacrifice theme going around with Bloodthrone Vampire and Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder fueling that archetype with Creakwood Liege.
May 6, 2015 12:23 p.m.
I wonder if tokens will be powerful or if that'll clash too much.
May 6, 2015 12:24 p.m.
Oh, and for those trying to number-crunch, remember that gold cards and hybrid cards are listed separately so they don't get numbered together.
May 6, 2015 12:25 p.m.
It appears that Wizards has separated the 'Gold' cards from the 'Hybrid' cards.
Swans of Bryn Argoll appears to be number 199... leaving 12 spots between it and Shadowmage Infiltrator, including Creakwood Liege at 191, and Fulminator Mage at 193.

As an aside from out economics talk, here's the new art for Wildfire
