Sideboard

Updated Apr 3, 2014

Fairly standard but always testing a few new and fun cards like mainboard 3-mana counterspells (Counterflux), sweet X spells like White Sun's Zenith, Condescend, and Spell Burst. I think the current version has too many win-cons but I want them all there in order to get testing with them.

For card explanations, briefly, I love hard-counters in a deck that plans to go long (3 mana counters). I love instant speed finishers (white sun's zenith). I like a deck like that can literally lock the opponent out (spell burst, which is also just a reasonable counterspell after turn 4 or so). And condescend is just for testing, since it can be online as early as turn 2 and can stay a counterspell all game in some cases but always at least scries (not the best but is more than mana leak on turn 15).

Sideboard is built with pretty standard UWR cards, except seeing the zoo decks packing 10 to 16 burn spells, plus the occasional full discard deck or gifts deck, I feel like Leyline of Sanctity is really strong, and I feel like Celestial Purges are necessary against most liliana decks.

A list along these lines won Pro Tour Valencia recently, you should check that list out at http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/ptbng14/top_8_decks
