Rules Q&A
Quantum Riddler
Creature — Sphinx
Flying
When this enters, draw a card.
As long as you have one or fewer cards in hand, if you would draw one or more cards, you draw that many cards plus one instead.
Warp (You may cast this spell from your hand for the warp cost. Exile this at the beginning of the next end step, then you may cast this from exile on a later turn.)

Grixis Control

Good Morning,
I was playtesting a few hands with your deck the other day, and once I got the hang of it, it consistently beat one of mine I was working on. For snorts and giggles, I ran it up against Ravager cicra 2004 just to see what it would do.
vs. Ravager - Aeo Paquette, 2nd at Worlds 2004
Game 1: No mulligans. I'm keeping Island, Sewers, Stock Up, Thor, Flashback, and Reef. I'm a little concerned it's a slow hand for what I'm up against, and I'm on the draw. He opens with Seat of the Synod, Welding Jar, and Arcbound Worker. I draw a Resonating Lute and surveil, dropping Shoot the Sheriff because I need red more than I need to kill the regenerator. He swings for one, plays Glimmervoid, Arcbound Ravager, and Frogmite. I draw land, play the Reef, and take four to the face while he taps out for Cranial Plating. I could have Stocked Up instead, which would have left me tapped out instead of sitting on nothing while he drops a Disciple of the Vault, clobbers me for 13, and sacs me down to zero.
Game 2: I need as much fast defense as possible. I took out 2x Resonating Lute and the Deadly Cover-Up to make room for 2x Avengers Whateveritis and the Tidebender. On the play, I mulligan to 6 and keep a hand with Thundering Falls, 2x Flashback, Fire Magic, Quantum Riddler, and Thor. Turn 1, I surveil something that's not a land. He answers with Vault of Whispers, Ornithopter, Welding Jar, and Disciple of the Vault. I draw not a land and Fire his Disciple. Would have loved to take the 0/2 with it, but I can't have that bulls..t around. He answers with Seat of the Synod and Somber Hoverguard. I TD a Demolition Field and wait for some black so I can flashback a Requiting Hex. He answers my nothing with thee damage and a Glimmervoid, 2x Thoughtcast, and a Frogmite. I topdeck a Stock Up. I need a black. Or something so I can Stock up into something else. While I'm waiting, he drops Cranial Plating and attacks for 12, bring me to 5. My final draw is a Blazemire Verge, which I honestly belive is your deck's way of telling me to eff-off for putting it through that.

Grixis Counter Burn

I agree that modern is an efficient and cutthroat format but that still doesn't justify your position. So let's look at your examples and why they don't really make the point you want them to make.
Grixis reanimator runs roughly 4 discard spells and about 8 counters total (some main, some side) which are there to compliment the rest of the deck. You have double that and have made that your theme/core part of your deck and that's a gigantic difference. You can say grixis runs both because that's technically correct, but you are missing the point of why. Grixis is doing it to setup it's win in the early game and only needs 1-2 spells resolved to win. Your deck is trying to survive early and grind the opponent down slowly which does not line up with what modern is as a format.
Dimir midrange runs the same 4 discard package as grixis but can run closer to the 12-16 counters range which is still less that what you are running. Also take into consideration that Subtlety has an alternate casting cost to help double spell when needed. And wouldn't you know it, they also run things like TAMIYO, Psychic Frog, and Quantum Riddler to help refill their hand so that they have enough counters when needed. You don't have that luxury here. If you compare the creatures you have with dimir midrange's yours are greatly outclassed which is another big difference. Frog and riddler can both lead to convincing wins that your creatures could only dream of. If you look at the overall plan of dimir midrange, you might notice that it plays to the board a fair bit. Your deck is trying to prevent a board from forming which is not the same.
So at the end of the day, no, I'm not wrong about this. Your examples don't support your case. You're just fixed in your views and not willing to adapt. If you have comparable reasons on why you think I'm wrong, I'm open to hearing them. I have no problem being wrong, but I need a good reason why. The someone did it before so it's still ok isn't it.

I found a new card (new to me). 1 Card change here:
Pyre of Heroes. I am taking Engulf the Shore out.
Engulf the shore is cool blue board wipe no doubt, but we already have Evacuation and Cyclonic Rift and Spellseeker to fetch Cyclonic rift. With how many cards we are seeing I am willing to take out 1 of the wipes.
Pyre is insane because this list is pretty much already built to abuse it.
Pyre works with every creature pretty much:
- All 1 costs get my 2 cost changelings. 1 cost changelings get any 2 cost.
- 2 cost changelings get any 3 cost including Spellseeker, and phantasmal image can be made to get sphinxes.
- 3 cost changelings get any 4 cost. Spellseeker can get Master of Winds because they are both wizards. (This raises the value of master of winds AND Spellseeker.) And I have some bomb 4 costs, looking at Roaming Throne, Spark Double, Sakashima of a Thousand Faces.
- Interestingly, pyre isnt as strong with my 4 cost cards because I want them to stay on the field/ they will be copies of something else. And thats fine right because pyre has done its job? So Defiler of Dreams is the single 5 cost I would want to cheat in, however the 4 cost I have on the field tends to be just as good or better.
- But my other 5 cost sphinxes (Jwar Isle Avenger and Quantum Riddler can pull out Consecrated Sphinx, or Dream Eater. Imagine warping in Quantum riddler getting the card draw, sacrificing it to pyre, putting in an absolute bomb.
- Even my 6 costs have bomb hits in the 7 drop slot, Conspiracy Unraveler, Scholar of the Lost Trove, or even Enigma Thief for a clutch tempo swing.
All the while, if Unesh is on the field: Pyre is not only giving options to the engine, it keeps it running. Pyre can be considered a sphinx as far as the engine goes, because it lets me hit sphinxes that aren't in my hand. In blue, having a creature tutor in a creature heavy deck is DOPE. I used to wish that I could use Worldly Tutor or even Birthing Pod, but those are green cards. They cant go in a mono blue deck. With Pyre of Heroes that kind of play is possible.

Minor Change, Big Impact
Cut Ledger Shredder in favor of Quantum Riddler (QR)
When drawn early game, Ledger Shredder might get you to see more cards sometimes. Ledger Shredder smooths draws; it's a good transitional piece. I don't want to see it in my hand late game.
QR draws without the downside of discarding. The draw ability is an ETB ability, which synergizes with many other cards in the deck. It is a cheap sphinx with the warp keyword. QR triggers Unesh. QR is an engine piece that I don't mind seeing in my hand early. (Sidenote: when you flicker QR, the warp ability doesn't resolve at end step.)
The more I think about it the more the cut makes sense. When a transition piece and an engine piece are fighting for a slot in the deck, you have to give it to the engine piece.
Unfortunately the card is expensive right now due to popularity in modern and standard. Because I am a nerd I am still picking up my foil copy. Fight me or don't I am not a fan of the borderless art for this one.

Ponza Twin

This is a VERY interesting take on twin! Deck looks super sweet, rumble being able to dig for both halves of the combo (bc twin is a perm) is awesome. A couple things I might consider: Arbor Elf to increase the effectiveness of your sprawl ramp, and maybe Karn, the Great Creator + Liquimetal Coating for moar ponza-ing? Just ideas though, looks solid as is. Oh yeah I'm also a fan of Blasphemous Act as a sideboard option over the 3dmg sweeps because it will LEVEL some of the scarier aggro threats like Abhorrent Oculus Quantum Riddler Psychic Frog Guide of Souls Kappa Cannoneer and Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury where anger/bhood's simply just doesn't cut it. Also big thanks for checking out/the vote my own gruul ponza list!!
Idoneity on Taigam and Alternate Casting Costs

So, if I am to warp a Quantum Riddler and copy it as my second spell for turn with Taigam, Master Opportunist, would the token copy be exiled on the end step? Does the warp cost carry over to the copy?
Same thing for evoke creatures. Will it get sacrificed if it's the second spell?
