Whenever Burakos attacks, defending player loses X life and you create X Treasure tokens, where X is the number of creatures in your party. (Your party consists of up to four creatures, one Cleric, Rogue, Warrior and Wizard, each.)

Choose a Background (You can have a background as a second commander.)

Ah gotcha. Extus definitely seemed like kind of a strange include at first.

A card I've been enjoying recently is Inquisitorial Rosette. I like that it pulls double duty as a token producer and evasion anthem.

I'd also recommend checking out Hammers of Moradin and Zhentarim Bandit for relatively cheap pick ups. I first played Hammers of Moradin in my Burakos, Party Leader/Folk Hero deck, and was pretty impressed by how it cleared blockers there. I recently slotted a copy into my Isshin deck for clearing lanes.

Commissar Severina Raine is a pretty cool finisher/slightly worse Skullclamp. Her price has been up and down, but I think she is currently under $10. She does some serious work in more token focused Isshin strats.

I definitely missed the combo description in your primer. I saw Leonin Relic-Warder & Animate Dead in your main board & went from there. It's a combo I included in my last iteration of my Alesha deck, & currently run in my Burakos, Party Leader/Folk Hero. I've definitely thought to myself that it could be a pretty easy swap to Cleric tribal if I ever wanted to try it out.

Thanks for the suggestion Last_Laugh. I could see it maybe swapping with Grave Titan.

I'm not super worried about the other token decks in my play group. My friends and I are pretty communicative about threat assessments, so I will sometimes slow roll my own board deployment and play more removal against the other token decks. Once they're in a bad spot I go hard on aggro and swing while they're rebuilding. Authority of the Consuls has also been my best friend in some of those token match ups.

I've also baked in damage and Vigilance anthems to protect myself against crack backs, and to help me bash through weaker boards. Hammers of Moradin has done a lot of work for me in my Burakos, Party Leader/Folk Hero deck, so I'm pretty excited for its higher ceiling in this deck.

Thank you for your suggestions Jett2112. I think that my deck generally has a pretty tidy CMC curve already. The top-end is currently the 5 spells I have at 5 cmc. I'm not looking to Casualty 2 every time I cast an instant or sorcery, and haven't had too much of an issue popping off a few spells per turn beyond turn 5.

In defense of some of your suggested cuts:

  • Volcanic Torrent - One of the most recent additions to the deck. I've played it in my Prosper, Tome-Bound deck to enjoyable success. I recently added it here as a one-sided board wipe that can be copied, and also gives me the chance to Cascade a couple more spells out. This deck needs as many one-sided wipe options as it can manage, since it will have a weaker board state than most other decks in my play group.

  • Lier, Disciple of the Drowned - Ideally helps cover on the turn I'm going to combo off, but most importantly lets me flashback spells. In a pinch he can be sacrificed to Casualty 2. I've also considered Past in Flames in this spot, but preferred to have the body on board.

  • Storm-Kiln Artist - Shits out treasures when I'm spell slinging and copying spells. On the turns that I'm using Casualty 2 on Anhelo, Storm-Kiln can net me at least 2 treasures. Since his power grows with the number of Artifacts I control, he also is a decent ground-based chump blocker, or body for Casualty 2 if absolutely needed.

  • Archmage Emeritus - Like Storm-Kiln Artist, except can potentially draw multiple cards each turn, especially if I'm copying spells with Casualty 2 or any of the other copy effects in the deck.

  • Leyline of Anticipation - Potential opening hand shenanigans are the best upside here for setting up flash speed fuckery for free. I absolutely want the the capability to play all of my sorcery speed stuff at instant speed (Demonic Tutor, Jeska's Will, Torment of Hailfire, etc etc)

  • Birgi, God of Storytelling  Flip - She nets every time I cast a spell, which can fuel even more spell slinging, especially on turns I want to pop off. At worst she's another body for Casualty 2. She also has the backside everyone forgets about, which can impulse draw as needed.

  • Atsushi, the Blazing Sky - A flying defender the majority of the time, but exactly the type of creature I want to throw into the Casualty 2 grinder. I most often pick the 3 Treasures on death trigger, but also like knowing the impulse draw is an option if needed. If I need to go aggro for any reason he also has Trample to push damage through other Flying creatures.

Your suggested additions:

  • Pulse of the Forge - If anything, I might replace Brimstone Volley for it. Not an addition that I'm dying to make.

  • Rapid Hybridization - I had this in the initial version of the deck, but replaced it with Reality Shift, because I like exile based removal more when I can have it.

  • Reanimate - I like Reanimate, just not necessarily in this deck. If I copy it, I don't want to be losing a lot of life, especially when I tend to have the softest board state compared to others, and will likely get hit the most. It is life loss I don't think this deck can afford much from having played it a few times. I think I opted to include Kolaghan's Command instead for the additional modal options. Yes, Reanimate is better for getting creatures directly to the battlefield as opposed to back to hand.

  • Lightning Bolt - A classic. I don't remember why I omitted it before. It could potentially replace Cabal Ritual, as Ritual has been pretty situational in my games so far.

  • Brainstorm - Something I probably omitted for another counter spell or something. Def something I'll reconsider if I feel I need some more top-deck set up.

  • Dauthi Voidwalker - I do like Voidwalker, and run some copies in my Isshin, Two Heavens as One, Prosper, Tome-Bound, and Burakos, Party Leader/Folk Hero decks respectively. I like Voidwalker a bit more in those decks, since those 3 want to play more aggressively than this one wants to.

  • Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer - Yes, this card is good. The only way I am playing this card is if I proxy it, or if I pull one from a pack. I am not spending $95 on just one card lmfao. I can also already hear my friends' sighs as Ragavan hits the table. Great card, just not particularly my taste.

Looks pretty good for a first time deck! Something to keep in mind as you get feedback - EDH decks can be very personal, and playing at all sorts of power levels and competition is valid. Take this feedback with a grain of salt, the important thing is to play with the cards you like for the experience you enjoy. MTG (especially EDH) is a complicated game and there isn't any one strictly correct way to make an EDH deck, or one approach to the game.

tl;dr you do you!

Okay so IMO:

-You've got about 14x ramp (mana increasing) cards and 36x lands, which IMO is a lot of ramp, although to be fair you do have some big creatures to play. Your mileage may vary with how consistent your lands are in your opening hand and whether you get enough ramp to offset the slightly higher chances of being mana starved (also influenced by the mulligan policy of whoever you play with). I prefer 38 lands, and around 8-10x ramp so if it were me I would drop a few ramp cards for extra lands, but that's a personal preference. I don't have experience with running that ratio of ramp vs lands, so if that works for you then more power to you

-The mana pie inner ring shows your mana base of your lands is 50% black and 50% green, but the outer ring shows you have proportionally more green cards, so it's best to re-balance your Swamps and Forests to match.

-You have a good amount of interaction in my opinion (cards that let you destroy opponent's cards or otherwise mess with them), although you could afford to drop 1-2 board wipes (cards that destroy all creatures/etc on the battlefield) if you want to include other cards IMO

-You have a decent amount of card draw but could benefit from adding a few more cards that let you draw more than once. I'd recommend some of these as cheap options that give repeated draw:

-Your game plan seams to be mostly an aristocrat strategy (sacrificing your own creatures for value), also big creatures and power/toughness pumping. You have a good amount of creature/token generation and cards that let you sacrifice things, but you could add a few more effects that benefit you when your creatures die along the lines of Blood Artist. Some cheap ones include

-To fit in those above 2 categories, there are some cards that although powerful don't synergize as much with the common mechanics of your deck as a whole (generating tokens, sacrificing creatures, pumping your army). If you'd like more deck synergy, consider cutting these cards

  • Living Death in my opinion you don't have enough cards that fill up your graveyard to justify an expensive mass reanimate (returning creatures from GY to battlefield)
  • Burakos, Party Leader: Even with Maskwood Nexus and a board full of tokens to make all creature types, the max party size is still 4, so even in a perfect situation you won't be getting a lot of value out of this card
  • These three are all powerful and dont clash with your strategy, but also don't synergize a lot:
  • Elder Brain
  • Froghemoth
  • Puppeteer Clique

Again though, take all this as my own opinion and not a dictation. This deck is your own and there's nothing wrong with playing cards you like instead of trying to optimize every card slot. Overall this is much better constructed than the piles of random stuff I started playing EDH with!

Glad you you're getting a better sense of direction with your deck mr5cientific. I think my deck started out trying to do a little bit of everything that Isshin is capable of, and over time I've started leaning more and more into the aggro elements.

For what it's worth, I think if you keep any Vigilance anthem, Brave the Sands might be the best one, since it gives your creatures extra blocking capabilities. Def makes your board "bigger", especially after boardwipe rebuilds.

The extra combat step stuff seemed so tricky to set up and pull off consistently when I play tested it. If there is any other "sub-variant" for Isshin that I was thinking of recently, is a list centered around Party, and incorporating Burakos, Party Leader and other Party support in the 99. Red has a lot of Wizards and Warriors which kinda makes up for some of the more lack luster ones in Black and White.

Thank you, I'm glad you like my list! I've been updating a lot, and try to keep the primer as up to date as possible. I haven't had a chance to play Elder Brain yet, but it seems like it could pack a punch. I'm also considering swapping out Hellrider for Etali, Primal Storm to have another top end threat/value piece. I had Etali in earlier versions of the deck, but removed her due to being big removal bait. I'll be updating the list at least once every couple months with new, never-ending set releases, and after any games played.

@CrowUmbra: Burakos, Party Leader triggers at least off of himself. 2 damage and 2 treasure, assuming Isshin is out, seems super solid.

I flat out had to pick up like 6 copies of Black Market Connections for all my decks that run black given how strong it is.

Regarding CMC: I do not know how your games are going, I usually don't have many issues casting stuff. I re-designed my Isshin list to run more midrange. I spend turns 1-4 usually playing rocks and support stuff and spend the rest of the game keeping my opponents constantly on the ropes. I tried an aggro (lots of 1-3 drops) approach and it was constantly losing. aggro in that manner doesn't run as well in EDH/cEDH because it usually lacks the ability to finish the games. In every deck I make I have at least a few high end bombs. Hope this helps!
