Basically It's mana ramp until you can pull the better creatures out and then bounce them and recast them to gain tokens or flicker them with cards like cloudshift and restoration angel

Help?

Grizzly92, 12 years ago

I could use a lot of help on my sideboard. I honestly don't know what to have in it. Sigarda, Host of Herons, Angel of Serenity, Rest in Peace, Oblivion Ring, and anything to combat aggressive decks comes to mind. Even when I was ramping like crazy, the aggressive decks outrun me in terms of damage and by the time I have a reasonable defense it is too late.

Came Out Ahead

Silverf1sh, 12 years ago

Today, played some practice for the next FNM with some buddies, and took 2-1, losing to a UW spirit deck that I collabed on withTheGreatAndPowerfulTrixie that Just loved to keep Traft on the field. Overall, I'm quite happy with it.

here is the deck as of now. still need two more champions for the mainboard. also need to get a sword of fire and ice and one more basilisk collar. once these are achieved then i will focus on the sideboard.

A Rather Ridiculous Round of Playtests

thefreeman, 12 years ago

I played against the Zombie Infamy deck for this first round of playtests.

Game 1: Holy crap, this first game was crazy. The only thing that really saved me here was Mana Drain + Isochron Scepter in my opening hand, which shut him down so hard I couldn't believe it. The only time he tried to bring out Grimgrin, Corpse-Born, I countered it and got 5 mana for my next turn. Even once he was able to get him out, it would have been a bad idea since my Cytoplast Manipulator would have taken it the very next turn. I called this one a win due to shutting down the vast majority of his options, leaving him with basically nothing.

Game 2: This game went poorly for me, as he was able to get Grimgrin, Corpse-Born out fairly early without much trouble, and was able to swing over and over thanks to my lack of cards I needed.

Game 3: This was another win for me, though this time I have Lorescale Coatl to thank; with no removal, this was able to pump itself up to a ridiculous 9/9 by the end of the game. Once again, my Cytoplast Manipulator prevented him from getting his commander out. He almost got me with his cast of Army of the Damned, but using Gifts Ungiven to tutor up Mana Drain, Twincast, Contagion Engine, and Glen Elendra Archmage, not to mention my Leyline of Anticipation that was already on the battlefield, gave me plenty of ways to counter the spell, or turn it to my own ends. I really wasn't sure what another player would have chosen, so I just went with countering it. On my next turn I moved all the counters on my Vigean Hydropon to my Cytoplast Root-Kin, and swung with all my creatures for the win.

updated version can be found here Rakdos Burn Mk2 - did it this way because I don't wanna lose this deck list by modding further and would like to eventually tweak it to make work with Havoc Festival main even though it slow.

Desecration Demon feature for Rakdos Burn

DaBears, 12 years ago

added a 4th eldrazi It That Betrays, making a total of 4 in the deck, with how fast this deck pumps out defenders it increases the odds of drawing an eldrazi from 1/20 to 1/15 and with Blue Sun's Zenith added to the deck and the amount of ramp i get from my defenders, its much easier for me to actually get an eldrazi out around turn 7 or 8 while having a dominant defender force on the field

Something different

TheHerc, 12 years ago

I decided to put in Desecration Demon instead of Corpsejack Menace. Corpsejack gets me counters, but the Demon allows me to put a lot of pressure then I had before.

First run and a little update

l337m4573rpyr0, 12 years ago

Played this in a few games last Friday and I'm loving the way this deck plays so far. I'm taking Maverick30's suggestion and throwing in an Admonition Angel for a little more fun with flickering.

Changes

thebbman, 12 years ago

Changed the name as this really isn't a control deck.

Also, removed the Farseeks as my mana curve is already rather low. I instead added two Jarad's Orders so that I could search for a gravecrawler and any other creature to get the combo going. I also added Jarad himself into the mix. I figure being able to sacrifice to him would only increase the amount of damage I do. Especially with a Blood Artist out.

After some debate about the interpretation of the rules for an old printing of Balance and a realization that it might be better to have a full board wipe anyway, i have replaced it with Wrath of God

As to enchantments, looking through my cards i mostly found white enchantments that added toughness not power so they wouldn't be a huge help to my shadows. although i might look again and see if i find anything.

Sideboard

Halzen, 12 years ago

I've included a sideboard for the first time, mostly with control cards like Negate and Syncopate, and some additional copies of cards already in the main deck. I want to avoid putting pure control cards in the main board because as it is the main is very streamlined for the purposes of hitting the win combos. I don't want to screw myself on the draw if I don't NEED to control anything, since I rarely need to counter anything against things like aggro or token decks.

v2

Halzen, 12 years ago

Playtesting has gone well, but I'm very susceptible to control. To counter that, I've included some new defensive measures, as well as Sands of Delirium as an additional win condition.

CloudTurkey, 12 years ago

After some play testing it needs more removal. My enchantment control deck would lock it down by removing all the big creatures. Deck needs a sideboard.

Update after some thoughts

CloudTurkey, 12 years ago

-4 slitherheads, +4 young wolves. Decided I would rather have the cheap blockers that come back then an extra counters on my bigs. -3 Ulvenwald Bear, +3 Gatecreeper Vine. Want to save my 3 drop for the Connoisseurs and would rather ramp up to my main win condition (corpsejack + hydra) then have a chance at a 4/4 (or 6/6) for 3 mana. -1 Rancor. They keep coming back. 4 was overkill. -1 Hunger of the Howlpack, +1 increasing savagery. Give me something to do with my mana if the game stalls. +2 Blessing of Nature. Obviously hoping for the miracle top deck. -1 Connoisseur. Only really need one in play to set up morbid. Took out some morbid so I can afford the lower percentage of drawing a connoisseur.

Side Deck

tlockdownj, 12 years ago

Okay my side deck is what I feel I am going to need to make adjustments for, however I will still be updating it constantly and it will definitely need improvement. Anyways let me move on to the side deck,

I chose Witchbane Orb for a way to protect myself from dicarding cards, and taking direct damage that I don't have to. I am not sure how many of these I want in my side deck because I feel one is not enough so I might put around 2 or 3 just to ensure the safety of being able to draw it.

Next, I chose Brimstone Volley because it is an instant morbid that deals 5 damage. This compensates for the high cost Bonfire of the Damned can get if you don't use it's miracle ability. It can also be used to control the battlefeild if they don't spawn weak creatures.

I chose Slaughter Games because it is a very good card, but the cost is very high. However this would be used after game 1 to prevent the opponents strategy or get rid of enchantments which I cannot do.

Nivmagus Elemental would serve its purpose if I were head up against a counter based control deck. If they decided they can counter my spells I can direct this card's ability towards them and use this sucker to prevent the countering of the spell to make each instant and sorcery pointless and making him really powerful. This card would replace my Rakdos Cackler.

Last card in my side deck is Rakdos Charm to either prevent a massive spawning of counters or graveyard retrieval, reanimation, deck. Plus, the destroying of an artifact can always come in handy.

As I said before my side deck has been chosen without much play from my deck

Control

Slycne, 12 years ago

Added Curse of Echoes and Angel of Glory's Rise to the maybeboard as potential means to disrupt or counter control decks. Curse of Echoes let's me throw their stuff back at them or even the board state after an Entreat the Angels. Angel of Glory's Rise is better against destructive sweepers.

Updated Deck

tlockdownj, 12 years ago

Okay so I replaced Searing Spear with Pillar of Flame not just for the mana cost, but also for the exiled effect. I am going to miss the instant cost of searing spear, but I feel it will be worth it. Next, I took out Hellhole Flailer and put in Soulcage Fiend for the effect of them trying to get rid of my creatures will cost life. Lastly, I put in Bonfire of the Damned instead Brimstone Volley. While Brimstone Volley is a great finisher I thought of a way to turn Bonfire of the Damned into a finisher. If I were to have out some Soulcage Fiends i could easily Bonfire of the Damned my self after combat and if they took the three damage already they would take another three per fiend. This is if I have control of the game, but it is just an option. If not that option I could easily just Pillar of Flame one of them as well, but I most likely will be trying to take out their creatures with this card.

Now, it is time to build up my side deck. If anyone has any suggestions on help building my side deck please comment.
