Coward_Token on Hybrid rule change

In the recent update article to the bracket system, Gavin Verhey floated the idea of making hybrid mana symbols inclusive rather than excluding for the purpose of the 99. Regardless of how you feel about the change, what would the impact be?

Scryfall search for cards with hybrid mana

Ashiok, Dream Render gets to be annoying more often

Murderous Redcap gets to combo in even more decks

Dream Salvage: mono-black discard decks

Azor's Elocutors: mono-white pillow fort gets a wincon?

Sygg, River Cutthroat would be cool for a lot of political decks

Everlasting Torment & Kulrath Knight for Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons & Massacre Girl, Known Killer. For the Knight, also Toxrill, in case you want to be even more annoying.

Vexing Shusher expands its anti-countering services

Wort, the Raidmother might be neat for red+ spellslinger that uses tokens, like Magnus the Red

Rhys the Redeemed: more power to go-wide strategies (although Elfball haters might not be so enthustiatic)

The bonder cycle: Jubilant Skybonder, Cunning Nightbonder, Proud Wildbonder, and Sonorous Howlbonder ... also Alert Heedbonder, I guess.

Enchanted Evening, Gilder Bairn: more shenanigans abound

Godhead of Awe: might be neat for mono-W?

Worm Harvest: Titania is now the queen of worms

All companions become available to an expanded selection of color identites, with the exception of Jegantha (and Lutri)

Lost again, this deck's 5th loss in a row. A three hour long, five player marathon. Aubrey refused to press his undeniable Hakbal of the Surging Soul advantage, especially after Connor board wiped the rest of us by copying a Volcanic Fallout. Aubrey, the following player in turn order, could've taken out his brother, Auren, on Koma, World-Eater, which was a tapped giant threat and the next biggest threat at the table. Jared and I had Propaganda and Sphere of Safety, respectively, dissuading and disallowing attacks. One turn cycle later, Aubrey tried to take back his Triumph of the Hordes, since he was tapped out and couldn't attack me or Jared. I successfully argued he couldn't take it back. He attacked and killed his brother...finally! I played Cyclonic Rift at the end of Jared's turn and Connor said he would counter it, even though he only had one creature out, his commander, Magnus the Red, while Jared and Aubrey had major armies. He said he had to go and so agreed not to counter, conceding soon after. Jared had about 30 mana with his Omo, Queen of Vesuva giving him the Urzatron, plus four Gates for Baldur's Gate, allowing him to spend 27 mana for a Marit Lage from Dark Depths. He killed Aubrey with it, surprising me by not taking me out. I board wiped with Sublime Exhalation but found my only out to a lethal Marit Lage was Enduring Ideal into Runed Halo. I staved off more attacks with Back from the Brink but couldn't withstand Jared's removal and pressure... Lost a very close, five-player game.

I think I run both Battlefield Thaumaturge and Magnus the Red in my list. Thaumaturge is definitely more mana efficient, but sometimes having a a beefy 4/5 flyer on board is nice for the offense and defensive capabilities.

Thanks for the suggestions Crow-Umbra! I like Command Beacon and Apostle's Blessing as defensive options. Hinata kinda lets everyone know what's going to happen, and yeah, it's a removal magnet, so more shields would be effective.

Eerie Interlude is nice, but it removes tokens. I haven't played with this enough to know how many tokens/ token creators are too much, so until I find the right balance, I might hold off on this one for now.

Between Magnus the Red or Battlefield Thaumaturge, which do you think is more efficient? I'd probably stick to Battlefield Thaumaturge for redundancy since the majority of my X spells only really scale with the number of targets, not the amount of mana spent. But that does depend on the type of spells one is running.

I've thought about Willbreaker before, but I decided against it. I've only got a few spells that would deal damage and not outright destroy a creature, so it takes up a slot that could otherwise be used to directly destroy things.

Very nice deck and primer! I have a Hinata deck that I've piloted a couple times, and let a friend borrow this past weekend. Hinata is super resilient. A few cards I'd recommend that I'm currently running in my list:

  • Command Beacon - Helpful utility land to get Hinata back out if hated out multiple times.

  • Apostle's Blessing - Essentially a free spot protection spell with Hinata out.

  • Eerie Interlude - If you have at least one other creature out in addition to Hinata, it turns into a board protection for 1 lol.

  • Veilstone Amulet - Protection redundancy, but adds a protective wrinkle to any of your instant speed spells.

  • Magnus the Red - Redundant cost reduction in case Hinata gets taken off the field.

  • Willbreaker - Gain control of any creature you target, if it isn't destroyed.

TypicalTimmy Ovika seems like a lot of fun with stuff like Hordeling Outburst, Magnus the Red, Hellrider, and all of the Impact Tremors effects
