Let's have some fun today!! Would love to hear people's opinions and thoughts. Who are your favourite uncommon commanders? Please link the deck lists if you have them so we can check them out! :)

I haven't played her but Whisper, Blood Liturgist always seemed cool. I even threw a list together if I ever get around to playing her, Reaps Whispers.

I think her ability to return creatures is really strong since it isn't very common in the command zone and, since I'm a combo player, her interaction with Thornbite Staff makes me giggle.

crash328 HELLL YES. Tatyova is amazing!!

DrukenReaps I love Whisper, too ;) I have an Eldrazi vorthos deck with Whisper that I love to death.

The one I'm really, really curious to build is Danitha Capashen, Paragon

I feel like Mowu, Loyal Companion is really fun for voltron, it’s not necessarily op or anything but just pure ol damage.

Chhris also yes Tatyova, Benthic Druid is amazing my friend thinks he made a “jank” deck out of it using only about 20 dollars worth of cards, mostly out random Simic cards he had. It’s really funny to see expressions of commander players like using A powerful commander while my friend has like 6 lands by turn 2 or 3

Bladewing the Risen ! After all, who doesn't like reanimating dragons?

I love my Toshiro Umezawa mono black control deck, and I'm also a fan of Neheb, the Eternal as aggro with an equally strong late-game if he gets delayed.

Also, Savra, Queen of the Golgari is the best golgari commander and I will die on that hill. (Savra)

PhotogenicParasympathetic just saying that those are rare commanders, but we are talking about uncommon ones. Still those are great!

Hands down Slimefoot, the Stowaway . I've loved this card since its release (although I've never built a deck around him outside of arena)

lifemtg: Lol, my bad - I read that as "commanders that aren't commonly played" not "commanders that are uncommons."

'S not for normal commander, but Kasmina, Enigmatic Mentor is a sweet oathbreaker/commander in a playgroup that will allow it. Lots of proliferate to keep her going, she smooths out your draws while dropping tokens for protection, and her passive helps protect important creatures like Laboratory Maniac etc.

And of course, there's Tetsuko Umezawa, Fugitive , and all the 1 power/toughness creatures, like Rootwater Thief , Scalpelexis , Raven Guild Master , Mindshrieker , etc.

I've put together several of the Uncommon Commanders, because I really enjoy them.

My Tatyova, Benthic Druid deck, Tatyova, Land-Matters is probably the best one I have. Of all the uncommon commanders printed, I could see her getting reprinted at rare. She's that good, even with the higher CMC.

I finished up Slimefoot, the Stowaway recently: Slimefoot, the Stowaway, and it is a very solid build, even without the staples like Doubling Season and all those expensive cards. Golgari is my jam, so I really love it, and its very consistent.

My favorite of the bunch is an Azorius build I did with Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage at the helm: Raff's Renewal. His ability allows me to play the bulk of the deck at instant speed, and makes for some fun interactions. Its probably the least consistent of my decks, but the one I like the most.

I've also got a Valduk, Keeper of the Flame Voltron build, and am working on a build with Tiana, Ship's Caretaker . The uncommons are great to build with!

You just can’t beat out our lord and savior Yargle, Glutton of Urborg ;)

July 2, 2019 1:18 p.m.

Either way, Yargle, Glutton of Urborg still fits the bill as both an uncommon Commander to run, that was also printed at the Uncommon rarity, AND more importantly, becomes a (flavorful) runaway Juggernaut very quickly..

Garna, the Bloodflame is intriguing to me, but I just have trouble piecing together how to make her work well.

July 3, 2019 4:21 p.m.

bushido_man96: If you're looking for ideas, here's my list for Garna, the Bloodflame ! I never actually got around to building it in paper, so I don't have solid confirmation on good/bad/unplayable, but maybe it'll give you some thoughts!

The basic principle is to get cost reducers into play and to get things like Phyrexian Altar and Thermopod and Skirge Familiar out, then discard and sacrifice and get mana to cast Garna, sac Garna in response to her own trigger, and get everything back to do it again infinitely.

I always thought that Hallar, the Firefletcher had the highest ceiling in terms of unique deck ideas aand cmdr potential :)

July 4, 2019 12:04 a.m.

bushido_man96 says... #22

I do think Hallar, the Firefletcher has some great build-around options, both in a budget-friendly build, or without. He is unfortunately limited by the number of decent kicker spells out there, but with some Eternal Witness and Temur Sabertooth hijinks, and other nice tools available to green, he has great potential. He is definitely one worth building.

I just want a deck where I can play my Grunn, the Lonely King and not feel like a total idiot haha

July 4, 2019 12:33 a.m.

bushido_man96 says... #24

Grunn, the Lonely King is a solid commander option in his own right. The guys over at Star City Games did a video a while back of pauper builds, and Grunn was just nasty. He's pretty much Voltron, but man, can he get big and smashy fast.

I feel like the uncommons from Dominaria and the few other uncommon legends are all good commander options, but they generally get overshadowed by some of the cooler ones that are normally in the mythic slot. Also with Wizards seeming to print new legendary creatures in each set now and normally hitting the nail on the head in terms of making them super cool and creative we may not see the uncommons get used much anymore.
