Theros block has released a slew of creatures that grind the game down, along with the most powerful removal in white. These releases along with some old friends have allowed for Death and Taxes style decks to begin showing up in standard.

Card Choices:Soldier of the Pantheon is a solid one drop that avoids Detention Sphere, Abrupt Decay, and the new scary gods along with some other powerhouses.

Spirit of the Labyrinth a 3/1 for 2 mana is already fantastic, but its ability to shut down your opponents' extra card draw just makes it even better. It ruins Underworld Connections and the plans of almost every control deck, so long as it can stay on the field.

Aegis of the Gods destroys a burn deck's day and hurts quite a bit of others like Thoughtseize. Hexproofing myself is just a great thing.

Imposing Sovereign lets all of my little guys get through to the opponent a little faster by keeping their potential blockers down. It also hurts Rakdos Aggros' need for haste.

Lyev Skyknight another 3/1, but with flying! He can stall an opponent's biggest creatures for a turn, which just may be their downfall.

Banisher Priest is a versatile removal spell who can hit for a few damage, which is nice.

Eidolon of Rhetoric makes sure nobody is going to flood the field in one turn. For an uncommon, the Eidolon is pretty insane.

Dryad Militant a sideboard card mostly for dealing with decks using Deathrite Shaman or for control decks so they don't get back all of their card draw whenever they crack and Elixir of Immortality.

Banishing Light is magnificent removal of most anything. While not as incredibly powerful as its brother Detention Sphere, it does serve the purpose quite well.

Reprisal gets rid of the biggest threats that aren't indestructible or hexproof. Getting rid of a Desecration Demon or an Arbor Colossus for 2 mana and not playing black is no joke.

Godsend is the big finisher that also serves as removal and a good bargaining tool. It wins a lot of games.

Detention Sphere eliminates all of those pesky little pack rats or any other such garbage almost permanently. Nobody uses enough enchantment removal to keep them off forever.

The night went surprisingly well for me using this deck for the first time. I went 4-1 and placed 4th overall. Although this deck is very good against MBD, I was very happy I didn't have to deal with it because it's just a boring match.

Match 1: Went 2-0 against a Simic Midrange deck running around Kiora, the Crashing Wave and Clone. First game, Kiora went ultimate because I couldn't draw into a blue mana in time to get rid of it, but with Imposing Sovereign slowing down the krakens and eventually getting an island for some removal, I was able to finish it up by chipping away with Lyev Skyknight. The first game took about 25 minutes. The second game was a rough one for my opponent. I had a perfect curvature and took everything off his board, hitting for 0-2-4-6-8 for a turn 5 win, so the second match only took 3 minutes.

Match 2: Went 2-1 against Mono Green Monsters. This deck truly frightened me, due to the fact that it is just as fast as mine. Game 1 was a very clean game where we just took turns hitting eachother with some things, until I got some removal and gained the upper hand. Game 2 was pretty gross as he played Burning-Tree Emissary into Burning-Tree Emissary into Arbor Colossus on turn 4 and used an Aspect of Hydra on his tusker to hit me for a living crap ton on the same turn. Game 3 I slowed down his board with Imposing Sovereign and Eidolon of Rhetoric. He played some big creatures and thought he had it, but I used Reprisal on both and got in with a Soldier of the Pantheon equipped with a Godsend.

Match 3: Went 0-2 against Golgari. He mainboarded Golgari Charm which hurt me some, but the real killer was bestowing Spiteful Returned on creatures with evasion. I may have gone 1-2, but long before the ending of one game, I stupidly attacked Vraska with a 2/1 instead of him, and he had 2 life left before he got out his Whip of Erebos.

Match 4: Went 2-0 against Naya Hexproof. This was my friend's deck and I truly thought from our past games that he would win it due to how much targeting I have to do, but game 1 he only had Fleecemane Lion and the Selesnya Charm tokens to attack me with, so I got rid of them and chipped him to death. Game 2 I sideboarded in more Celestial Flare and 2 Glaring Spotlight, making me able to keep his board under control while I chipped.

Match 5: Went 2-1 against Naya Midrange. Game 1 was absolutely horrid for me. I mulligan'd to 4, and was stuck on 1 land, needless to say I was stomped. Game 2 I curved out more properly and banished all of his big creatures that came into play tapped and finished with Godsend on a Lyev Skyknight again. Game 3 I played a turn 1 Pithing Needle on Domri Rade to which my opponent looked at his hand and replied "Well... That's unfortunate." I played a Banisher Priest (Which he eventually killed) on his Boros Reckoner and 2 Spirit of the Labyrinth and eventually got a Godsend on the board. Later in the game I was able to attack with a Spirit for 6, re-equip Godsend for the defense and wait for the next turn. He Revoke Existence'd my Godsend, but there was another in my hand that I could play and equip on the same turn, so I hit him for the game.
