Sideboard

Maybeboard

I've had/worked on this deck since protour fate reforged when Chapin ran that esper delve control. I liked the deck so much I had to build it and apparently others did as well and grixis control was born. This version is my take on the deck.

No i won't be running jace vrynn's prodigy for a multitude of reasons, one being his absurd cost, and two being I feel he is a nombo with the rest of the deck at times. He's a great card but I wanted to focus on the grinding attrition based game and beating face with big fish, Gurmag Angler

Mini Primer/Deck Components

The beaters

Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Gurmag Angler

These 2 creatures are the main win cons of the deck and all manage to avoid the best removal spell in abrupt decay. Not only that they can either block or kill Siege Rhino without dying.

Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet

He solves one of the big weaknesses of the deck which is life loss and paying lots of life. Given how stacked the deck is with removal his abilites are very relevant. Additionally he is actually mainboard hate against decks like Abzan and company/ anafenza and company since their infinite combo is turned off with kalitas on the board.

The removal

Lightning Bolt, Terminate, Doom Blade, Dismember, Kolaghan's Command

This deck relies on attrition in the early game to make it to the late game where my beaters do most of the work. bolt gives extra reach as well in those tight finishes. Blade is a personal touch as I find most decks I play against aren't running black creatures that my other spells can't take care of. Dismember is great versus eldrazi and things like master of the waves which hurts this deck a lot. Kommand is good for all of it's utility, probably one of the best BR spells ever printed for versatility.

Cantrips

Serum Visions, Thought Scour

They dig through the deck to keep my hand flush with kills and hitting my land drops.

DisruptionInquisition of Kozilekgood for early game hate and for info retrieval on my opponent.

Feel free to playtest with/against it and let me know if there's anything that could make it better or if it utterly fails to a specific archetype.

Updates Add

Made oath based changes and managed a 2nd place finish at my LGS. Among the changes being Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet. Rounds 1 and 4 I played against eldrazi variants that were more like Eldrazi light than anything else the first I handled in 3 games and the latter in 2, surviving a rest in peace from my opponent in game 2.

Round 2 was a 2-1 win versus Fish where my wins I just had removal ready for all his threats.

Round 3 was a 1-2 loss to anafenza and company. the first game was a win after Kalitas dropped but after I made boarding mistakes I couldn't close out games 2 and 3 at all.
