At first I was trying to play BR control in a more traditional way, but was consistently beeing outvalued both by aggro AND other control decks.
Since the meta is starting to get more and more aggressive (Mardu and G/B kinda shuted copycat combo down), I figured
Dynavolt Tower
, even beeing weird for this color combination, could help me giving me more consistent removal, and in case I'm going against another control deck, it could help me not beeing outvalued so hard. After that, I decided that adding a little blue could bring a positive results.
My considerations:
-
Jace, Unraveler of Secrets
and
Glimmer of Genius
were the main reasons I decided to use Blue on the deck, since both are just straight better versions of
Ob Nixilis Reignited
and
Live Fast
. Also, with blue I would get access to some counter bullshit like
Negate
.
-
Torrential Gearhulk
is one of the best creatures in the format, and works pretty well in this deck, it's also a straight better version of
Goblin Dark-Dwellers
.
-I decided to take away two copies of Shock of the maindeck to give space to
Incendiary Flow
. Even though it's a sorcery spell, it can deal with
Scrapheap Scrounger
and
Winding Constrictor
(two of my main-concerns on early games) very nicely.
-I'll be testing
Gonti, Lord of Luxury
, since it should be a good replacement for
Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
on control and combo matchups
-I opted to replace
Yahenni's Expertise
with
Flaying Tendrils
for my sideboard, since I started to notice that it was pretty hard for me to get the 3 cmc cast value from the expertise (basically it would require either for me to have
Transgress the Mind
or
Lost Legacy
on hand, or my opponent to have a PW on the field and I holding
Ruinous Path
). On the other hand, the tendrils give me another way to exile
Scrapheap Scrounger
while getting a minor board clear in comparison to
Radiant Flames
for the same cmc. But destroying the small guys, the ones that my opponent can vomit on the field on a faster rate than I can remove is the goal here, and -2/-2 will most likely do the job.
Well, any thoughts about my decision-making would be appreciated! =D
