Modern, preety competitive and synergistic deck. Its a lot of fun. It's not that easy to squeeze out all of the value from sac/death trigger mechanics.

Here is some flavor from my old standard version. Some cards were changed to suit modern but the main theme is the same ;)My b/w humans version of aristocrats. Sacrafice everything, even their souls, for the win in magic. ;)

Early they'll try to fight for their lives, Gather the Townsfolk to defend their city, standing united with Champion of the Parish, bonding souls with Silverblade Paladin. Fools they are. They all are like Doomed Travelers. Noone will survive. Even great Mikaeus, the Lunarch can't save their Lingering Souls after death. Cartel Aristocrats will sacrafice every remnant that survived to save their life but not for long. The Maw of the Obzedat will devour everyone. And then, when the flame of life will finally be about the wear off they gonna be reminded about their Immortal Servitude and rise again so they can continue to fall in the name of orzhov...

You can watch this mascarade as long as you want. I know that you adore humans suffering. Dont you think this could be good material for great art? I bet it would suit Sorin, Lord of Innistrad chambers.

Synergy is preety much everywhere in the deck. Good weenie humans start with Champion of the Parish to take some of life in the beginning backed up by big blowouts of Cartel Aristocrat+Blood Artist combined with Xathrid Necromancer, lots of tokens, or Mirror Entity. Very point removal and wrath resistant creatures ensure you got something on the board to push your enemy. Either push them with elspeth, equip the sword on some of the leftovers or wait for Return to the Ranks to gather again your combo pieces for major blow.

Think about Return to the Ranks taking out about 4 creatures from yard.. you can either have big Champion of the Parish taking some humans out or take Cartel Aristocrat+Blood Artists+Doomed Traveler to push damage with aristocrats protection for few turns or burn them out with artist triggers. You can mish mash everything acording to plan.

Mirror Entity acts multiple roles in the deck( i will add one more when i grab it):

  1. Its very effective (knowing your creatures are mainly 1/1) anthem effect on a stick wich can be saced/bash face...

  2. It enable sacing of xathrid necromancer zombies or spirits to get another ones by giving everyone human tribe (blood artist value etc etc)

  3. If there is no sac engine on the board but you have blood artist you can use his ability x=0 to suicide dmg enemy by wrathing your side of board. (also its instant so you can always repeat this in response to people trying to remove your blood artist/necromancer or something else).

Of course the deck sometimes got slow draws but its rare and in course of game it evens out very fast. The deck can play defensively too. Its good to hear that you can sac your creature in response to damage by enemy lifelinking creature response to damage (wink to Wurmcoil Engine)sac creatures in response to exile efects to be sure that they land in graveyard.Deck is little slower after sideboard because enemy will board in graveyard hate. but it stands chance anyway.
