Henzie "Toolbox" Torre
Legendary Creature — Devil Rogue
Each creature spell you cast with converted mana cost/mana value 4 or greater has blitz. The blitz cost is equal to its mana cost. (You may choose to cast that spell for its blitz cost. If you do it gains haste and "When this creature dies, draw a card." Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.)
Blitz costs you pay cost less for each time you've cast your commander from the command zone this game.

Unleashing the Maelstrom: Yidris' Controlled Chaos
7 months ago
Played a couple games. Yidris sputtered out, again, probably should have mulliganed.
Second try, Yidris kept hitting land drops. Suspended Wheel of Fate, Turn 3 Waste Not. Turn 4 Primal Amulet Flip, Turn 5 Dark Petition. Taylor on Henzie "Toolbox" Torre, mostly, had hit me down to 3, the other players could have killed me. Taylor destroyed my Waste Not in response to the Wheel of Fate being cast; he channeled Boseiju, Who Endures. No matter. That gave me the Island I needed to cast the Turnabout that I would not have been able to cast otherwise. Main phase, cast Seething Song to flip into Primal Wellspring Flip, allowing me to copy Emergent Ultimatum. Got to cast Time Warp, and Ghostly Flicker while Dualcaster Mage got shuffled back. No matter. Used Increasing Vengeance to copy the original Emergent Ultimatum, again! Will and Thomas had already conceded but Taylor started arguing about the stack before angrily leaving, repeating, "I'm done! I'm done!" Would have had infinite mana with some extra turns, probably an Aetherflux Reservoir to boot.

Kaervek the Merciless, Vampires & Doomsday Demons
9 months ago
Having completed my quest to play all 52 of my decks, I decided to try getting a win with all of my decks
October 4
Kaervek the Merciless, Vampires & Doomsday Demons second loss. Couldn't stop the Henzie "Toolbox" Torre. Mikaeus, the Unhallowed brought back so many creatures. Twice. Through two board wipes. My losers' record drops to 8-16

I think Red/Black is a great core to have as a component of "evilness". The third color gives you different flavors of villainy.
-
Malik, Grim Manipulator - Especially if the Universes Beyond version isn't your cup of tea.
-
Extus, Oriq Overlord Flip/Awaken the Blood Avatar Flip - For a different flavor of Evil Wizard that isn't Grixis.
-
Anhelo, the Painter / Lord Xander, the Collector - If you want a different flavor of Grixis beyond "Evil Wizard". From having played Anhelo, he's a weird mix of spellslinger and Aristocrats that kinda pushes and pulls between the archetypes.
-
Henzie "Toolbox" Torre - Henzie is more amoral than evil in lore. From consistently playing against my best friend's Henzie deck, this is definitely a commander that can consistently become the arch enemy of games. Highly recommend him for how explosive he can be.
-
Laughing Jasper Flint - Play a bunch of Outlaws and twirl your imaginary mustache. Olivia, Opulent Outlaw adds white and all the support and excellent removal options from it.
-
Prosper, Tome-Bound
- Prosper seems more like an amoral Warlock, than actually evil. Regardless, Prosper has quite a reputation, and can turn into an archenemy at tables. I used to play him, and didn't expect him to get nearly as much Treasure and Impulse/Exile play support as he did since his debut. He could also be a value piece in Jasper Flint or Olivia, since Warlocks are Outlaws.
-
Jon Irenicus, Shattered One - Another different flavor of Evil Wizard. Can be a fun kind of evil depending on the creatures you donate to your opponents.
Just a handful of options I can think of off the top of my head.

Terrenos de Don Windgrace [Retired]

Thanks for the suggestions UltimateRoxas40. I think I have a copy of Thespian's Stage around, but I'd need to pick up/proxy Dark Depths. I'm currently running Vesuva to help me double up those on those Field of the Dead triggers.
Braids, Arisen Nightmare is probably one of my favorite new cards of the past year. I played her for that exact reason in the Zimone and Dina deck that I converted into this one. I love the flexibility on what you can sac to her.
If you bring yours out of retirement, I'll be keeping an eye out for your updates. I'm excited to play this deck and have it become a part of my regular rotation, but I have this nagging feeling that there will be some new Jund legend in the Thunder Junction set that I'll want play instead lol.

Henzie and the big creatures
I don't have any personal experience using or facing Henzie, so I might be overlooking something, but this is what I can offer.
Conduit of Worlds allows you to cast a creature from your graveyard each turn, as does Chainer, Nightmare Adept. These will let you recycle blitzed cards, and you can pay their blitz cost for them.
I might suggest adding a couple more sacrifice effects. Henzie "Toolbox" Torre's in kind of an unusual space for a commander: you want to cast it repeatedly to get the biggest discount possible, but the commander tax builds up quickly. Myth Unbound is worth considering to help with that. Burnt Offering can turn a discounted blitzed creature into more discounted blitzed creatures.
This is a pretty good looking deck where it's at.

Henzie "Toolbox" Torre seems made for that, or maybe Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded if you want to keep it mono red.

Marchesa, The Black Rose - Primer

Thank you for the detailed response Lokotor, I appreciate it. I totally missed your Notable Exclusions section last night. It was fairly late and I was chatting with a friend about some of his brewing ideas. I'll check it out in more detail. I enjoy reading through detailed primers with updates from played experiences.
Atsushi is an exciting card. I've enjoyed it as Casualty 2 target in my Anhelo deck, and recommended it to my friend for his Henzie "Toolbox" Torre deck.

Best Commanders in EDH [Tier List] Part 1
3 years ago
Nonary27 There are a lot of competitive/fringe competitive commanders in both sets.
New Capenna
Lagrella, the Magpie serves as Fiend Hunter in the command zone, letting you do sacrifice combos with Karmic Guide. She'll probably end up somewhere close to Saffi Eriksdotter.
Cormela, Glamour Thief combos with reanimator spells like Footsteps of the Goryo as long as you have cost reduction cards like Goblin Electromancer or a sac outlet that generates mana. I think she's pretty strong. Anhelo, the Painter is a grixis version of Kalamax, the Stormsire. Probably the best of the new Grixis commanders. Evelyn, the Covetous is weaker than it looks. I don't think there is an infinite blink/flicker/cloning combo piece that's also a vampire. Probably not better than Vela the Night-Clad, even with the extra color. Lord Xander, the Collector has a big impact on casual tables, but is nowhere near as relevant in competitive play. Would put him somewhere close to Evelyn.
Falco Spara, Pactweaver is an okay value engine, but you have to jump through extra hoops to go infinite with it compared to Elsha of the Infinite, so it will be a few tiers lower than Elsha. Rigo, Streetwise Mentor has to compete with Edric, Spymaster of Trest, they want to do more or less the same thing. I'm not sure if Rigo is better or worse.
Ognis, the Dragon's Lash does the same as Grand Warlord Radha. You get an extra color, but have the restriction regarding haste in exchange. Henzie "Toolbox" Torre is just a bad Grim Haruspex that can serve as pseudo-haste-enabler. Not weak, but also not very strong. Rocco, Cabaretti Caterer is a Wargate for creatures in the command zone. Might be the strongest Naya legend to date, although Marath, Will of the Wild is no joke either. Jolene, the Plunder Queen enables untap combos with Black Market Tycoon, but it just ends up being a much worse version of the Freed from the Real combos that other commanders can do.
None of the others are worth mentioning imo.
Commander Legends 2
Abdel Adrian, Gorion's Ward is similar to Lagrella, all about Fiend Hunter-type flicker/sacrifice combos. Candlekeep Sage is probably the best background for it. Alaundo the Seer is a simic version of Jhoira of the Ghitu, except that it's slower, but also draws cards. Bhaal, Lord of Murder is more or less an Odric's Outrider in the command zone, but that it only counts for nontoken creatures means you can't combo with Scurry Oak, so it's probably not that great. I think Duke Ulder Ravengard combos with Port Razer?
Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy sort of gives all your instants & sorceries flashback, which is usually very powerful. Not sure how good it ends up being in practice however. Ganax, Astral Hunter is basically just Galazeth Prismari. Kagha, Shadow Archdruid is yet another Golgari recursion commander, which are usually at least decent. Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter goes infinite with Clock of Omens and Liquimetal Coating.
Baba Lysaga, Night Witch, Bane, Lord of Darkness, Dynaheir, Invoker Adept, Gorion, Wise Mentor and Jaheira, Friend of the Forest have a lot of combo potential, but I'm not sure how to break them yet.
