Boy I completely overlooked the Boros Charm in there already. slap back of head
I think I'm going to drop the coin on this today and go ahead and build it. I have the dual lands, so only a few should cost me.
Good luck in future tournies!

Doing a good bit of playing online (I built the deck today)... I think champion is out of place in here. I'm going to think about replacing him.
Maybe with Vexing Devil , Legion Loyalist , or Stromkirk Noble

Pay, so u have hard times against Aurelia, and serenity. So suggest warleader's helix sb against naya midrange, and some sort of exile spell for serenity. She is deff the best card in standard, and really hard to get around. Even exiling her, you have to start over basically. Pain in the ass, which is why I will play her. I like your updates! Looking good brutha! Come on down to my page and check out my DGM updated Dark Angel Naya!!! Peace

RedZebra, I understand that it's the best in a human deck, but this isn't what I would consider a full onslaught of humans. Play testing it against everything plus the kitchen sink online, if you don't draw him, he's basically a dead weight card mid game or if you get pushed further.
I'm leaning toward running Vexing Devil over him. I may come back to him, but unless you're running a full Naya Humans or something like the Knights of the blood oath deck... I don't think he fits.

For those commenting on Champion of the Parish
, it is obviously a fantastic card, but it's true that it was always weaker here than in certain other builds. In the current build, there are 16 humans other than Champion of the Parish
. Assuming we have one Champion of the Parish
in our starting hand, that means we will play an average of 3 humans in the course of the game to boost him. This is less effective than a mono-humans deck, where about 5 boosts will occur.
Until further notice, I would trust bcoots because he has done some actual testing. I haven't done any such testing except against my friend's deck, Ghost Dad's Circus Stampede, but I am playing this exact build in FNM tonight and will adjust accordingly after its conclusion. I still think that Champion of the Parish
is absolutely necessary in this deck because it boosts the power level of our soulbond creatures in the early game.
If he doesn't do anything relevant, I will likely end up cutting Tajic, Blade of the Legion and return to a faster build with Boros Elite . I also have an idea for a full overhaul of the deck that may prove very interesting if I choose to do it. Spoiler: it involves Legion's Initiative .

Jim, I'm still playing online and honestly am fairing very well with the deck. I don't want people to misjudge what I'm saying. I'm just reporting back what's going on when I play.
I have left Champ in there for for now as well, just to keep playing it out. So far I've played about 12 matches and only lost 1. If that's worth anything to anyone. Only lost to a Naya Human Blitz deck where I got land screwed and just wasn't to keep up.
Here's the thing in the playing I've done with the champ. There are some matches where I'm like "Oh hells to the yeah, he ain't going nowhere"... then another match I don't draw him first hand and he comes out turn 5 and I'm like... "Dang it, any card but that one".
So for now, that's where I stand. After I play this a few days this way, I will put in Vexing Devil next week, or really my mind is liking Legion Loyalist too. Play those out as much as I have this one so far and just see what I feel is better against the average matchup.

Also Jim, if I am bothering you by talking on this comment thread so much just let me know. I've been told I talk to much before so, yeah.
Took some notes this time so I could give a better detail of some of the matches I was up against and the results.
Match 1 - 2-0 vs. GBW He was playing Blood Artist and Deathrite Shaman . He never got anything out to compete really.
Match 2 - 2-0 vs. GW Chronomaton Serra Angel Those were the only two cards I seen of his in this match besides lands. Total destruction.
Match 3 - 2-0 GR Something...This match had a few Flinthoof Boar and a Rubblebelt Raiders I spotted a couple times. We swapped back and forth one game due to my lack of mana, but ended it both times before he could.
Match 4 - 2-1 Mono W AngelsHe had a big disadvantage here because of the sheer cost of his creatures to cast. He did get out a Serra Angel once and then launched a Increasing Devotion in my face. That cost me the game. Hellrider came in and did work, along w/ Boros Reckoner in this matchup though...
Match 5 - 2-0 GWB He was running a Invisible Stalker along with some other flying 3/2 unblockable multicolored creature that I forgot to write the name down to. Game 1 was pretty entertaining... he landed invisible stalker, followed by a Rancor then a Ethereal Armor and swung and thought he had the game in the bag. However, I landed a Tajic, Blade of the Legion tied to a Lightning Mauler and it went downhill fast from there.
Match 6 - 2-0 GW Selesnya TokensJust jumped on him to quick. By the time his populate engine was ready to bust, it was way to late. He ended up conceding both times.

+1 From me, tried out this deck at my local FNM and swamped the competition with a 4-0 win. Thank you very much for constructing it and I'll keep play-testing! If strong enough definitely bringing it to my local Premium tournaments, I love Boros soooo much.
May 11, 2013 1:16 a.m.
Match 1: 2-0 Angels deck, my opponent couldn't get steamMatch 2: 2-0 Weirdest deck i've seen so far in standard constructed, blue mill with the use of unblockables like Invisible Stalker
and artifacts like Trepanation Blade
and Consuming Aberration
.Match 3: 2-1 vs a mono-white. It was a very strong match-up but I got lucky both times I had the play. Match 4: Massively paired down, was the only undefeated. -> 2-1 vs a VICIOUS mill control deck. Specifically he wanted to get infinite mana with Axebane Guardian
and Galvanic Alchemist
then Increasing Confusion
for mill win and fog effects to control all damage. He managed it game 1 (he was on the play) with an intense amount of mana flooding on my side (20 turns or so, I got to 13 lands with 4 from hand. It was bad). Game 2 and 3 after sideboarding Assemble the Legion
, Oblivion Ring
and Skullcrack
(skullcrack was definitely the most valuable card here). I'll see how it fares vs the pro players on Sunday/Monday tourneys then report back!
May 11, 2013 1:28 a.m.
I did do some things differently than your deck. Specifically I don't have 2 Ajani, Caller of the Pride or 2 Tajic, Blade of the Legion or 3 Searing Spear or 3 Frontline Medic so how I coped was I had 2 Thatcher Revolt which does WONDERS for champs or hellrider attacks, 1 additional Boros Charm and I also used 2 Cavern of Souls instead of 5 mountains (so 3 instead) because I have learned the hard way that the counter aspect is REALLY powerful and useful. I also kept 2 Mikaeus, the Lunarch and 1 searing spear.
May 11, 2013 1:41 a.m.
Thanks Red. I am still going to play test it this way for awhile. I mean I'm winning matches so it's hard to say but, if I see it's falling short more than it's helping out, I may dump Legion Loyalist in here and give it a go.
May 11, 2013 5:42 p.m.
Crazy I've lived in Orlando past 7yrs didn't even know of The Game Academy (typically play at scifi city / coolstuff) - anyway I've been struggling to make just a straight Boros deck and love what you've put together how do you feel about cards like Spark Trooper or Ash Zealot - I hope you'll take on the challenge of trying to make it work again when innistrad gets phased out.
May 11, 2013 8:53 p.m.
This deck is strong. I tried it out once more, but I am missing some of the core components, and lost miserably to Jund.

Hey Jimhawk, I'm having difficulty dealing with GW midrange. The turn three Advent of the Wurm and later Increasing Savagery and Rancor is really hard to deal with for me as I can no longer feel safe attacking. Sigarda, Host of Herons with Increasing Savagery is also a very annoying thing to deal with. What do you suggest I sideboard in for this kind of matchup?
May 15, 2013 9:29 p.m.
Threaten
effects are ideal against midrange strategies. I only run the two Zealous Conscripts
and also two Oblivion Ring
for universal removal in these situations. If you expect to play a high amount of midrange decks, adding more threaten effects such as Mark of Mutiny
will be very effective. The problem with Sigarda, Host of Herons
is, however, irreconcilable for this deck. Glaring Spotlight
isn't worth the slots at the moment until Bant Hexproof starts to gain greater footing the in meta.
You should feel just fine attacking when you have a Frontline Medic and/or a Blind Obedience .
May 15, 2013 10:34 p.m.
+1 from me, I can't beat this deck. I was thinking of going to FNM with my Golgari Death is Not the End (G/B), but it just can't stand up to something like this. Any ideas?
May 16, 2013 2:51 a.m.
Just tried using this deck in a standard tournament.
Only difference was I had 2 ajani, and 3 searing spears in the main deck.
Out of 17 players, I ended up in top 8...taking 6th place.
Deck played really well, 1st set was against g/r wolves. 2-0 win in my favor, 2nd set was against jund mid range. Lost 0-2, mulligan down to 5 in both games with only 3 drops and land in hand. He also played bonfire of the damned in both games and I didnt have a boros charm to save anyone...but I'm pretty sure I could have taken him if I had better starts...3rd set was against bant auras/hexproof. 2-1 in my favor. Last set was against esper control, 2-0 in my favor.
Overall great deck man, keep it up!
May 16, 2013 4:34 a.m.
Legion Loyalist would do WONDERS versus Junk tokens and Advent of the Wurm ...he also helps Tajic out. Whats not to love <3?
May 16, 2013 7:16 a.m.
I agree, Legion Loyalist
is very good, especially as Junk Tokens begins to grow in popularity. I think it's worth trying out at some point since he does have synergy with Frontline Medic
and Hellrider
, which is the primary interaction in the deck these days. The problem I run into is having to maintain the number of humans to keep Champion of the Parish
effective, but I think I can manage that.
I may try, at some point, -2 Rally the Peasants , -2 Blind Obedience , -1 Ajani, Caller of the Pride for +4 Legion Loyalist and +1 Tajic, Blade of the Legion with the opportunity to fit in a second Tajic by cutting something else, just to test the effectiveness of Legion Loyalist firsthand. Thanks a lot for the suggestion!
May 16, 2013 9:41 a.m.
Also, thanks for the positive feedback acbodoh. It is unfortunate that bad draws will just happen sometimes, especially in a deck like this that really stretches its land count to the brink based on its reliance on 3-drops. I had a similar issue in my only loss in the last FNM to Esper Control where I was stuck on two lands in both games for an extended period of time.
May 16, 2013 9:52 a.m.
Would Legion Loyalist be better sideboarded? I really liked the strain Blind Obedience put on my opponent, especially when they were running Aggro decks. Just a thought.
May 21, 2013 3:23 p.m.
I also really liked the usage of Blind Obedience . I'm still not sure what the better option is between it and Legion Loyalist since I haven't really done enough testing with the latter, but Blind Obedience has had proven success for me, so I may switch back to it.
Jimhawk says... #1
Attack into them. That's what aggro decks do. You should never care about evasion, only about the potential blockers or removal your opponent has. If you're playing an aggro deck and you're thinking, "How will I be able to block his Restoration Angel ?", then you're already dead.
I've killed countless Restoration Angel s and Angel of Serenity s just by attacking and forcing chump blocks. So that's how I deal with them.
