This is the first deck I bought in modern and my main deck to this day even after years of playing.

Extended description:

Creatures

Show

• Anafenza, the Foremost: A really impressive body given her low mana cost. Also gives us the ability to buff creatures that attack with her, and exile opposing creatures that hit the graveyard. Particularly useful against reanimator / living end / dredge.
  
• Loxodon Smiter : We want to be aggressive here so a 4/4 for 3 mana is very welcome. The fact that it cannot be countered is a nice bonus when facing Delver or Control decks with , furthermore the fact that it gets played instead of discarded is really useful against 8Rack or opposing Liliana of the Veils.
• Scavenging Ooze: This card has 4 main functions. 1) To provide lifegain against aggressive decks. 2) To hose reanimator and dredge strategies with its graveyard exile. 3) To pressure the opponent in the early game. 4) To take advantage of full graveyards in the late game in order to become a game winner.
• Siege Rhino: The obvious point is that the body is impressive and so can block and attack very effectively in order to end the game. The trample is relevant against decks that use small tokens. The lifegain and lifeloss is relevant against aggressive decks or board stalls.
• Tarmogoyf: Able to provide impressive damage in the early game, or become a monster over time as graveyards become full. The true appeal is having access to a 5/6 creature that costs 2 mana.
• Tasigur, the Golden Fang: Matches the efficiency of Tarmogoyf because it can be cast for just 1 mana. The body is impressive enough to threaten most decks, and the graveyard recursion ability is a welcome addition.

Instants

• Abrupt Decay: Hits almost everything relevant in modern and can't be countered which is a huge bonus against decks that mix threats with control cards.
• Path to Exile: Hits literally every creature in modern, even those with indestructible, and exiles which stops graveyard combo shenanigans.

Sorceries

Show

• Inquisition of Kozilek: Lets you see the opponents hand and acts like a proactive removal spell in a way. Hits almost every relevant threat in modern - even noncreatures, unlike removal spells.
• Lingering Souls: Provides 4 chump blockers when behind or 4 power in the air when ahead. Either way - this is really useful. Is also a good buffer against opposing 'sacrifice a creature' effects because losing a 1/1 is a lot less painful than a 5/6 Tarmogoyf.
• Maelstrom Pulse: A failsafe card more than anything else - used to mop up remaining permanents that cannot be answered with Path to Exile or Abrupt Decay. Certainly not the best card in the deck but always reliable.
• Thoughtseize: 1 mana and 2 life to rob the opponent of the best card in their hand. Enough said. Very potent against combo decks that might rely on just a single card to tie the entire combo together.

Planeswalkers

• Liliana of the Veil: Use the +1 to aggressively attack the opponents hand while discarding cards you do not particularly mind discarding such as Lingering Souls or land. The -2 is the selling point. Essentially Liliana is extremely useful because she allows you to kill multiple creatures with her over extended periods of time. The ultimate can win games but you will not be using it so much.
• Garruk Wildspeaker: A criminally under-rated card that we use here as a way to commit a threat to the board without necessarily using all our mana. His +1 allows you to untap two lands which essentially allows him to be played for 2 mana. After untapping you can then play whatever else you like. The -1 is a good source of pressure against decks that rely on creatures or 1-for-1 removal, given that he gives us a seemingly infinite number of tokens. Finally the -4 works exceedingly well in ending games, particularly with evasive threats like Lingering Souls' spirit tokens. One amazing line of play that Garruk Wildspeaker allows is turn 3 Lingering Souls, into turn 4 Garruk Wildspeaker and +1 to untap two lands and flashback Lingering Souls, and then -4 on turn 5 to swing with 4 flying, 4/4 tokens. Should be game at that point.
