MATCH REPORT

Pretty terrible week at FNM for me.

Match report won't be so long this time.

2-1 Red White Equipped Humans and Allies

Played my partner StuBi in the first match.

Killed him quickly first game.

In the second game he got in for early damage with Weapons Trainer, equipped it with True-Faith Censer to make it hit for even more, then finished me off with Burn from Within.

In the third game I killed all of his Creatures and then had Sorin, Grim Nemesis and Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet go to town and keep doing constant damage until he was dead.

Red Green Wolves 0-2

I got mana screwed the first game and his Wolves got away and overran me.

In the next game I got colour screwed, and the same thing happened. I had Declaration in Stone in hand, but kept drawing Swamps and Westvale Abbey  Flip. The turn after I lost I flipped over the top card. It was a Plains. DOH!

0-2 Blue Black Control

I learnt tonight that my deck isn't very good against Counter spells. It was tricky to make things stick, even when my Opponent was tapped.

Both games I had to keep losing life to do things, until I got down too low and was finished off.

There were cards I was hoping would fall into hand, but it was not to be.

Second game he got Thing in the Ice  Flip to flip and I was dead in the next couple of turns.

Black White Creatures 1-1

I played a guy who had been playing for a week and hadn't won any games all night. Seeing that I had already lost 2 matches, I let him beat me in the first game.

Second game I got Archangel Avacyn  Flip out on Turn 5, and he let Sorin, Grim Nemesis get out of control. He had a lot of life gain and was on 30 life when I used Sorin's ultimate ability. Next turn I hit him with 30 1/1 Creatures and Avacyn for game.

We ran out of time to play a third game.

I felt that I had a bit of bad luck with my draws tonight, as I had cards in hand but not the mana to play them.

I have readjusted my lands to exchange a Plains for a Swamp, as I kept being coloured-screwed.

We'll see what happens on Game Day.

So I've played with this deck for about 2 weeks now. Some things I've changed that you can keep in mind. I got rid of the 4 caves, some games I was eating away at my life way to quickly before my opponent would even hit me. I put 4 Evolving Wilds, 2 Forsaken Sanctuary, I got rid of one abbey and one swamp. The wilds helps get delirium for To the Slaughter since you don't have many creatures. I also took out 2 Duress and one anguish for 3 Read the Bones. I was stuck at 1 or no cards and didn't have my draw triggers out, especially against b/w/u. Make sure you go to the restroom before the event. You don't get a break.. Ever

Schmuckey different play groups give different results. My local meta is weird, and that's the one I've kept in mind when building this deck.

I've got no doubt that it needs to be tweaked by others to match their meta/play style.

I played this in a tournament for the first time tonight.

I never ran out of cards in my hand in any of my games. In fact I was often discarding extra cards at the end of my turn.

Apart from one match that went super long, my other matches were the first finished each round.

Life loss was only a problem for me in one match. I am VERY used to playing with Pain lands, though.

I hope that your version was fun for you to play. What were your results? I went 3-1. Detailed Match Report is in the Update.

April 15, 2016 12:46 p.m. Edited.

You totally got screwed in the one you lost. Always Watching only enhances nontoken creatures.

Argy says... #4

Actually, he might have said that.

It's good for me to keep in mind anyway, so thanks for pointing that out ancientgorillashaman.

He had an Artifact out that was pumping up his Tokens as well. The one that flips.

The games were quite complex at some points.

AgentGreen says... #5

You definitely got hosed; Always Watching affects nontoken. If he led you to believe it does both he's A) Essentially cheating and B) Exploiting your...I should say....niceness

Part of it was your fault for not being aware of it; so if you run into that again down the road; be aware that Watching does NOT affect token creatures

AgentGreen you didn't read my response that I got that wrong and he didn't say that for Tokens, he used an equipment on them.

It was my first time playing against that card. If you think I'm going to know every card intimately, think again.

I pulled people up on a lot of misplays last night. Nothing to do with me being "nice", everything to do with me being inexperienced in regard to that card.

AgentGreen says... #7

I think I was typing that and working at the same time. So I didn't catch your response. I apologize.

Having said that I am close on getting what I need to finish this deck, and finding 4 Glimmervoids from my old affinity deck from 10+ years ago should help pay for what I need

April 16, 2016 8:57 a.m.

Argy says... #8

Well I can tell you that it played perfectly for me, note for note, so I hope it does as well for you.

My meta isn't hugely competitive, though.

I'm in Tokyo this week so I might take it out for a play. I believe most players are very competitive there.

April 17, 2016 12:58 a.m.

AgentGreen says... #9

I'm short a few cards and they won't get here before an SCG event, so I'm going to swap the missing components out with Eldrazi cards.

April 17, 2016 12:40 p.m.

Argy says... #10

If you're swapping them for Kalitas you are screwed.

His Lifelink and ability to make Zombies are essential.

April 18, 2016 4:54 a.m.

AgentGreen says... #11

Well I have 2 Kalitas; and I'll be stripping down my existing deck to inject the

That begs the question; is the Abby required or "nice to have"

April 18, 2016 9:27 a.m.

Argy says... #12

I would say you can play with Blighted Fen instead of the Abbey.

However, if you're playing against a deck which has a lot of removal, Shambling Vent and the Clerics made by the Abbey become very important.

Your Opponent can also kill the Vent, but they can't kill the Abbey unless you flip it, which I never do.

Without any Creatures to help, your only Win Con is Sorin, Grim Nemesis' first and ultimate abilities.

April 18, 2016 11:37 a.m.

AgentGreen says... #13

And having a single win con is not a great deckbuilding

I have one Abby; just the one, I'll use that and hope to get a 2nd one.

I'm going to sit down tonight and start assembling the deck; once I get it done I'll throw it here

April 18, 2016 2:06 p.m.

Gideon over Ob Nix.
