Niko9 on Is the only problem with …

FormOverFunction Yep : ) My old lifegain deck does have some favorite cards like Selenia, Dark Angel but what I didn't really think about was that when I play somebody, some decks just have no answer for mass lifegain, and that feels terrible for me. It's like my opponent will either get under the soul sisters and kill me, or they won't and I eventually pump a big Bloodthirsty Aerialist, but no matter what I'm doing the same thing every time and it's super boring.

Pump effects targeting a Beloved Princess though? Just to reverse the pressure of somebody's hyper efficient new cards? I'm finding it sooooooooo useful : )

And really, a big part is probably just that I'm not buying new cards anytime soon, so I'm really getting a lot of miles out of the old binders and things, and trying things that I didn't think were very good, just to try them.

Sorry I brought Storage Lands up if you've got such bad memories of them!

My 2 cents is that you probably can keep some of the better low to the ground ramp to help get to the more splashy options online, having only high MV ramp with a relatively low land count might not work ideally, having some faster rocks will lead to some games where you have an early Sol Ring into a Thran Dynamo!

I totally understand not wanting infect, it's just hard to not mention something with that level of synergy, I often struggle with 'deck flavor vs powerful cards' problem, nice to see you've got a great handle on it! I guess Inquisitor's Flail has a bit more of a flavor win, since the flail theoretically bops the creature for double as well, but with Protection it won't come up.

If you want to encourage people to attack there is always Angel's Trumpet, this also punishes people for not playing the game you want them to. Nemesis Mask would be avoiding using your Commander for damage and might have some flavor win to it (not only can all of your other attackers get in, Teysa gets to deal her damage to any blocker you want, Banding aside, so you can potentially kill off some utility creatures with each swing), it lets you make use of Vigilance without dealing Commander damage!

If you like paying life Kothophed, Soul Hoarder will let you pay a ton of life/live fast, the better the decks people play the more cards you'll end up drawing. I'm really trying to avoid the 'commander damage' thing, but what about Hatred? You pay life and remove a player who needs to be gone ASAP, then switch life? I could see that being too 'Voltron' for your tastes, but maybe it's on flavor enough to get a pass?

I've heard of people building this type of deck around Selenia, Dark Angel before, maybe she'd work in the 99 to pay life with something like Axis of Mortality's trigger on the stack? She's also an evasive and can protect herself, so she's not 1 dimensional, but a 3/3 isn't very big in Commander!

Hope this stuff isn't too voltron-y for you!

OxygenDestroyer65 on Using Fortitude to sack lands

Can I use Fortitude to sacrifice as many lands as I want all at once? I wanted to use it in my Titania, Voice of Gaea  Meld deck to load my graveyard up at instant speed to meld her, but I wasn't sure if I was missing something in relation to how regeneration works. I assumed its like how you can pay as much life as you want with Selenia, Dark Angel. Thanks for the help!

Necrosis24 Anything that wins with phasing is just amazing : ) I like it!

Oh and one I've managed to do a few times in my lifegain deck is Selenia, Dark Angel + Sanguine Bond + Tainted Sigil It's nice because each part works well in the deck on it's own, and I don't want to run many copies of any of the three, so it's just every once in a blue moon that it comes together and those are the kind of crazy "I win" combos that I like.

Hi there friend, nice deck brew! I really love the lich theme.

I have a few recomendations for you:

-Ranger-Captain of Eos could be great to tutor for Viscera Seer and also to protect your combos twice.

-Selenia, Dark Angel could help you get to the lich state of no life.

-Eidolon of Blossoms and Welcoming Vampire can be a great draw engines.

-Greater Auramancy can be a good protection.

-Thalia, Heretic Cathar to slow your opponents.

I'm brewing a Myrkul enchantress deck, when it's up in tappedout it would be great to hear your suggestions.

See you :)

Niko9 on Impactful Lifegain to improve black …

I do love a good lifegain deck : ) The one I built a while back is a variation of 60 card soul sisters with Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant gaining me life from Lingering Souls or afterlife creatures like Seraph of the Scales or Orzhov Enforcer all to power up a Bloodthirsty Aerialist

Revival / Revenge is a great versatile card, and my favorite lifegain combo is to use Selenia, Dark Angel with Sanguine Bond and Tainted Sigil Selenia is a great flying blocker that your opponent will never actually get rid of, bond is bond : ) and sigil can actually save you in a pinch, but when you put them all together, it's a kill one player combo. Stacking Selenia triggers can be fun when it works : )

But again, I use this in 60 card, so not sure how applicable it is to commander. I also really like Ivory Tower or Sun Droplet just for constant gain effects for Bloodthirsty Aerialist but I'm not sure if it would work in EDH.

Best of luck with the deck! Looks pretty awesome.

Niko9 on Convoluted Combos

AstroAA Yep, Selenia, Dark Angel is just a fun card : ) I enjoy that just the fact that you can stack her trigger and lose more life can be a combo piece. Plus, it's really nice to have a "game over" button in a lifegain deck that can kinda prattle on sometimes.

Still nothing on your combo though : ) The effort to flow cart it legit made me smile. You're awesome!

Niko9 on Convoluted Combos

Ha, that is definitely a convoluted combo, but that kind of makes it so much more awesome : ) And I like that a lot of the pieces are just good cards, so it's not like you are running them just for the combo.

I'm definitely not quite pushing it that far, but I really like a combo of Tainted Sigil+ Sanguine Bond in my Selenia, Dark Angel lifegain deck. If you get both into play, and have more life than an opponent, then Selenia triggers you down to 1 life, gain it back with tainted sigil, and that's a damage bomb headed their way. It almost never works, but I do enjoy that it can work : )
