OUT

It has been a long while since my last update. Four cards were target banned at Zurgo since the last update, Sulfuric Vortex, Price of Progress, Fireblast and Eidolon of the Great Revel were all banned. I won't say too much on the justifications of the bans, other than some of the Rules Committee's reasons were very poorly stated, something about the singleton nature of the format and the inability to play around a few of the cards that were legitimately powerful in the deck. In general I think that the Zurgo deck is, or should I say say was very beatable with some deck building changes, "losing to Price too much?", play a less greedy deck, "can't beat Vortex?", play a catch all answer, "Fireblast killing you too often?" play some more lifegain, "Eidolon too painful?", play more removal. However the Rules Committee felt otherwise, and added some of Zurgo's most powerful tools to the ban list.

As far as personal changes are concerned, I have cut Brazen Scourge and Flame Rift for the time being. In their places, I have added Rampaging Ferocidon as an anti-lifegain card, as well as some hate for the twin style combo's, of which have recently become popular locally. Nest Robber, which is yet another 2/1 haste for 2, which is the exact type of card I look for. I have also added Lava Dart, Arc Trail and Seal of Fire as there are an uptick in tiny creature decks as well as dork decks. Finally Smuggler's Copter is back in as it is a fantastic card, it play around wraths and is some flood insurance, also it flies which is useful in a blocker heavy metagame. Copter was cut originially because it feels best when you use a summoning sick creature to crew it and effectively give a creature "haste" for the turn, seeing as most of my creatures already had haste, I decided to cut it, however that was a mistake because the cards is just too powerful to have sitting on the sidelines.

I don't really play this deck nearly as much as I used to, however I will try to keep up with it and maybe I will take it out for a spin when my meta has all but forgotten about it.

sagartomar99 hey sorry for getting back to you so late! This deck is sort of all in on the atog combo and has very little threat count besides that. The meta is so control/removal heavy so it is tough unless the stars align and you get the right cards at the right time. I'm trying to tinker with adding more threats in the form of Brazen Scourge and I have realized my sideboard is really bad. I need to a lot more testing but I think I've made some decent adjustments. Any tips or thoughts would be very appreciated :)

I think Pia Nalaar tries to do too much. If you're building around tokens you should take more cards like Shamble Back, Hanweir Garrison or even Doomed Dissenter but you'll still have a disadvantage against other token-decks with for example Anointed Procession (which is white). Else think nontoken creatures are generally more worth it. Just a sidenote: if you want the unblockable, I'd suggest cards like Magmatic Chasm, Voldaren Duelist or Cartouche of Zeal. If you want the bumping, I'd go for creatures like Ember-Eye Wolf or Lavastep Raider. If you want both in one card: Retreat to Valakut

Leatherankh was also right by saying you should speed up your clock, so Gonti, Lord of Luxury and Walking Ballista are better replaced by cards like Incendiary Flow for burn or cards like that Ember-Eye Wolf or Brazen Scourge for rush damage. Another card I love that you could consider as a finisher is Hijack. It gives you a strong enemy creature, removes a blocker and can thus really do a whole lot in a lot of situations. (it's also hillarious to play on giant creatures like Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger)

Add a playset of Aether Hub it will help with your Dynavolt Tower and the Harnessed Lightning, I think also that Lathnu Hellion would be better than Brazen Scourge

Looks pretty good, welcome to the site! I just have a few quick comments.

Not a huge fan of Lathnu Hellion. I've found he lasts for a turn or two at most and if they have a blocker he can't get damage through.

Lightning Axe good card when you can take advantage of the discard bit but i'm not sure if this deck can. I'm worried that more often then not you will have to effectively spend 2 cards to deal with one creaure. I think between the other 10 instants in the deck you already have more than enough removal and should be fine to cut them.

Prized Amalgam: other than scrapheap you can't actually trigger him making him just a 3 mana 3/3 a lot of the time (its also your only blue card and casting it might get tricky)

Sideboard stuff: If you cut some of those cards you have room in your main deck for Arlinn Kord  Flip and Pia Nalaar in the main deck. I'd also try to add in some more aggressive cards like Brazen Scourge. Hope this helps!

Not sure if Workshop Assistant and Fireforger's Puzzleknot are as efficient in the deck. I might be tempted to replace them with Brazen Scourge or Fateful Showdown. Admittedly they arent artifacts but i think they do more by themselves that the first two m=I mentioned.

Saheeli doesn't really seem worth making your mana a lot worse with a bunch of taplands, slowing down the aggro curve this deck wants. You also have Aetherworks Marvel, but there's nothing that is really making that card worth it. It'll probably work out significantly better just using the 6 energy activating Hydra twice, or making Voltaic huge, or keeping the Hellion beats coming. Plus, you don't have to run bad cards like the Puzzleknots to enable it if you cut it. Cutting Saheeli, Puzzleknots, and Marvel for basically any low cost creature or pump spell seems noticeably better. Longtusk Cub, Servant of the Conduit, Brazen Scourge, moving the Blossoming Defenses main. Hell, I think I like Scythe Leopard more.
