Vivien's Grizzly

Creature — Bear Spirit

: Look at the top card of your library. If it's a creature or planeswalker card, you may reveal it and put it into your hand. If you don't put the card into your hand, put it on the bottom of your library.

+1!

Above are all great suggestions! (expensive tho)

I would run 38 lands and 10-12 ramp that are all cmc 2 to see turn 3 Carth most of the time.

The enchantments feel odd to me. I'd cut them.

-1 Cunning Rhetoric -1 Pestilence -1 Sandwurm Convergence -1 The Eldest Reborn

-1 Vivien's Grizzly... too mana intensive -1 Vengeful Pharaoh... if you're not milling this, its not worth

Cut some boardwipes. Think about how often you want to cast them in a game. I'd run 4.

For planeswalkers I like to run each one that makes a token or reanimates a creature.

I'm a fan of +1 Elephant Grass.

And more draw! Stuff like Syphon Mind, Read the Bones, Night's Whisper, maybe even Ancient Craving, Harmonize, etc.

Oakhame Adversary and Ohran Viper are decent rattlesnakes.

Hello there!

I am looking to further improve my teaching deck Teaching Deck - Bear With Me. This time with a sideboard that can be swapped out to either make the next few playthroughs with my students more interesting or perhaps even more challenging (like a "congratulations, you beat level 1" type deal).

Currently I've moved the maybeboard of cards I've taken out of the deck into the sideboard. I think having Ashcoat Bear is important for its Flash ability, but also Vivien's Grizzly might be good if I can toss some relevant Planeswalkers in there which is something I realized I had left out of my teaching plans. Do you guys think I should just maybe run some Viviens to stay on theme or is there a better planeswalker you can think of that would go with this deck's synergy?

You could kick out one Vivien's Grizzly and one Flaxen Intruder to fit in two Werebear.

Gladehart Cavalry and Sandsteppe Mastodon don't seem to be doing a lot for you. In low budget games grind is the name of the game and you're severely lacking in draw power. Even something simple like Lead the Stampede can push you ahead in the game. Camaraderie is likely 10x better than either Biogenic Upgrade or Incremental Growth.

Other options include Duskwatch Recruiter  Flip, Vivien's Grizzly. Mana outlets like this help you pull ahead when everyone else has either dumped their hands.

Evolutionary Escalation can also easily replace any or your more synergy based +1/+1 counter generators and your commander has a super secret mode of stealing the counters from the opponent's creature.

Evolving Wilds and Terramorphic Expanse are also suspiciously missing.

I feel like this needs to lean harder into the +1/+1 counters theme, or lean into 'bear value' rather than 'bear aggro'.

Universal Automaton would help a bit with the aggro gameplan, as would Metallic Mimic / Adaptive Automaton . Ashcoat Bear is a flat upgrade.

Vivien's Grizzly points to a value gameplan, but it calling for creatures/plainswalkers is a little limiting.

G/(u) offers another option- Treasure Hunt . If your deck is treasure hunt, ayla, influence, reliquary tower, then islands/forests, you can spit out a lot of bears.

Jamming black and just running a ton of hand disruption/carddraw is a strong option. Duress looks less awful when you can fight any creature they play.

Flaxen Intruder might be worth it in the sideboard.

Good luck with the brew. Ayla feels strong enough to carry the entire tribe on her own.

$500 deck for "casual" play? yikes.

Cavern of Souls is useless because you don't include any other colors for creatures here. Nurturing Peatland / Windswept Heath is also unnecessary when you could just play the cycling lands from Amonkhet/ Tranquil Thicket (if that's what you're after). For a more casual deck, you can leave out Collected Company in favor of Winding Way . Vivien's Grizzly Also helps you get more creatures out.

You could do with some more removal effects than Ayula's fight ability. Prey Upon or Rabid Bite would serve you well.
