FNM Tournament —Aug. 18, 2017

So the deck didnt do very well.(because of miss plays mostly) a friend let me borrow a Supreme Verdict and a Detention Sphere so i had the amount i needed.

First round(0-2)- first round was against R/U storm. First game i lost quickly. He got a storm count of 23 before casting a Grapeshot and ending it there. 2nd game i cast Nevermore and stopped grapeshot, but later died to the other win con (forgot the name of card. Puts goblins into play).

Round 2(bye)

Round 3(0-2)- played against mono-red goblins. First game i stalled till around turn 7, i wasnt drawing into heliod or the sigil at all. He eventually wom with Goblin Grenade. 2nd game he flooded the field before i could get my protection.

For fun game- i played against my friends full colorless tron deck. First game he got urza activated before i could Spreading Seas. He got Chalice of the Void at mana cost 1,3,and 5. Shutting my nevermores and spheres out. He then won. Next game i spreading eas 3 of his urza lands while casting detention sphere on the chalice before he had one for cost 3. But i still later lost to Walking Ballista

If you want to be mean drop the walls and add Porphyry Nodes, with Heliod this creates a lock where your opponent always has to have their creature destroyed in most circumstances.

You also want to have some win-cons, I would personally play Luminarch Ascension and Gideon of the Trials, but budget you can play Starfield of Nyx or Sigil of the Empty Throne.

Hmm, may go with luminarch as i'm not too sure about the stsrfield right now. Making my enchantments into creatures is grest but that also means creature removal can get rid of them.

If i add luminarch i'll have the heliod plus it as a win con. Why would i play the Gideon of the Trials if i may ask?

Also, the way it is set up right now is supposed to be that i get out the main prison cards as usual and use heliods ability for tokens to eventually flood the board

Gideon of the Trials can prevent damage, force your opponent to kill you and him, and he is a relavent attacker at 4/4, he hasn't found his home yet but I have been testing him in mono-white prison and I find him to be useful.

Also, if you played Starfield of Nyx you would want Aura of Silence just in case there is a board wipe.

If you go the angel route you may also want to consider having one Entreat the Angels for the tokens, and then having Elspeth, Sun's Champion in the side to swap win-cons against black decks that target combo.

Relying on Heliod's ability to create tokens is not enough, someone removes Heliod yoy can't really win if you rely too heavily there.

Also you need to reassess your mana-base, you don't really need that many blue sources, just run cheap blue-white duals for your blue sources.

Minihorror227 says... #7

Ya thats true. I forgot about Aura of Silence as well. I might get starfield and that over the other. Should i put 2 of each in and what should i replace?

Were you meaning like how i have it now?

August 7, 2017 12:50 a.m.

Oloro_Magic says... #9

Still a bit heavy on duals but yeah it is better.

I would also add a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to your mana base as most of your cards have double white.

I for some reason keep second guessing this deck lol. all of today I've been wondering if I should still build this the way I have it on here or just go mono white. In mono white I wouldn't have to worry about mana problems, and would still have the main prison cards. I also would not lose any of my win cons as well.

Would it maybe run faster as a mono white deck?

Oloro_Magic says... #11

I have run mono-white prison before honestly there is a big upside to that with Heliod, God of the Sun, the reason to play blue though is Supreme Verdict, Detention Sphere, and most importantly the ability to play Negate in the side, having a counter helps you land your prison pieces which is key.

So i should run W/U? I'd be running Nevermore and Gideon's Intervention no matter what which can get rid of whatever problems i should have.

I would play for the interaction yes.

Title goes here Show

ok, so I need to make a couple changes to the deck.

First change: I just picked up 2 Sigil of the Empty Thrones. What should I replace with them?

Second Change: I also picked up 2 Prairie Streams and 1 Hallowed Fountain. What in the land base should I replace?

Replace Tranquil Cove and Port Town in the mana base, and then replace Peek with the win-con.

Should i replace the Path to Exile? it seems like it would be bad for me to have them search for lands in this type of deck.

August 9, 2017 10:53 a.m.

Oloro_Magic says... #18

Path to Exile is by far the best removal in white so it shouldn't be replaced and as you face more competitive decks they will play less and less basics meaning Path has no downside; it can also be used on one of your creatures so you hit a land drop.

If the land worries you play Leonin Arbiter and/or Aven Mindcensor over Wall of Omens.

August 9, 2017 11:04 a.m.

Minihorror227 says... #19

I may try the Aven Mindcensor, but if you think i wont have any problems then i'm fine with keeping what i have

August 9, 2017 11:34 a.m.

Oloro_Magic says... #20

Usually giving a land isn't bad considering you remove a threat and the more competitive the meta the better path gets so I would keep it for if nothing else competitive matchups.

Awesome, well right now i have most of the cards being ordered or sesrched for. I have all the spheres, telepathy, sigils, and cast outs.

I'll keep you posted on when i get replacements or the cards arrive.

August 9, 2017 12:04 p.m.

Minihorror227 says... #22

Ok, so updated list of what i have:

-have all the Cast Outs

-have all the Sphere of Safetys

-have all the Telepathys

-have all the Path to Exiles

-and finally have all the Journey to Nowheres

I'm still waiting on the rest of the cards. I may replace 1 of the Gideon's Interventions with another sphere as i only 2 so far but found an extra sphere laying around

Oloro_Magic

So as of now i am waiting on only a few cards. Until they get here i have been messing around with a few enchantments i already had.

I have been using Sphinx's Tutelage and Jace's Erasure.

I played a few games against an aggro Merfolk deck. First game i lost due to his removal then second game i milled his deck. Then went into third game and won with Sigil of the Empty Throne.

Is the Tutelage worth at all as another win con (maybe sideboard material?)

August 14, 2017 2:25 a.m.

Oloro_Magic says... #24

Sideboard yes, main no especially if you plan on making this your primary deck, you just never know when you find a Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in the other player's deck.

I played in a draft yesterday and got an Entreat the Angels as one of my cards. What could this replace?
