Creature (1)

Instant (1)

This deck earns its name with a metric fuckton of threats coming at you from all directions. It never has the same game twice (usually) and has a ton of different avenues to victory, while simultaneously giving you a lot of options defensively so that you never feel totally helpless. The amount of removal we have access to as Junk in this meta is incredible(Abrupt Decay, Hero's Downfall, Banishing Light, Vraska the Unseen, Golgari Charm), and there are very few threats that we simply can't handle by cycling our deck with Courser and Connections. This means that our hand destruction with Thoughtseize, Sin Collector and Lifebane Zombie is really just an added bonus in most matchups where we simply cannot let something interact with us. If you like blowing stuff up with a side of Timmy, then this is the right deck.

CREATURES

Advent of the Wurm is basically our blowout creature that we flash in either at the end of their turn or to block something that they thought would get through just fine. The ideal use of this is basically as a removal spell when they're swinging like a maniac into you expecting a kill spell or to just get past a caryatid, or at the end of their turn to give them minimal opportunity to play around it. People leave themselves dead on board to this thing just because they forget it exists. It's great.

Archangel of Thune turns our incidental lifegain from things like Courser of Kruphix and Scavenging Ooze into sheer motherfucking terror incarnate. Normally gaining life is something annoying to the opponent, but with this chick on the field it can get deadly really quickly. Plus the interactions with Blood Baron and Obzedat are obvious here, lifegain rocks and 1/1 counters rock so get both and win the game.

Blood Baron of Vizkopa is a goddamn champion whose biggest strength on his resume is that he simply does not give a damn about anything. His power level in a vacuum is through the roof (except in a world where white or black cards don't exist) and in this deck he's just a monster. Not much to say about this guy. Play him and turn him sideways and just stop caring.

Courser of Kruphix is a four-of in this deck simply because being able to ramp with black and white is the absolute dumbest thing on the face of the planet and the fact that you can do that is reason enough for 4 of these things. First of all, it's a wall that stops problem cards in your early game. Second of all, it gains you life. Third of all, you get to see the look of terror on your opponent's face when you flip over the Blood Baron on the top of your library.

Desecration Demon, A.K.A "Big D" is probably the best 4-drop creature in standard right now next to Polukranos, World Eater. He's a 6/6/6 badass who sort of pops out and MAKES THEM KILL THEIR OWN SHIT. It's ridiculous. The amount of perceived and actual power this guy has earns him a spot in here over card draw (Connections), considering I live in a place where everyone wants to play aggro but nobody wants to have to deal with flying creatures. This way I can have their cake and eat it for them.

Obzedat, Ghost Council is the 5/5 haster with incidental lifegain/drain who just won't quit. He refuses to die. So much so in fact, that he wants your opponent to die just so there is zero chance of him dying ever again. A lot of the time if they can't kill this guy and quick you can just ride him to the finish line and just hold back and blow up their stuff while this guy nets you 7 damage and 2 life each turn.

Scavenging Ooze is absolutely wonderful. He just sort of trundles around in your swamps and eats things and sometimes gets big, sometimes doesn't, whatever. He's chill. He doesn't ask for much, and doesn't need much. If you have an angel on the field, he's a huge deal and can get out of control very quickly, so don't count him out just because he's not 100% sentient.

Lifebane Zombie came in mainboard over Sin Collector because of my meta, and because he's just a guy with an axe who lets me see their hand. He's fun and good and unblockable for the most part, and Collector wasn't hitting as much as I thought he would. Plus I can actually turn him sideways.

Sylvan Caryatid is the ultimate hippie. Just gives out mana to whoever wants it and is also literally a tree. Also it is very hard to get them off of your property. Take that, capitalism!

PLANESWALKERS

Ajani, Mentor of Heroes is amazing and I do not care what anyone says. His home is here among the hippies and health inspectors and in return for a place to live he beefs up your dudes and finds you more hippies and health inspectors. In all seriousness, three counters is huge when you're talking about something like Blood Baron of Vizkopa or Archangel of Thune. His ult is still a threat as well, even if it's not an instant game win.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion works well in grindier matchups. I don't know how much play she'll see mainboard in my meta, but she's good enough to keep her spot regardless. She also demands an answer, more so than Vraska or Ajani, so it's often the right play to just drop her and apply pressure so you can buy yourself some breathing room.

Vraska the Unseen is more of a Blow Shit Up machine than a real win condition on her own, but again, she does demand an answer. The assassins can occasionally be relevant, and nobody really wants you to get them. She and Elspeth are very discretionary though, and while they have earned their spots they might not always be the best play all the time.

INSTANTS / SORCERIES

Abrupt Decay is one of the best removal spells in standard. It hits so much and stays relevant even against non-creature based decks, which is huge for a removal spell that only costs 2 mana. Plus, it's just fun to play. Let's be serious here.

Banishing Light is Detention Sphere except we can run it, which makes it awesome. It's hardly ever a dead draw and taking things out of the game is always relevant.

Hero's Downfall is pretty simple here. Just blow stuff up. Do it. It's fun. Who cares. Blow it up.

This is primarily credited to Jeff Hoogland, who came up with this shell during May 2014 and at the time of writing this is seeing widespread play all across the professional landscape. Much kudos to Hoogland for coming up with this fun and scary pile of cards. Any suggestions and comments are always welcome, but this deck is pretty complete as-is. I'll eventually figure out some post M14 rotation replacements on my own but I feel like this deck will be really resilient to losing M14 compared to others -- the only thing will be the adjustment of some of the cards around the loss of Archangel of Thune, which will sting but not really hurt this deck in the long run, as we'll probably get some good reprints or new cards in either M15 or in the new set.

Updates Add

After playing around with him I've found that Desecration Demon is a beast of a 4 drop and fits the spot that I had originally placed Reaper of the Wilds in. He straight up poops on aggro and goes a long way into securing a position on the board and giving your opponent something to chew on while you get ready to drop another threat on turn 5. He's also less of a dead draw when looking for a win condition if a game starts to drag, whereas Underworld Connections can only help you search further. Still considering sideboarding a connections over my Sin Collectors, but we'll see how that goes. My meta is fairly aggro heavy but I want to have options for control and other midrange, and those matchups seem favorable for me already with the deck being pretty much entirely threats and kill spells of some kind.

Apologies for not giving a rundown of FNM last week, as I didn't actually get the chance to go. Any playtesting has been done on my own time but I'm trying to practice with this deck as much as possible as it's really my favorite so far. Thanks for all the comments and +1's!
