This looks scary similar to Jeff Hoogland's Junk midrange list from StarCityGames Open Indianapolis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gi-EWKhfes

It is, except for some minor alterations in the sideboard and a Sin Collector as opposed to a Lifebane Zombie in the mainboard, as well as a mainboard Vraska. Despite all that I did cite him as the creator of the shell in the last paragraph.

I like the deck, seems to work well. Just curious, how did play the same person twice at FNM? Didn't know that was possible.

UpsetYoMama We played once before top 8 and once after the cut. The only loss of the night he had was to me, so he made the cut pretty easily as there was only about 20 people there at the start. After top 8 he kept winning and we both wound up as top 2. I've had that happen before or seen it happen before, but yeah it's still kinda weird.

I like this deck. I might actually build this deck. I also enjoy your descriptions.

One thing: I wouldn't be too worried about losing Archangel of Thune . Baneslayer Angel was reprinted, so I'd give Archangel a 50/50 shot of making M15.

Also: 20 People, 7 rounds? I've had a 5 round FNM with 40 people.

This deck looks beautiful. Really. I'm gonna +1 the shit out off this decklist

Can't put Ajani counters on Blood Baron because it has pro white, unfortunately.

Your title made me realize Vraska looks a lot like the ghost from that horror movie Mama that came out a few years ago...

How do you link the Unhinged Swamps?

+1 to your deck! I think it's excellent

What's your answer to an opponent's Blood Baron of Vizkopa ? Seems like a bad spot to be in and hard to race against. Maybe Celestial Flare or Devour Flesh in the sideboard?

Okay, lots of comments, haha. jyork1213, you're right, I didn't realize that I put something in there to give that impression but after reading over it I think I found what you're referring to so I'll change that. Thanks.

And she does! That's crazy. I'll have to go watch that movie now, I guess, hah.

And HiddenStrings the way to link cards from specific sets is you just find the set list by searching for the card and just put the 3 letter reference thing in brackets when you're editing the list. So to put the unhinged lands in you'd type "1x Swamp [UNH]" in the list.

Apoptosis Opposing Blood Barons generally can get eaten by an Advent of the Wurm or Elspeth, Sun's Champion . Scavenging Ooze can also go toe to toe with it and I can rip it out of their hand with a Lifebane Zombie or Thoughtseize . Generally nobody plays him where I'm at, either (really just me and my friend playing a similar junk deck who isn't even playing it anymore). That said, I could always drop Sin Collector and jam a Celestial Flare in the board for things like Stormbreath Dragon or Blood Baron.

I played against this deck with mono black devotion and 2-0ed it at FNM

Oh right , advent is a w/g spell, but the worm itself is green. Yea, that eats a blood baron any day!

Congratulations...? Haha. I'm not really sure what to say to that. Mono Black is a good deck, maybe the best in the format right now. I feel like I generally have a pretty good win rate against Mono Black but I'd have no clue what to estimate it as since it's not that popular of a deck around where I am.

This deck is an almost exact copy of a deck that came in first at a tourney played May 4th via magic-league.com. Which predates your posting of this deck.

Anyways + 1

marcosousasr That's interesting, I wasn't aware that site existed. I already gave the source for this deck, though, Jeff Hoogland came up with the shell in the SCG Cincinnati Open on May 3rd. It seems that deck was based on his as well, which is neat. I'd ask them why they weren't running Vraska the Unseen though, haha.

May 20, 2014 1:22 a.m.

My apologies i did not read the excerpt you wrote crediting Jeff Hoogland. Anyways , yes , i really like that site. It's a good way of seeing what is out there. This deck is a beast. I lack too many of the cards to put it together however and it is far from a budget deck. Oh well.

Kinda disappointed to not see a couple of Ram's in the sideboard. They synergize well with angel, and can be a huge pain to get through with an ajani +1. Just a thought. Otherwise, fantastic deck. Would like to see some results about how this plays against actual tier 1 decks, when you get those results, please post them.

If I got courser of Kuroshio out turn three and my next four draws were lands, could I have 7 lands out on turn4?

May 20, 2014 6:03 p.m.

HiddenStrings says... #24

You may only play one land per turn. But this is where people like Eidolon of Blossoms .
