When did I ever say “do not play kill spells in your control deck”? I said that the red removal in standards jeskai control deck is not needed because there are other blue and white cards that can take their roles. Red does give you access to more removal but it is not necessary.

Some control decks like to run four-ofs of cheap early blockers. Take Wall of Omens in modern for example. It protects you and makes you lose no card advantage. Some control decks do like to run cards like this. In this standard Shore Keeper is the closest thing to that. I also said some decks MIGHT be able to make Isolate work, not “every control deck with white should run isolate”

why Wouldn’t you want kill spells in a control deck. I’m very confused.

Baffling End, Isolate, and Shore Keeper? These are not cards control ever wants to play. Baffling End is playable I guess as a one or 2 of in the sideboard (for mono white or Boros Aggro), but the other two are completely and utterly not playable.

Lightning Strike, Shock, Lava Coil, and Shivan Fire aren’t needed and frankly I don’t get why anyone would want these in a Control deck. If you really must play a 3rd color black has better options, but anyway. These all can be replaced with bounce spells such as Blink of an Eye, more counterspells and/or if not already in the deck, Opt. As for more cheap removal, There is Baffling End to get rid of more early plays and some decks may be able to make Isolate work for any pesky one drops. Also a great early blocker is Shore Keeper it can keep early Aggro decks at bay for a time if it is not removed immediately and can generate card advantage late game. Thoughtbound Phantasm could also work if running lots of surveil.

Thanks for the feedback!

The Induced Amnesia + Release to the Wind combo looks interesting, especially because it can be used to mill the opponent or to draw cards yourself. But it would require a bigger reconstruction of the deck, so I will shelve this idea for now.

Shore Keeper, Wall of Mist and Diamond Mare are interesting options. Shore Keeper looks a bit too costly. In my testing, paying the 6 mana for Memorial to Genius was already too costly, because I always needed the mana for my immediate survival and was never able to activate it. Wall of Mist looks rather boring because it cannot trade with early creatures. But Diamond Mare could be very good because of the lifegain. I'll try this one first!

Drop the Phantasm for 3 copies of Shore Keeper if you flood out a bit he can get you a few cards. Not the best one drop but with only three surveil cards in the deck I think there are more valuable options for you. Go all in on mill.

I'm working on a post-rotation Mill deck based around Psychic Corrosion and Patient Rebuilding.

Still gotta see what Ravnica brings us...

Obviously we won't have anything but Ixalan on up, so Amonkhet and Kaladesh cards are not to be included. I'm waiting for some of them juicy Ravnica spoilers to be revealed though because if the deck is going to work we need something from that set to fit it. Especially more draw triggerers.

Mystic Archaeologist is nice.

Surge Mare / Wall of Mist / Shore Keeper / Tempest Djinn so far are my wall/defenders to keep us in play long enough to mill.

Been contemplating The Immortal Sun but at 6 mana it's kind of steep for what is basically a Dictate of Kruphix effect for this deck. It's obviously a powerful card though and does wonders against decks utilizing planeswalkers though it's vulnerable to eat removal right away.

Curator's Ward gives your Enchantments some removal protection. Not used for the draw clause but if you get use out of it all the better.

So far if you're not playing some form of hybrid control mill it's just not going to work. Play corrosion/rebuilding combo, kill everything or control everything, and draw your way to victory. Not enough draw triggers currently though.

And as for control mill that's not what I want to do though. I want a mill deck not a control deck with secondary mill. You end up doing more controlling than milling and if you’re going to focus on control then you would be better served to just have a beater creature finish them off the normal way.

Other Ideas I've contemplated for this mill deck;

Riverwise Augur + Naban, Dean of Iteration is a nice little ETB combo. Draw 6 cards mill 12 off their deck. Set up your next 4 draws. Allows you to get more from other ETB effects too paired with a Naban. Like Skyscanner and Silvergill Adept. Especially if using cards like Siren's Ruse to bounce and repeat the ETB effects. This is not very good but it is a different route to go.

Howling Golem

Fleet Swallower

Nezahal, Primal Tide punishes them for playing any Noncreature spell. It's costly though and I don't see it fitting in our curve.

I was thinking probably changing Shore Keeper for something like Cancel or Essence Scatter
