Earth Surge Discussion

Farel on Newbie needs help getting into ...

I can't deny that Merfolk and their philosophy did fit me quite well. I overall like combo mechanics, powering up, and things like that.

Also, I wish to say that I do own some more rare cards, which could potentially be helpful for future upgrades of whichever deck I'd get: - Hinterland Harbor - Temple Garden - Clifftop Retreat - Azusa, Lost but Seeking - Myojin of Infinite Rage - Scion of the Wild - Earth Surge - Novijen Sages - Sensei's Divining Top

Is there anything out there for me? Some pre-made commander? Is there anything out there that I could potentially create with my cards? Is there something that I could build towards?

Explore, Earth Surge or Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip could be useful here

I tried this with Natural Affinity and Sylvan Advocate a while back. The haste on Sylvan Awakening makes it a lot better. A beatdown plan isn't off the table. You actually reminded me to look back over the decklists.

Earth Surge/Elemental Uprising/Genju of the Cedars/Early Harvest are all there, and can have an impact, depending on what else you are jamming and what the plan is.

Perilous Forays/Seed the Land can give you quite a lot of range.

I absolutely love this! I never thought I'd see the day that my previous saprolings would make a good EDH deck. Of course, I never knew that Tana, the Bloodsower existed until now.

I only have a few suggestions that I hope helps. Have you considered Verdeloth the Ancient? He's a little steep, but his anthem effect and the kicker cost are definitely useful.

Life and Limb would be good here too, not only to increase your mana sources, but to increase your creature count too. On a side note, if you pair that with Cryptolith Rite, you'll essentially allow all of your forests to tap for any color mana.

Earth Surge is gimmicky and heavily reliant on L&L, but it's an option.

Mirage Mirror is pretty cheap and versatile. Good if you get only one token doubler or if one is destroyed.

Lastly, I'd recommend Panharmonicon since you have a decent amount of enter-the-battlefield effects (most notably Anointed Procession and Parallel Lives). It also doubles Aura Shards, Impact Tremors, and Huatli's emblem.

I hope this helps!

Seems cool. Maybe try some of these:

if you're going to use Earth Surge, i would recommend using Treetop Village, Spawning Pool, and/or Hissing Quagmire. other options could be Mutavault or Blinkmoth Nexus or Inkmoth Nexus, but i think the colored ones would prove to be more useful. especially the quagmire.

Hey I can't believe I found this deck again! I found an older cardlist on mtgcommander.net; I'm glad to see it with stuff from newer sets! The variation I've contructed is here: There's No Kill Like Overkill

If you have any budget-y suggestions, that would be much appreciated. Such as, in the older decklist, Abundance and Nissa's Pilgrimage are both listed. Are they still worth running, or are they outstripped by other cards?

As for commentary on the deck current iteration, I have one question for you: why no Sylvan Advocate? It is everything this deck wants it to be; it buffs your own manlands without increasing your opponents' like Earth Surge, it's a prime tutor target for Woodland Bellower if you're playing on curve, it has lategame value because it has a big body, and it's an Elf.

I could imagine you cutting Scryb Ranger for it, but almost nothing else; there's so much value everywhere!
