Soul Sisters Modern *2x tournament winner*

Modern Aggro Competitive Lifegain Mono-White

Tradeylouish

Sideboard

This is my first Modern deck, I decided it would be a good way to enter the format with a limited budget. I have been doing fairly well in (admittedly small) local Modern tournaments, and have won two of them.

Based on this list.

Event History:

28/9/2013: 2-1.

Round 1: Late to tournament unfortunately, missed first round.

Round 2: Won 2-0 vs Extra Turns Combo. Path to Exiled his Laboratory Maniac in the first game, he failed to win before decking himself. Got Serra Ascendant active on turn two in the second game, killed him before he got going.

Round 3: Won 2-1 vs Jund.

5/10/2013: 4-0. Won a Born of the Gods prerelease flight.

Round 1: Won 2-0 vs UR Control. Won both games just through constant pressure. Managed to play around Pyroclasm effects.

Round 2: Won 2-0 vs UWR Control (variant). Spectral Procession beats got the better of him. Topdecked Honor of the Pure in game 2 for the win.

Round 3: Won 2-1 vs Mono U Tron. First game went well, early beats were followed up by active Serra Ascendants and Path to Exile for the Wurmcoil Engine. Lost game two to Wurmcoil + Steel Hellkite. Narrowly won game 3 after topdecking Path to get past Wurmcoil.

Round 4: Won 2-0 vs Living End. Martyr of Sands kept my life total safe both games, managed to avoid overextension into Living End . Relic of Progenitus was somewhat useful post-sideboard.

12/10/2013: 1-1-1

Roound 1: Won 2-0 vs Extra Turns Combo. He started his combo a couple of times, but scooped after fizzling.

Round 2: Lost 0-2 vs Mono G Infect. I stabilized in game 1 with active Ascendants ready to block and then alpha strike next turn, but Apostle's Blessing blew me out. He won through my chump blockers in game 2 the same way.

Round 3: Drew 1-1 vs UWR Control (Variant). Won game 1, but lost an incredibly grindy game 2 to relentless Kitchen Finks beats from 60+ life down to 0. Went to time before game 3.

26/10/13: 2-2

Round 1: Lost 1-2 to Mono U Tron. This was actually my own deck, I'd lent it to a friend. It felt kinda weird being beaten with my own deck. Wurmcoil Engine kept getting the better of me, and Repeal took care of my threatening Ajani's Pridemates. Also took quite a hit from mulls down to about 5.

Round 2: Won 2-0 vs BUG Infect. I had the Path to Exiles and chump blockers to stabilize and cruise to victory both games.

Round 3: Lost 1-2 to Gruul Aggro. As a matchup I should always win, this was quite disappointing. Partly due to bad luck, found myself mana-screwed game 3 and never got any Martyrs over all 3 games. Made a couple of misplays, sideboard errors and such.

Round 4: Won 2-1 vs Polymorph/Warp World Combo. Surreal games. He took me by surprise game 1, I think he got his nut draw with ramp into Possibility Storm into cheated in Omniscience. I scooped despite going to 100+ life, I wanted to avoid going to time in a favourable matchup. Won game 2 and 3 like an aggro deck vs a wacky semi-casual combo deck should.

30/11/13: 2-0-1. Won another Born of the Gods prerelease flight.

Round 1: Won 2-0 vs Exarch Twin. I was trying to play around his combo each game by keeping sisters on the board and holding Path to Exile, but I think he may have got poor hands - he never went for the combo and interacted surprisingly little. I just slowly beat him down with weenies for the win.

Round 2: Drew 1-1-1 vs GB Rock. Game 1 he just got the better of me, I was forced to chump block his growing Tarmogoyf and I couldn't push the last points of damage through. Game 2 his Tarmogoyfs were hosed by boarded Rest in Peace, and I cruised to victory on Spectral Procession tokens and a higher life total. Game 3 went to time - he was clearly winning after wrecking me with triple Inquisition of Kozilek followed by Tarmogoyf, but my topdecked chump blockers drew out the game.

Round 3: Won 2-1 vs Affinity. He won the first game with an unanswered Steel Overseer and Master of Etherium, creating a ridiculous board of massive creatures. Game 2 I won with boarded Stony Silence and Sundering Growth, riding an Ajani's Pridemate to victory. Game 3 he was hit hard by mulligans, and I had another strong Ajani's Pridemate hand backed up by removal.

7/12/13: 2-0-1

Round 1: Won 2-1 vs UR Aggro Control. Many of my threats quickly died to burn, but Spectral Procession and Squadron Hawk were useful in pushing through removal. Lifegain kept me out of burn range.

Round 2: Drew 1-1 vs UWR Splinter Twin. Restoration Angel was problematic as it blocked my fliers. I had lots of fliers in game 1, so I attacked into one repeatedly, but a second flashed in put a stop to that. Game 2 Brave the Elements allowed an alpha strike through two angels.

Round 3: Won 2-0 vs UW Flicker. I got ahead in game 1 with a turn two active Serra Ascendant, but it got pathed pretty quick. This was followed by a massive board stall, but I won with Brave the Elements. It was more of a race in game 2, but I drew gas and lifegain helped me stay ahead.
