Maybeboard

This deck originated late Theros and it was pretty fun to play. Though i posted a strong winning record at FNM, the deck still had issues, so the combination of surprise, and good draws stole a few victories.

Had no idea that i was going to continue running this deck, but some of the new cards from Born of the Gods were really key in helping to transform this deck into a legitimate winner.

So the strategy is to ramp to a huge board state, and use Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to overload Cyclonic Rift, monstrous a Palokranos, World Eater to wipe their board, draw a ton of cards and win.

Prior to Born of the Gods, the deck had problems getting set up. Courser of Kruphix through it's subtleties, was a major piece of the puzzle that helped enable this deck. This deck really needed to be able to get to six mana and fill the board. If we can't hit a turn 3 Palukranos, World Eater, Courser is an equally solid option that helps bridge us into our next gear quicker.

Kiora, the Crashing Wave is another new card in the set. In this deck she provides utility. It could ramp us into 6, or more mana turn 4. She can shut down an opposing threat, and provides an alternative win-con.

Nylea, God of the Hunt provides a mana-sink, enables trample if we can't find Cyclonic Rift, and our deck is centered on devotion so it's not difficult to turn her on.

Arbor Colossus is really good right now, providing a similar threat as our Palukranos, and with crazy devotion count to boot.

Garruk, Caller of Beasts is the primary card draw engine. With so many huge creatures, Prime Speaker Zegana is well positioned to also fill our hand. These cards are the engine that provide sometimes ridiculous card advantage. Prophet of Kruphix enables you twice the opportunity to fill your board, or wipe your opponents board on their turn. Prophet is essentially used as a Time Walk more often than not.

Our mana dork package is structured right now to fight through removal as this deck cannot afford to stall out. Elvish Mystic and Sylvan Caryatid we hope to draw early. Kiora's Follower we hope to draw late and ramp with Nykthos.

Vraska the Unseen is a nice catch-all, and alternative win-con.

Last but certainly not least we have Cyclonic Rift. Tempo for the stall, overload for the win.

2-1 Early FNM

First matchup was agains B/W devotion. Simply overmatched, Blood Baron of Vizkopa simply isn't a card i care about.

Second was against straight monoblack. Lost in 2, kept iffy hands and second game misplayed allowing a Desecration Demon in with enough devotion to get offed by a Gray Merchant of Asphodel etb trigger.

Third game was against RG Monsters, won relatively easily, as my opponent made alterations to the list that weren't very conducive to winning. Like exchanging Courser of Kruphix for Boon Satyr...

2-1

Fresh set of matches started off against a White Weenie deck splashing black. These types of decks really give my deck fits. In the third game he had 3 Banisher Priest in play, and it took a timely Rapid Hybridization to free up a Palokranos, World Eater in tandem with a Prophet of Kruphix to untap and wipe his board. Barely got there.

Next match was against Rakdos Aggro. Mana screwed first game, steal a victory. Aggro'd out next, then beat him to lethal after he suited up 2 dudes with Madcap Skills and having a Fanatic of Mogis in hand, i was able to swing in for lethal by having enough mana to drop the topdecked Nylea, God of the Hunt and sacrifice to play an additional Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx to generate enough mana using Nylea's pump ability to push lethal thru.

Final two matchups were against mono-black. Seriously an interesting strategy developed, in i was keeping heavy scry land hands. It was helping me avoid being overly punished by Thoughsieze and kept me from being mana screwed more often than not. i think my matchup against mono-black got worse from the popularity of Lifebane Zombie, but by splashing black having access to more scry land was surprisingly more relevant that i thought it would be. Plus Vraska the Unseen was very relevant, where i usually targeted Underworld Connections with her removal effect, and she was very good at absorbing removal, which cleared the path for my other threats.

4-0 for the later round of FNM with over 40 players. My tiebreakers were the best and i wound up number 1 with a nice shiny Banisher Priest and store credit. Good times...
