Planeswalker (2)

Sorcery (6)

Artifact (2)

I think this is already a deck people have played with, and probably a bit fragile, but it seems like it could be fun. I've seen people talk about decks like this on forums, but haven't seen a viable decklist, so I'm attempting to make one. If there are decklists out there, I apologise in advance if you / they aren't credited.

It's sort of a superfriends deck in a Tron shell. The idea is that Oath of Nissa lets you play any walker you want, and the Tron lands - Urza's Tower, Urza's Mine, and Urza's Power Plant - ramp you into them.

Basically, I just want to play Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker in modern. He seems like a nice guy, and needs someone to play with him.

Essentially, it works like a tron deck, but you really need to start with an Oath of Nissa, it's not the end of the world if you don't though, as there is still the Wurmcoil Engine, Karn Liberated, and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon package.

"So why would you weaken Tron by adding other walkers?" you ask. "For fun!" I say.

In playtesting, most of the decks I have played against have been aggro or midrange. Gideon Jura is a great sideboard card for the deck. If you get him down on turn 3 or 4, when you would otherwise play a Karn Liberated and be on 5-10 life, he is likely to Fog for 2 turns, where Karn would just be ignored and you would die. Of course, unless you're playing against Affinity, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon would be the best to play if you're holding it. Pyroclasm is good as it is likely to kill most small creatures in an aggro match up, but if Gideon lives, he can close out the game pretty quickly.

Path to Exile has been an underperformer. Perhaps dropping the 4th Path from the Sideboard for a 2nd Nature's Claim would be ok. Not to say that Path is at all bad, we just have so many answers in Planeswalkers that Path is largely unnecessary a lot of the time.

I haven't played against control yet. Land destruction match ups can be pretty bad (Ponza, or Death and Taxes with a Ghost Quarter heavy draw), but that's a weakness Tron will always have.

The deck is pretty good, not that I was expecting it to be bad. Ultimately, it is still Tron, which is a high tier deck. Turn 3 Karn Liberated or turn 4 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon will win you the game more than 9 / 10 times.

It's just a a lot more fun to drop Tamiyo, Field Researcher into Doubling Season and Omniscience into Ugin, Karn, Chandra, Torch of Defiance, and Wurmcoil Engine

Updates Add

There is a mono white deck being thrown around with Thalia's Lancers as a tutor for walkers and Eldrazi (such as Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger). I wonder if it would be worth altering this deck to include Lancers. Most likely drop Deploy the Gatewatch for it. Will need to test.
