Grixis (U/B/R) low-creature DotP 2015 deck! These cards are all available in Magic 2015 (DotP). That game has a restriction per deck (4 per common, 3, per uncommon, 2, per rare, 1 per legendary). The numbers indicate the number of available cards to be included in the deck, rather than the actual number of cards I would rather include (or I would include 4
Charmbreaker Devils
).
I would like some advice on which cards to include with this deck. My plan is to build it around the Archaeomancer
+
Charmbreaker Devils
+
Rescue from the Underworld
combination. I would like to minimize other creatures and focus on instants and sorceries - with U/B/R there is a lot to choose from, even in the ~1000 card base I have to work with.
I don't really want to get stuck with cards in my hand that I can't play (i.e. Griselbrand,
Soul of Ravnica
) even though I could retrieve any of them from the graveyard with Rescue from the Underworld... I don't have any self-mill ability in the deck, but I do want to have a strong draw component in the deck. I also want to be a little mana-heavy so that I can cast multiple spells each turn, since theoretically
Charmbreaker Devils
is giving me an additional spell to cast beyond the card I draw at the beginning of my turn. If I do have a Rescue from the Underworld in my hand, I want to be able to cast it (5 cost) and still have enough mana to throw out a Negate or Dissolve or whatever I've got handy.
Dinrova Horror is one of the cooler cards in the available pool, and I would like to include it since I've got Rescue from the Underworld going on anyway. If I do have it, then my
Voyage's End
(or Void Snare, but an instant is preferable) does double duty, protecting me and later turning into an offensive tactic (assuming I can cast both in the same turn, or sneak one in just before my opponent ends turn and my lands untap).
Mercurial Pretender
has some synergy with any of the creatures I already have, so I can continually return it to hand and play it as a copy of Archaeomancer or Dinrova Horror although I am pretty reluctant due to the high mana cost involved. On the other hand, if I have Archaeomancer
+
Mercurial Pretender
+
Time Warp
and enough mana out, I do believe I get infinite turns. I wouldn't want to bank on that, though.
Ulcerate is reasonably powerful and cheap on mana, but I don't have a strong healing set of cards. I haven't included
Covenant of Blood
and the only real card that heals me is
Suffer the Past
.
I wonder if I should include Artful Dodge for use with
Scroll Thief
. Furthermore, any turn I cast it,
Charmbreaker Devils
are going to get +4/+0, so I may as well use it on them as well.
