Cooking Up Some Jank

Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar Is a fun card that searches The Underworld Cookbook as a sweet discard outlet and creating Food tokens that can be great removal or help with some life gain to stall just a bit. Psychic Frog is another discard outlet as well as a potent threat. Vengevine is easy to bring out of the Graveyard with casting "free" Blazing Rootwalla/Hollow One or others. Since the deck is splashing {U} for Psychic Frog; Wonder does wonders for going over the top of the opponents blockers. The fast and rapid draw/discard from Burning Inquiry/Faithless Looting are being used to enable the deck to make explosive early game plays that can "easily" result in having lethal damage on turn 3-4.

The Primer Show

HollowVine as a deck is centered on the idea of getting an early 4/4 body (and then some) that is immune to some of the most common removal in the Modern format Fatal Push/Lightning Bolt for nearly no effort. Cards like Cathartic Reunion/Goblin Lore both help find threats as well as enable reduced casting costs. HollowVine also leverages the graveyard by using mechanics like Flashback/Delirium/Delve; an opponent who allows Vengevine to go unchecked will soon come to regret it. However, in the face of Rest in Peace (or other graveyard hate) the deck can pivot quite easily as many of the best draws are not reliant on the graveyard.

Alternatives

• Unholy Heat: An efficient removal option due to how much the deck fills the Graveyard.

• Collective Brutality: It is excellent interaction and the discard clause fits the discard theme well.

• Ox of Agonas:

• Flamewake Phoenix: Recurring evasive creature.

• Gurmag Angler: An option for a large body that is easy to cast with the decks gameplan. A lot of Delve material, so you can play the delve creatures. Don't play too many though, as you don't want to delve Vengevine and such.

How to Random

Typically the "Honor System" of shuffling up cards in hand and counting out the number of needed discards is good enough In my opinion. I also like to shuffle the hand and lay the cards face down and just let the opponent select the appropriate number of card and then discard them; simply because normally I play at a LGS/casual setting and these are the most expedient methods.

However; For those who INSIST on a truly random method shuffle and put cards face down on the table and assign numerical values to each card and then roll appropriate dice to determine which card is to be discarded, and repeat the process up to the number of needed cards to be discarded.

Turn one Burning Inquiry Example:

• Player One has seven cards in hand (including at least 1 Mountain and 1 Burning Inquiry playing a Mountain then casting Burning Inquiry.

• Player One will draw three cards having eight cards in total and Player Two after drawing three cards will have Ten cards in total.

• Player One will shuffle their eight cards in hand and then lay them on the table face down and from left to right assigning numerical values 1-8 for each card and then roll a D8 discarding the card with the corresponding result.

• Player One will then roll a D8 again assigning one of the cards to have a numerical value of both 1 and 8 (because there are currently only seven cards) then discarding the card with the corresponding result.

• Player One will then roll a D6 for there are now only six cards left to be chosen randomly to discard and discard the card with the corresponding result.

NOTE: All three randomly selected cards are then discarded at the same time.

• Player two will follow this same process.

For two cards in hand roll any die with even numbers and simply assign "Odd" to one card and "Even" to the other to determine which card is discarded.
