Sideboard

It's always darkest before the dawn, but what if the Umbra & Dawn worked together?

Welcome, fellow Planeswalkers. This is a strange little pet deck of mine that allows for infinite combos, but can also go on the Stoneblade beat plan if our combo gets interrupted. It's Always Darkest Umbra before the Dawnwaker!

Zirda, the Dawnwaker is our Companion in this deck. For this purpose, our permanents need to have activated abilities. Dawnwaker here allows us to reduce the costs of activated abilities by as long as it doesn't decrease the cost to less than .

We have put together an engine for Zirda with Umbral Mantle & Mana Dorks such as Birds of Paradise & Bloom Tender to generate infinite power/toughness or even infinite mana with Bloom Tender. As long as your opponent doesn't have flying, Birds of Paradise can swing with infinite damage. With the infinite mana, we are given access to infinite creature card draw as long as we have a copy of Duskwatch Recruiter   on the board. We can dig for the single copy of Walking Ballista in our deck to do infinite damage.

Finally, Giver of Runes is our best mainboard protection. She can just hang out and protect our pieces.

Stoneforge Mystic is our primary way of serching Umbral Mantle, but we have included a few other Equipment cards just in case our infinite combo is interrupted and stopped.

  • Sword of Fire and Ice is easily the best sword available.
  • Batterskull is a solid Living Weapon choice as a 4/4 with Lifelink and Vigilance.
  • Kaldra Compleat is my favorite Living Weapon that brings forth a hard to remove threat that can win us games on its own.

Cosmic Rebirth is an interesting reanimation tool that can get our fetches back for ramp or even get some powerful permanents back from our grave. For this reason, all our permanents are CMC 3 or less to take full advantage of the card. This can help us retrieve any of our combo pieces that end up in the graveyard for one reason or another. We also run solid draw and discard to further this plan along.
