Whispers of Emrakul

Sorcery

Target opponent discards a card at random.

Delirium - If there are four or more card types among cards in your graveyard that opponent discards two cards at random instead.

@legendofa Took a few minutes to sift through my favorite two expansions of the last 20 years, Shadows over Innistrad and Eldritch Moon. This is good art coupled with my favorite things, Lovecraftian lore and dark fantasy. sigh they don’t make them like they used to :(

Anyway, you already had several of the ones I found, but I managed to find a few new ones.

Insidious Mist  Flip that’s some mighty fine bokeh depth of field

Fork in the Road this one almost slipped past, but it should qualify.

Mad Prophet this guy’s all about dem first person hands!

Shard of Broken Glass ouch

Cemetery Recruitment

Whispers of Emrakul Tough call whether it belongs in human hands or tentacles, but this one’s definitely more human body/hand than tentacle monster, I think.

These should probably be filed under your new Tentacle sub category, I imagine.

Courageous Outrider

Drag Under

Repel the Abominable

Slayer's Cleaver

Strange Augmentation

Turn Aside

These I’m not too sure on. The angle is off on some, while others are more ‘perceived’ first person and lacking your qualifiers than actual first person.

Dual Shot I think it’s just a low camera angle.

Smoldering Werewolf  Flip the axe dead center at the bottom of the screen leads me to believe it’s from someone’s viewpoint, but no hands or any other features you’re looking for.

Springsage Ritual not really first person I guess. Just looking at someone else’s hands.

Thirsting Axe just a low angle I believe.

Thanks Memphismaymagic5! I like Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet as a 1/3 split with Desecration Demon. I'm not sold on Go Blank. If it was 2 mana then absolutely. I think Whispers of Emrakul might be a better choice over Go Blank. At 3 MV I'd want a bigger pay-off.

I know this is out of left field given the discussion but what are your guys’ thoughts on Whispers of Emrakul?

Darth_Savage I think Reforge the Soul would be an amazing addition here. I overlooked it because I only looked for cards with lower mana costs, I didn't even consider there can be a Miracle card that's suitable for my deck, thanks!

A very early version of this deck did feature cards like Whispers of Emrakul and Wrench Mind, but in the end these discards were not potent enough- Dark Deal or Reforge the Soul that you mentioned can cause a 7-card discard, and even Burning Inquiry is a 3-card discard for one mana.

After all, my intent is not to lock my opponent out of cards, but to make them discard a lot (and thus get creatures, cards and mana from Waste Not). Gnat Miser is a no-go for the same reason.

Sign in Blood might be a good addition here, it's very versatile. Seizan, Perverter of Truth would be even better, but it's a very costly creature- by the fifth turn an FNM game is usually over.

Do you maybe have any card suggestions for surviving before the combo gets activated? I haven't played against any control-heavy deck with it yet, even in playtests, so I'm not really sure what pieces could help. Thanks for your input!

Some thoughts...

Reforge the Soul, would give you another Wheel of Fate effect.

Sign in Blood, says target player, you can use it on yourself or your opponent, or have it on a stick Seizan, Perverter of Truth.

Barbed Shocker, Incendiary Command and Chandra Ablaze, don't cause a draw of 7, but do discard hand and draw the same number of cards, or 3 anyway.

Gnat Miser, reduces a players max hand size, Kederekt Parasite hurts them when they draw, as long as you have a red creature, enchantment, planeswalker or artifact.

Liliana's Caress, deals damage based on discard, Runeflare Trap does it based on draw.

Tasigur's Cruelty, has delve and discards 2 cards, though Wrench Mind exists and with a little work Whispers of Emrakul.

This is just off the top of my head (to be fair I have a deck which plays in this space Grixis Owl-ing Mine) so there are probably more... Hope this inspires you, good luck brewing your deck.

Hymn to Tourach is not Modern legal, Whispers of Emrakul is probably the closest you get, but you would need to modify your deck a bit to make it work...

As a stop gap for Liliana of the Veil, you could try Necrogen Mists. I'd also suggest Mire's Toll or Blackmail, rather than Thoughtseize as the life loss will hurt, and Bojuka Bog, as there are a lot of graveyard based decks in modern. You could also test Vicious Rumors, which is new to the field.

I'd suggest Whispers of Emrakul and Creeping Chill if you were running Dakmor Salvage, but in your present setup you aren't, note that this pairs well with Raven's Crime. As an alternative win condition Nyxathid might be worth considering...

Abbot of Keral Keep is at most a 2-of in a deck with so many relatively expensive spells as this one (you'd rarely want to play it turn 3 in the hope of hitting a 1-mana spell, right?). 2 more Thoughtseize would be pretty good, though.

Implement of Malice... I suspect that it is too expensive in mana, but it trades for a card from opponents hand, replenishes itself, and if you could find a little bit more artifact, it could enable delirium, so you could play Whispers of Emrakul instead of Wrench Mind.

Noxious Gearhulk also fits the description: You get a decently sized creature, kills another creature, and gets a bunch of life. Only problem is the cost (at 6 mana it's probably over the top of the curve). Actaully, if your curve went that high, you could add the titans too.
