Rage Forger

Creature — Elemental Shaman

When this enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on each other Shaman creature you control.

Whenever a creature you control with a +1/+1 counter on it attacks, you may have that creature deal 1 damage to target player.

I tend to agree, but with some of WotC's decisions, I don't know that I trust them in making such assessments. I don't think I can pin certain cards but when they removed the 'problem' cards, did they provide an alternative for their effects (to Metroid_Hybrid's point)? Or were the effects problematic as well?

I don't think Witch has been used as a creature type so getting rid of Witch in name doesn't effect gameplay at all. But Shaman and Druid? I'd be alright with trying Gilt-Leaf Archdruid and Rage Forger in the same deck but the point is that if the words are problematic and the words are creatures types, how do you make an appropriate change (if any is necessary) without affecting gameplay? That's for the business to decide, and for the customer to affirm/deny.

I'll take your advice and include one Seasoned Pyromancer for the moment and try it out. As said, I think Seasoned Pyromancer is excellent, but maybe I was just extremely unlucky. I ran into situations like for example having one land in hand, I cast Seasoned Pyromancer with a Harmonic Prodigy in play, discard the land and draw 2 great cards like a Rage Forger and a Lightning Bolt that could win me the game on the spot only to have to discard them both immediately to draw a couple of lands. That still hurts, but I guess I’ll look at the bigger picture from now on :)

I used to have Goblin Anarchomancer in there too, but I found that I rather have something that impacts the board immediately instead. As you said, it helps mostly with Collected Company, but the rest of the curve is rather low to have a huge impact.

Thanks again for the advice Metropolis39!

Missing out on my favorite shaman not including red. Grumgully, the Generous would work then you could add Dragonmaster Outcast or Rage Forger

You could also do 4 Flamekin Harbinger to find your Rage Forgers

Thanks for the suggestions!

I've definitely been considering Unclaimed Territory , but I haven't found that I need it.

Aether Vial I have already tested extensively and cut.

Unsettled Mariner is great and I would really like to play it, but its in the two colors that this deck doesn't run. I only have 4 Cavern of Souls to let me cast it. I could consider adding the 4x Unclaimed Territory, but even then, 8 mana sources to pay WU is still really risky in my opinion. Normally while playing this deck I just power through any spot removal with more shamans. The main problem is boardwipes.

Mutavault is definitely worth trying, I completely forgot about it. Not sure how useful colorless mana is though, especially with an Anarchomancer down. Activating it as a Rage Forger goes down and then swinging for extra damage could definitely be nice, since I sometimes find that I have extra mana left over.

I like the unique take of using changeling to get reductions from the eminence keyword and then trying to get some fun payoffs from lords. That said with 16 changelings, including Amoeboid Changeling and Mirror Entity and 28 pay off cards. I feel like you are forcing a lot of "lords" into a deck where it doesn't really matter.

Some of the lords I would remove because there aren't worth the slot for the small effect on a few changelings. Cloudshredder Sliver, Drogskol Captain, Lord of the Unreal, and Lovisa Coldeyes. Most of your changelings are small and giving them a small bump is P/T and haste or hexproof isn't worth forcing these cards into the deck.

Sliver Overlord, Realm-Cloaked Giant, and Thundercloud Shaman are on my maybe list because they are a bit more situational. Are you going to spend 3 mana to search for a changeling to get an effect? Do you want to wrath away your dragons and leave a team of small giants? Not sure how often these show up.

Changeling to think about including are Taurean Mauler and Chameleon Colossus, you have enough ETB trigger that Birthing Boughs might even be good.

Other payoff cards to think about Oona's Blackguard, Rage Forger, Shared Animosity, The Circle of Loyalty, Distant Melody, Forerunner of the Coalition, Riptide Director , and Necromancer's Covenant

As far as sideboarding, you can simply include elementals that do what you want. Good examples include Fulminator Mage, Healer of the Glade, Ingot Chewer, and Wispmare. I'd also suggest including maybe 3 copies of either Lightning Bolt, or better-yet Dismember in the sideboard, so you can disassemble an opponents plans if they have a faster creature setup.

As far as becoming more resilient, it's a tricky question to answer. There are already heaps of existing really strong elementals decks in modern (if you google "Modern Elementals" you'll see lots of quite powerful decklists pop up, most being 4/5-colour). But going down this road means diluting your existing gameplan. I think in the long-run, adapting more to these strategies will make your deck stronger, but might transform it too far away from what you want it to do.

I'll post some links here. If nothing else, they might provide some food-for-thought:

Another card to potentially consider which I didn't see in those lists is Rage Forger, which a friend of mine uses to great success. I think your best bet is to make a series of small changes and play a decent amount of games between changes - make sure your deck progresses to a good space naturally (if you just rush into a big change, it'll just end up with you having a decklist identical to one of the ones linked above, which while easy may not be what you're after).

The alara block elemental tribal tools are worth a look, especially for more casual decks. Smokebraider , Flamekin Harbinger , Brighthearth Banneret , Nova Chaser , Rage Forger , Pyroclast Consul etc.
