Test it out and see what sticks! :) Sleep-cursed is worth testing imo and it's cheap, and maybe check this out, one of those winning fae lists I mentioned

capwner, I'm doing some minor optimizations to the decklist. I cut a copy of Favorable Winds, which while good for pumping the faeries, feels like overkill at 4 copies. I also cut a land.

Added Thoughtseize instead of Ego Drain. I think it makes for a better one drop and it won't cost me an exiled card from my opening hand.

I know you suggested Kaito, Bane of Nightmares, but i think Kaito, Dancing Shadow works better overall.

I think your strongest card is Spellstutter Sprite and ninjas work perfectly to reuse/abuse them while generating their own advantage, they're good with Faerie Miscreant too. There are a lot of ninjas you could use, I think with that Kaito usually you'll be +0'ing for card selection and draw and using the -2 as a big tempo hit vs. whatever your opponent has managed to field. Faeries are all about those tempo hits + advantage ensuring you hopefully always have some permission on your opponent. I think Barrow Naughty is your weakest one and Faerie Impostor is the next weakest. Sleep-Cursed is slow to start hitting but it has ward, hits harder, and is a 1 drop for your turn 2 spellstutter purposes.

Looks super clean, allow me to be the first +1 :) Only thing I can think is Broadside Bombardiers to push just slightly faster damage in some cases vs. very fast combo decks? And maybe the ring? I guess I just want to add more red stompy cards because this is already very stompy and a little red. Ring seems like an important card advantage card but who knows if it will be banned or what, can't blame you for skipping it.

capwner, thanks for the reply!

Im not sure Kaito is that good with faeries. Its +1 ability does nothing for them, although it would help itself. I cant imagine including more than one or two of him and that means something would have to go. Im just not sure.

Bitterblossom is fun, but if i get low on life, its dangerous and its hard for me to remove it from the battlefield in a pinch. Having the effect on a creature might suck because it's easier to get rid of it, but i feel like that might be a good thing.

Sleep cursed faerie is interesting, but its sort of slow, right?

Braizen borrower is a strong contender, but what to cut for it?

Whats your thoughts on this?

Sleep-Cursed Faerie is pretty strong I think. Maybe also one of the Kaitos? Bitterblossom almost seems better than Bitterbloom Bearer because it's harder to remove, idk though there could be upsides to both. Brazen Borrower is another good faerie. I am seeing some cool looking more control-heavy faeries lists on mtgdecks that have performed well maybe look at some of them for inspo? Maybe try something with ninjutsu to bounce your sprites like in pauper? Maybe the Kaito THAT HAS NINJUTSU lol Kaito, Bane of Nightmares. Overall I like the budget of yours and all the efficient faeries-matter spells, +1 from me

Pestilence and fog, what a nightmare. Seems like gates could fit with the deck's creatures so might be worth considering, gives an alternate angle and even synergizes with Pestilence via Basilisk Gate pumping your stuff up to survive the dmg. I think Nitrox_18's Food Pestilence - www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/visual/7266723 is just killer and worth a look/try maybe for inspiration. Also I thought you'd have Guardian of the Guildpact since that is a classic Pestilence card and a big reason they used to run white, any reason for the omission? Cool list always like seeing pauper brews!

Oh and I would cut some land and add Troll of Khazad-dum for sure

Cool idea, maybe something like Massacre Wurmfoil to combo with the Maha, over Avatar of Woe? Maybe also Victimize or Persist as backup means of reanimating your big threats, which Unearth can't quite do. Ripples of Undeath is another great card for reanimator that fills your yard AND draws you the spells you want.

Love Maralen, I built her before but mine was the slightly more cheesy 80-lands/ad naus/Sickening Dreams meme version. My only recs for you are Emergence Zone and Talon Gates of Madara these are both useful tech for getting a Maralen tutor on your turn before anyone else gets one on theirs.

Thanks Balaam__, this one is special to me bc it was my first modern deck and I think still one of the craziest/most fun 60 card decks I've ever played due to the instant-speed balance. Hugely miss this deck and era of modern but also thankful is can still be played via these community formats!

Thanks for including the link explaining the format. I hadn’t heard of pre-Fire before and it was an interesting read. Deck looks great, reminiscent of that era before what I consider the point where this game sloughed off downhill.

@Altoman I honestly can’t recall if I looked at it when I built this, but I’m not sure it’s a good fit. The creatures included here are reanimation targets and are already powerful enough to be finishers in and of themselves, so I don’t think Dragon Breath offers much in the way of utility. It would perform much better in a deck with a plethora of smaller creatures and which has abundant mana at the disposal.

I’ll add it to the maybeboard in case someone out there wants to tinker with the build and modify it, but I’m fairly content with how it performs in this iteration. Thanks for the suggestion though, I’m always interested to hear people’s ideas.

I saw your deck in the theme/gimmick category. If you’re looking for ocean-themed stuff check out my Briny Deep deck. Not sure if you actually wanted GO that direction lol but I thought I’d offer.

Seems like Penance and Hidden Retreat might be interesting includes here. Would allow you to manipulate your top-decking of the right enchantment and stop a threat at the same time.

Your removal / protection seems pretty light. Propaganda or Ghostly Prison would slow your opponents(s). Maybe include a few counterspells? Louisoix's Sacrifice or Disallow would stop both spells and abilities like Bane of Progress.

What about some recursion if your enchantments get destroyed? There's Replenish but it's pricey or Resurgent Belief. Or Open the Vaults which gets your artifacts too.

Great stuff here. Familiar enough that the key cards and core loop are immediately recognizable, but different enough to stand out and be interesting to play.
