GW Hatebears Commander

Commander (EDH) forum

I’m having a dilemma between either Saffi Eriksdotter and Captain Sisay at helm for a GW Hatebears deck. There are quite a few legendary cards in the deck, so I figured Sisay would work, but not as many as I’d imagine. Saffi seems like a rather unique commander, but I tend to feel like it’s just going the combo route.

Why would you have anyone other than Gaddock Teeg as your commander?

As a Saffi Eriksdotter player, she is combo. Captain Sisay is the better choice for hatebears.

x12721 I like challenging myself by making commanders from different planes (I already have Oona, Queen of the Fae as my Lorwyn/Shadowmor commander) for flavor purposes.

I would go with sisay because her effect just works. Saffi is useful once or twice unless you dedicate 10-15 cards to being able to use her.

Captain Sisay, commonly the best hatebear deck in the format, being tier 1 in cEDH for good reason. Sisay can fetch hate of all kinds, and is a better combo enabler with Paradox Engine lines too.

Here is a list of good, fetchable hatebear targets with Sisay:

Protection

Tutors

Ramp

Card draw engines

Combos:

All of the above is just what I remember off the top of my head, you can find tons of cool things to fetch!

x12721 is right. Gaddock Teeg is my favorite hatebear commander in because he basically doesnt let anyone else play commander/their big dumb goofy sorceries. its the greatest thing ever.

RedmundR2 or run the cEDH deck, the objectively more competitive commander that can just fetch Gaddock Teeg need be... Captain Sisay?

competitive EDH? I aint about that life. What I am about is playing Gaddock Teeg from the command zone over and over and over and over again

RedmundR2 xD I can respect that, but I about that life where Gaddock never dies because my opponents want to remove Sisay before I fetch Paradox Engine and loop my deck 50 times over xD

SynergyBuild Winning is cool, but have you ever tried annoying the living hell out of your playgroup until they demand you play your other decks? Its better than winning. xD

SynergyBuild's right. Sissay is objectively the best hatebears commander for WG.

Still, for casual hatebears in commander, my vote actually goes to Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa. He's unassuming enough to not draw hate and being able to make all your small dorks unblockable is cool. Making what basically amounts to a Meekstone deck is both good at casual tables and not too oppressive.

Nah, I have looped Mindslaver in with Paradox Engine 1 million times...

Did I mention winning?

(Yes all of the loop is legendary and hilarious, my opponents might as well just hand me their cards for me to play with for a few hours xD)

Also, I meant Linvala, Keeper of Silence with my first post

Oh my God Selvala hands down. Gives you card advantage and you can either choose to go full on stax with Uba Mask or keep the cards flowing. Makes for an excellent Aetherflux wincon, also.

IMMG54 or Captain Sisay... to fetch Selvala, Explorer Returned.

Sisay can even win with Selvala lines faster than selvala can.
