Clash of Occupations! Modern deck building challenge.

Challenges and Articles forum

Once again its time to Rise to the Challenge! This time our theme is creature subtypes.

  1. Choose 1 of the following subtypes: Assassin, Warrior, Shaman, Cleric, Wizard, Knight, Archer, Soldier, Artificer, Rogue, Berserker, Scout, Druid, Samurai, Monk, Advisor, Barbarian or Spellshaper.

  2. Make a 60-card Modern legal deck. All creatures in that deck must have the chosen subtype or it must be mentioned somewhere in its rule text. For example your Shaman deck can include Hearthcage Giant because it summons elemental shamans and your wizard deck can include Benthicore because it summons merfolk wizards.

  3. Changelings are banned (but Mistform Ultimus isnt).

  4. Each subtype can only be chosen once so if someone already posted his/her soldier deck you cant post your own.

  5. Only 1 deck per user.

  6. When 12 decks are posted the tourney shall begin.

  7. Good luck.

Power up! vs. Modern Tribal Challenge - Soldiers vs. Wizards Tribal (URW Delver) Yup its a 3 way. However its not a free-for-all. Artificers may only attack soldiers, soldiers may only attack wizards and wizards may only attack artificers. When one of the players is out, the remaining 2 can obviously attack each other freely.

P1: Plays Hallowed Fountain.

S1: Plays Plains and Soldier of the Pantheon.

W1: Plays Scalding Tarn searching for Island. Plays Delver of Secrets  Flip. (Wizard Life: 19)

P2: Plays Hallowed Fountain.

S2: Plays Plains and War Falcon.

W2: Reveals Forked Bolt. Delver of Secrets  Flip transforms. Plays Steam Vents and Serum Visions.

P3: Plays Temple Garden and untaps it. Plays Blade Splicer. (Power Life: 18)

S3: Plays Mutavault. War Falcon attacks Wizard. (Wizard Life: 17)

W3: Plays Hallowed Fountain. Plays Forked Bolt killing Soldier of the Pantheon and War Falcon. Insectile Aberration  Flip attacks Power. (Power Life: 15)

P4: Plays Glacial Fortress and Wing Splicer. Golem attacks Soldier. (Soldier Life: 17)

S4: Plays Plains and Hero of Bladehold.

W4: Plays Scalding Tarn and searches for Mountain. (Wizard Life: 16)

P5: Plays Tempered Steel. Wizard counters it with Mana Leak. Golem attacks Soldier. (Soldier Life: 14)

S5: Plays Plains, Soldier of the Pantheon and Elspeth, Knight-Errant. Uses its second ability to Hero of Bladehold. Hero of Bladehold (and the 3 soldiers it summons) attack Wizard. Wizard responds with Lightning Helix targeting a soldier token. (Wizard Life: 9) (Soldier Life: 15)

W5: Plays Treasure Cruise exiling 6 cards.

P6: Plays Tempered Steel. Golems attack Soldier. (Soldier Life: 5)

S6: Plays Plains and uses Elspeth, Knight-Errant second ability to Hero of Bladehold who attacks with 5x soldiers, Soldier of the Pantheon and Mutavault. Wizard has no chance of survival. (Wizard Life: 0)

P7: Attacks with golems and wins. (Soldier Life: 0)

Congratulations MyMindFreak! You have won this tournament! 2nd place: TheHroth. 3rd place: derekharsh. Thank you for participating everyone!

I just want to say that it appears that no one knows of a concept called blocking.

A three way? Uhh ok...

Why did soldiers not attack on T2?

January 21, 2015 5 p.m.

UnknownDemon says... #13

Wizards had Delver of Secrets  Flip and it could have killed Soldier of the Pantheon so my friend who was using soldiers didnt want to attack.

Soldier of the Pantheon for Delver of Secrets  Flip is totally a great trade in favor of Soldiers...and if I were the Wizards player I simply wouldn't have blocked because the trade wouldn't have been in my favor...

I just think the choices made could have been better, but it was a good game nonetheless!
