Malignus is a problem —July 7, 2016
Played a 4 player game last night, and I let someone use this deck, and he casted Xenagos, God of Revels, then the next turn casted Malignus. This was a problem cause it was still early in the game and I was the only player at the table and the only player who could take it out and no one had the ability to take out Xenagos, God of Revels.
I had to kill this creature ten different ways. He right of Replicationed it, he Feldon of the Third Pathed it, he Body Doubled it, i killed it with Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet and that made a big old 52/52, so he copied that token with Progenitor Mimic, he casted Artisan of Kozilek to get the Malignus it was counter spelled but that didn't matter cause it's on the cast that gets the trigger from Artisan of Kozilek, then I traded my token with his Malignus and destroyed his Progenitor Mimic, good that leaves only one big 52/52 token left on my side and one on his side. I cast Rise of the Dark Realms, now I have a sweet board state, I got like ten creatures including Malignus but no Xenagos, God of Revels. On his turn he casted Clone Legion. :( it felt like this was never gonna end.
At the end of this two hr game I won with my mono black deck. But the real victory goes to him for fighting off 3 players for 2 hrs with my #StopHittingYourself deck

Thanks heaps man! Well, it's in Prototype stage at the moment and TappedOut thinks its illegal since I've added some Battle for Zendikar cards to it, but this is it so far:

I really like this deck. One card you should look at for card draw is Ceta Sanctuary. This deck has perfect colors for it if you feel you can deal with the discard.

Its def a good card I would put it in if my commander had all three colors in its casting cost. This would work better in a Animar, Soul of Elements deck

What about High Market?the benefit is not that great (+1 Life), but you get rid of stolen creatures mostly for free.

Yes that card is certaintly worth putting in here. Its better than Safe Haven. And its worth noting that City of Shadows is in the maybe board. But High Market might have the slight edge it

Am I missing something...? Doesn't your commander/general have to be all colors in the deck...?

Your commanders casting cost is in the top right corner Animar, Soul of Elements. Most people think that's the only place for the commanders coloer identity. The commanders color identity is the colors in the whole card except reminder texts like "exstort". For example Bosh, Iron Golem's color identity is red, and Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest color identity is jeski. The colors in your commanders color identity is not just it's casting cost. Another example, if Bringer of the Black Dawn was legendary its color identity is WUBRG. Same thing goes for a commander that doesn't run all 5 colors can't have Bringer of the Black Dawn in the deck. Unless the mana symbles were not there if they where written out then its color identity is different like Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII this can go in any deck even though its making something outside you color identity. Same thing for Bant Panorama.. Hope that clears up any other questions.

Love it! I plan to replicate it as soon as I can find the time.
Wondering how you ramp? I'm constantly playing against decks that come out swinging while my decks are still simmering.
I mean I see a Sol Ring in here and some double mana producers, but most of those come in tapped. I'm constantly trying to get the edge timing wise and I just don't see it here. Maybe a Mana Vault, Mana Crypt or an Amulet of Vigor to help with the tapped lands.
Or I'm just missing something.
+1 from me though. I love thievery decks!

It needs a lil bit more ramp, I have been neglecting that for a while... I have been neglecting this deck for while. cause how much hate it draws. I like the Amulet of Vigor, cause it works great with Thawing Glaciers, and since I run all the valid bounce lands it's good with them too like Gruul Turf. Build the deck and tag me in it I'd like to check it out and give some pointers

yes i named the deck a while back and got alot of shit for it and dint quite understand why. so i did some research and the stop hitting yourself deck is a real archetype lol. oh well i still feel this falls under that catagory

Vedalken Shackles requires islands and there is three. Sphinx Ambassador is cool but I want to control the board state not just take them straight from the deck. The card is cool and it would break really cool having a clone of it too but I think it's no better than Phytotitan witch synergizes with the deck way better.

Well anything really it's not the glue that keeps the deck together it's just a super good card. I have replaced it with Amulet of Vigor. The deck needs to be updated.

Amulet of Vigor works really good with bounce lands and any land that comes in tapped also is great with Perilous Forays.. what would you suggest

I love this deck so much. It's really helped me out with my own stealing deck ( Grixis colors with Nicol Bolas at the helm for flavor ). My only question is why you're not running Clever Impersonator? Even if it's not 'stealing' per se, he's still a wonderfully low cost duplicant!
