Post CN-2 release Death and Taxes decklist. My thoughts below:
3 Recruiter of the Guard - nice toolbox ability, but slows down the curve and is weak at 1/1. Keep in mind it searches for toughness 2 or less, so it CAN search for Flickerwisp, but not Serra Avenger.
1 Sanctum Prelate - great against a lot of combo builds like delver, storm, and can be good against almost anything else. Only non-creature spells so its not exactly chalice.
1 Mangara of Corondor - a debatable slot which can also go to Banisher Priest, but mangara works wonders with an Aether Vial on 3 and Karakas.
1 Mirran Crusader - not playing Brimaz, King of Oreskos because, while its 4 toughness, tokens, and vig are wonderful, protection is fantastic (and double strike works wonders with basically all of our equipment)
1 Cavern of Souls - for playing against all those pesky force of will decks.
Vryn Wingmare - while I'd love to play a set, there's not a lot of room and it's a weakness at 3 cmc and toughness 1
Thalia, Heretic Cathar - slow cmc, but a nice ability that meshes well with our overall strategy of taxing, plus her stats are always nice. However, I've personally found this ability to be overrated and just slow us down from our main objective which was very focussed in this deck before CN2 and EMN. We should keep it that way
NOW WHAT ARE WE CUTTING FOR ALL OF THESE AWESOME CARDS?
-1 Mother of Runes - great card that's the target of removal frequently and for a good reason. But with 7 copies with the recruiter of the guard, I think we're fine, plus its only preventative whereas the cards I'm keeping at a playset are key components that we use to WIN.
-1 Phyrexian Revoker - great against Sneak Attack or Deathrite Shaman, similar point as above, plus sideboardable Pithing Needle which will also work on lands
SIDEBOARD
Enlightened Tutor - this will go great with a lot of graveyard and enchantment hate we have
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar - great against Massacre and related cards
Why no removal like Path to Exile or council's judgement? These slots are valuable and are generally filled well with what we have. 4 swords to plowshares has done me well plus the mangara combo.
