Roc Egg Discussion
Hey, you're welcome :)
What's the max budget you have to make card upgrades? When you finish making upgrades what price range can you have for total deck cost? The precon for example at $60 is low and I would hope you could afford at least $50 for upgrades. If you can afford more expensive price cards then my card suggestions will be different then if you can't. Smothering Tithe and Birds of Paradise for example are very good cards for ramp, but they might be too expensive for the budget.
What advice about upgrades would you like?
Some cards from the precon that can be cut since they're not as good as others or don't have good enough synergy with Ghired:
- Blossoming Sands
- Graypelt Refuge
- Kazandu Refuge
- Rugged Highlands
- Cliffside Rescuer: can only protect something once which is not worth it when there's options that can be repeatable.
- Doomed Artisan: these tokens are not worth populating.
- Roc Egg: has to die before it does anything.
- Heart-Piercer Manticore: can be fine as creature removal, but I think there's better options.
- Scaretiller: too slow as ramp or anything else.
- Tahngarth, First Mate: belongs in it's own deck as Commander General.
- Atla Palani, Nest Tender: belongs in her own deck as Commander General.
- Soul of Zendikar: there's better six drops to play.
- Emmara Tandris: there's better seven drops to play.
- Tectonic Hellion: yikes.
- Desolation Twin: too much mana and the token is lackluster with no evasion.
- Commander's Insignia: not a good anthem effect for four mana.
- Full Flowering: this doesn't do anything unless you a lot of mana and a have a token on the battlefield to populate.
- Trostani's Judgment: there's much better lower mana cost options to exile a creature. Getting to also populate is not worth four or five extra mana.
- Soul Foundry: too slow.

Gideon for protection, lifegain, aggro creature, and removal if he gets that high; Zenith for fetch/ ramp with birds and other green creatures, serra ascendant is an EDH staple due to lifegain, aggro nature and synergies with other target list cards; birds for ramp, sacred foundry for boros because I hate bounce lands and this speeds up the deck.
Guildmage mana abilities are not as good as Trostani and are costly, Ascendant takes this spot. Momentous fall is too slow and don't see when I would play this over other cards; Frostfang is fantastic until tons of tokens are out and I am unintentionally milling myself; birds is a better roc egg, I am not running midrange but token focused so that is why it is out.

@ihazpie Thanks a bunch for clearing up the situation about Roc Egg . I do like the idea of changelings in this deck, even if I wasn't 100% on board with Mirror Entity . In response to your thought about Gishath, Sun's Avatar , im probably going to keep him. Not only is he very large, but he is basically a massive, walking, talking egg. Unless I exile something of my own, I dont actually get a changeling off Crib Swap so i don't think that i am going to include that.

Worldspine Wurm is good unrelated but there is a combo with Ashnod's Altar and Runed Stalactite That will let you just go through you your entire deck of creatures till you get the one you want. Then if possible use a card like Faith's Reward or Brought Back to get some creatures you sacrificed that turn while you were cycling through your deck.

Love the deck - been wanting to make a similar one for a while. accordianing suggestions to avoid filling the page.
Roc Egg - double dips as well, making multiple 3/3 flying tokens when it dies with your general on the field.
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad - pumps out lifelinkers, pumps out emblems. double win.
Hallowed Spiritkeeper - the bigger the graveyard, the bigger the swarm
Anointed Procession - Double up on tokens. works with Treasure & Clue tokens too
Wurmcoil Engine - double dips into a on death trigger
Hangarback Walker - double dips into, you guessed it, a death trigger. sensing a theme in my suggestions...
Pitiless Plunderer - gives treasure tokens on you creature's death.
Revel in Riches - gives treasure tokens on enemy creature's death, and an alternate win con
Sacred Mesa - also triggers a sac proc each turn you keep it around
Hidden Stockpile - a sac outlet that grants creatures.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion - pumps out tokens 3 at a time, or wide down the fatties. or both.
Twilight Drover - make tokens when tokens die. the cycle continues.
Custodi Soulbinders - makes tokens based on how many creatures were in play.
White Sun's Zenith - EoT mana dump for all the tokens. follow up with general cast, swing.
Entrapment Maneuver - force a solo attacker to die, makes tokens. handy little overlooked combat trick.
Lingering Souls - kind of a staple of Orzhov spirits, was kinda supprised not to see it.
Luminarch Ascension - stall to make stupidly cheap angels.
Shadows of the Past - lets you dig quickly through your deck with aenough death effects. doubles as a recurable life drain effect once your yard is deep enough
Sangromancer - death is life. who knew?
Bloodchief Ascension starts out small, but starts draining hard once it gets rolling.
Vampiric Rites is a solid, cheap card draw engine for tokens.
Thallid Soothsayer is it's legged, slightly more expensive brother (no life gain, but no black mana cost. more expensive, but has legs. bit of give and take, really)
Seraph of the Scales - this card is solid, if not amazing, so I was rather suprised to not see it here.
Yosei, the Morning Star - either lock down 2 opponents for a turn, or one opponenet for 2 turns. either way is a solid win.
Archon of Justice - exile a threat on death. simple enough.
Ashen Rider - triggers coming and going, but kinda pricey mana wise. worth looking at if nothing else.
Kokusho, the Evening Star - drain ALL THE THINGS!
Solemn Simulacrum - goes in most decks, didn't see it here so I figured I'd mention it.
Vindictive Lich - gives alot of options for a single death effect.

I know Elenda, Hangarback etc are all going to be strong staple cards. this next one is not really worth mentioning for most peoples meta. However if someone is considering the route of the “maximum” strategy with Teysa, Roc Egg is a cool death trigger that gives us nice flying 3/3 birds.
Again there is far better death trigger cards that will probably soon be known as “staples” that should be ran first.
