What format are you playing, just casual with friends? If so are there any specific colors you're looking at? Do the cards need to be strictly kamigawa block or will you accept spirits from other sets also?

the question is, what do you want to do with the deck.

do you want to make some convoluted combo deck (a la Lifespinner).

something related to graveyard synergy (ft. Iname, Death Aspect and soulshift)

or aggro (Drogskol Captain, Spectral Procession)

As for colors, red is probably the worst while white is by far the best.

slimslamer I don't really care as long as their good spirits I just thought that kamigawa was one of the main spirit ones with lots of cool cards.

wakawakawaka wow your name is hard to write I tried 4 times and I got it wrong anyway I was thinking about any type but now is more than the time to pick im split between combo and graveyard synergy I believe there both good but I cant really decide I have to ask which one in your oppinion is more consistent

If you want graveyard synergy green has some really cool cards that do the trick, such as Hana Kami. For a historically strong deck with cool lines of play check out ghost dad, an old kami-rav favorite of mine. http://mtgsalvation.gamepedia.com/Standard_Ghost_Dad_deck

This deck also looks super fun:http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/daily-deck/kamigawa-block-constructed-arcane-spirits-2015-06-23

those decks lokk very interesting I may have to consider those for the deck im nervous having 3 colors for a deck I have not had the best time making them buyable and good as in the black and white one if I end up adding those colors I will use that deck as inspiration thanks for the links

November 13, 2015 6:56 p.m.

slimslamer says... #10

Yeah after looking at it it's actually overwhelming, and 3 colors is hard to pull off. The black and white one is very powerful though, and as an added bonus Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit has amazing synergy with it.

I looked it over and I love the deck I just don't have dark confidant I may save for one if my friends don't have one

slimslamer says... #12

There are also much better enchantments you can add too, such as Pacifism or similar cards which work great with Tallowwisp.

very true

slimslamer says... #14

Dont bother with Dark Confidant, black has a decent amount of card draw so replace him with something cheaper.

ohh that's a relief I almost thought it was necessary

Tons of info on spirits:

Commander Options
Karador, Ghost Chieftain - The most solid choice for card access and card quality.

Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker - Great with Shadowborn Apostle, otherwise you're just playing mono and Kokusho, the Evening Star is better for mono spirit tribal.

Ephara, God of the Polis - Cheaper spirits backed up by counters and card draw? Hells yeah!

Brago, King Eternal - His blink effects get pretty nuts. With cards like Mulldrifter and Flickerwisp you can do a lot of work while staying tribal.

Geist of Saint Traft - Ok I'm starting to think has a shot of Usurping Karador.

Oloro, Ageless Ascetic - Ok bear with me here. With some of the cards in the section titled "Oloro, Ageless Ascetic Support Cards" you'll see that spirits can help both with the control from the and side of things and the reanimation from the and side of things. Besides that both Brago and Geist of Saint Traft can be played in an Oloro Spirit Tribal deck!

Myojin
Myojin of Night's Reach
Myojin of Cleansing Fire
Myojin of Life's Web

Star
Kokusho, the Evening Star
Yosei, the Morning Star

Aspect
Iname, Death Aspect
Iname, Life Aspect

Generally Good Spirits
Windborn Muse
Karmic Guide
Sekki, Seasons' Guide
Seedborn Muse (5 Stars)
Spirit of the Labyrinth (Good if you have no draw, BAD if you are using Ephara, God of the Polis as your commander.

Full kamigawa with Arcane Spells
Infernal Kirin
Kodama of the South Tree (More aggro but great)

Karador, Ghost Chieftain Specific Support Spirits
Eternal Dragon

Control Heavy Support Spirits
Horobi, Death's Wail (First play Ascetacism)
Ghosts of the Innocent (Helps you stay alive)

Ephara, God of the Polis support
Blinking Spirit
Kiyomaro, First to Stand (Most likely to have a full hand with Ephara as commander)

Oloro, Ageless Ascetic Support Cards
Dreamborn Muse - Mill yourself to set up mass reanimation.
Cloudhoof Kirin - Mill yourself to set up mass reanimation.
Keiga, the Tide Star - Just mean.
Myojin of Seeing Winds - Draw lots of cards? Heck yeah!

Special Mention
Kataki, War's Wage - Can really hurt a lot of decks however it also prevents you from running a healthy amount of artifacts.

Seizan, Perverter of Truth - Used with Nekusar, the Mindrazer. If you are playing cards that prevent opponent's from drawing extra cards (Spirit of the Labyrinth) then his drawback is only a bonus. Aggressively costed but you MUST be able to negate the draw you're giving them.

Hopefully this helps you. And hopefully if you weren't talking about commander you'll consider it now. You won't get to cast the coolest spirit cards in other formats unless you're playing Goryo's Vengeance.

I was talking about modern

I've played it in commander both with against against my friends Teneb, the Harvester tribal+Arcane deck. It's pretty good and can crush Shattergang Brothers unless I curve from super fast aggro into a Living End once he combos his whole army onto the field. Turn 7 kills are the norm and he is an extremely budget player. And that's him killing me T7 even after I've made him sacrifice 2-7 creatures or dealt 30 damage! He's just like "Nope, I got an army now F off!"

I have never seen a modern spirit deck anytime withing the last 2-3 years but there are a few different directions you could go. First up, :

There is also a more reanimator style direction you could go. Rather than trying to force the combo early with cards like Faithless Looting and get lucky with Violent Outburst you use a solid mix of removal, plain old "good" creatures, and Unburial rights.

Path to Exile Must
Abrupt Decay Most important card in the deck
Discard spell of your choice.
12-17 creatures with most of them being good 2-4 drop value creatures with a few bombs.
2-4x Unburial Rites

The Myogins only come with the divinity counter if you played them from your hand :(

Aw bummer. That would have been some fun and awesome tech : (

Femme_Fatale says... #24

Could just play spirit tokens.

November 14, 2015 2:42 p.m.

wakawakawaka says... #25

spirit tokens wouldn't be fun, original, strong, or interesting.

November 15, 2015 1:08 a.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #26

Tokens is probably the strongest spirit centered deck out there.

November 15, 2015 1:24 p.m.

hark says... #27

fun is better than strong if I wanted strong I would just play agro goblins in a deck costing 1000$ I would much rather have fun with it

November 15, 2015 2:31 p.m.

Femme_Fatale says... #28

Goblins most likely costs around half that at most.

November 15, 2015 2:33 p.m.

Goblins are good...? Have I missed something?

There's also the Innistrad block Spirit theme that you can play around with, and that's more . Or you could work with Populate from Ravnica, which is .

November 15, 2015 2:38 p.m.

hark says... #30

and any deck can cost that easy and will beat others goblins are not insane but Goblin Piledriver has been reprinted.

any deck can cost that much money with ease and will be good

November 15, 2015 4:08 p.m.

Just a little parentheses here.

(

I am in no sense an expert on goblin decks, but: goblin decks are basically inexistent in Modern, decent in Legacy. They also cost around $400 (in Modern), and two thirds of that cost are the lands. So yeah, goblins kinda suck.

Also, cheap decks are in no sense bad, the same that expensive decks are in no sense good. Living End and U-Tron are two Modern decks that are in the $200 range and are both established Tier 2-1.5 lists. In the opposite case, I brewed up a four color control list a while ago that costs around $1600 (might be more or less, I haven't checked in a while) and that is pure jank.

Now if you actually want to have a discussion about this, I would invite you to post on my wall. Otherwise, those are the facts.

I was in no way saying goblins are good and I may of picked a bad word for the topic (will) but other than that I agree with the above post
