Change before the primer —Jan. 29, 2019

Addition of:

Removal of:

Carnival of Souls: opens up another oathswon line with seerer aswell as a manual storm with Phyrexian Altar off of Angel's Grace + Naus using Rolling Earthquake as an outlet.

Guul Draz Assassin: 2 bodies and in pod's where Tymna the Weaver or Najeela, the Blade-Blossom run rampant, having the extra utility makes this a slightly relevant body.

Disenchant > Fragmentize: we wanna kill leyline without jumping through hoops sometimes, Leonin Relic-Warder / Praetor's Grasp. As well as being able to remove stax at instant speed removing some bottle necks the deck could run into.

Scroll Rack: I love Ad Nauseam, why not exchange the bad cards for good cards?

Very cool deck! Have you considered Grand Abolisher at all for extra disruption/protection on combo turn? Or does the double white make him too inconvenient to play?

Hi artichoker, I just updated the list but I didn't include Abolisher and here are some reasons why:

  • White mana is hard to obtain sometimes
  • The deck usually wants to win within the first 3-4 turns of the game so abolisher is a bit clunky for that gameplan
  • Hand distribution is usually much better, but I can see abolisher being played in the deck if your meta is riddled with control decks but i'd opt to play a more midrange gameplan.

Sorry for the late reply i've been busy with school as of recent and hence magic has mostly got the cut. :(

Nice Deck and Primer. I always enjoy cool ways like this to utilize DD. Nevertheless there is one issue with your primer, which doesn't really matter cause you can just use the given alternative line, but Darkest Hour makes all creatures lose all other colors except black, what makes it impossible to sacrifice the creatures to Teysa, Orzhov Scion, so you can't sac the spirits made by her as long as Hour is on the battlefield.

OH!

Okay, thank you TheGodofUndead I'll get around to editing the budget version and primer in the near future to include that by adding either Viscera Seer or Phyrexian Altar, that will mostly be changes to the budget list as now we can generate infinite mana off altar to funnel into Rolling Earthquake + Angel's Grace.

This is an awesome deck! Im glad to see Edgar being competitive. I was just wondering, what is the steelshapers gift doing here?

Hi YourOwnFreeWill,

Steelshapers gift is a new inclusion to the list as a low mana tutor for Skullclamp, this allows the deck to draw lots of cards as Edgar allows for more 1/1 bodies to be made to be clamped. This allows the deck to play a usually longer and protected gameplay and also being able to make the razaketh fodder more redundant. This is a flex slot though so feel free to make suggestions if you have any! I am aiming to make the list lean but also have a lot of angles to win with the least dead pieces I can put together.

Cool deck, this is definitely worthy of a higher tier ranking imo.

Wouldnt Open the Armory be better than Steelshaper's Gift? Its only one more mana and has the added utility of snagging Animate Dead or Dance of the Dead, possibly even allowing for a cut of Necromancy.

Forgive my ignorance, but Im having trouble seeing the use of Yawgmoths Will. Doesnt its replacement effect turn off our win cons (Oathsworn and Leonin), as it would put them in exile instead of the graveyard?

Hi Nic44 and YourOwnFreeWill,

Thanks for your comments! Sorry this is such a late reply life has been busy recently so I haven't been able to dedicate time to my hobbies, but I'll address both your questions:

Nic44 Thank you for the support! Open the Armory has been a great addition, it was on my testing list for a while and is a vast improvement on Steelshaper's Gift. That is because of the reasons you listed, since that gives me more lines and allows the deck to run more fluently :) ! I'll keep Necromancy in for now as it is a dynamic win condition but I'll elaborate in this next part.

YourOwnFreeWill Thanks for the additional feedback I apreciate it a lot, and I apologise again for how long i've put off my reply. Yawgmoth's Will is a value card first and foremost. It allows us to recover from failed combo attempts later in the game and can pull together lines when we are trying to win the game. An example of this is it allows us to reuse our Dark Ritual effects and abuse Lion's Eye Diamond as well, we can drain this excess mana into Rolling Earthquake to kill everyone but by using Angel's Grace survive the damage and/or this can be coupled with Blood Artist effects and creatures to drain for additional damage. Another use for Yawgmoth's Will is it allows us to transfer our floating mana from rituals into 'static mana' (mana invested in permanents such as Sol Ring) to hold up the Leonin Relic-Warder combo for the next player upkeep with a combination of Entomb or Insolent Neonate, Necromancy and a Blood Artist effect. The Leonin Relic-Warder line can be supported by the use of doomsday to put cards back into our library or return them to our hands using a combination of Doomsday and Skullclamp or razaketh, the foulblooded , some cards worth returning are discard and interaction for the next upkeep. A side note, when attempting this line be sure to remove Faerie Macabre from opponent's hands as there is no way of recovering at instant speed to it's activation.

Thanks for spending your time commenting people, I'll attempt to be somewhat punctual when addressing comments and updates but it is getting harder for me to do so, but I will keep trying :D. Hope you all have a good easter!

Correction: We can transfer floating mana into 'static mana' by using By Force to destroy mana rocks and replay them from your graveyard untapped after casting Yawgmoth's Will.*

Hey Iraruel, how is Doomsday working out for you? Is it safe to say its a solid replacement for Teysa, Orzhov Scion and her combo pieces or has it been underperforming?

Hi Gwent,

I've had a love hate relationship with it as far, but when it has worked it's worked well. In some of the last few games with the deck I've lynch pinned on it heavily, as the increase in draw effects from Tymna the Weaver and Skullclamp in general made the card a more solid game plan. The utility of the card hasn't been as predominant as I was hoping for since there has been a decline in the Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge and a lack of situations where all 3 Animate Dead effects have been in the graveyard. But overall it's been sweet definitly still want to test it, if it's not already a permanent inclusion. All I need now is a 0 drop vamp to make my lines cheaper. :)

Regards,

Iraruel

Oh another note worth bringing up is the inclusion of the secondary Blood Artist combo with Phyrexian Altar and Oathsworn Vampire, which most likely reduces the need for an additional combo with Teysa, Orzhov Scion as there are less dead cards. This can be seen with Oathsworn Vampire's interaction with cards such as Skullclamp and Diabolic Intent, as well as Phyrexian Altar doubling as another win condition after drawing your deck from Ad Nauseam and Angel's Grace by using creatures as rituals for Rolling Earthquake.

Hey man! Love the deck! I've been building it myself but the current price of LED has been a pain (there are other expensive cards but I feel LED is one of the backbones that allows for many of the combos to go off).

Minor note: You took out Infernal Plunge from the deck and it is depicted as a doomsday standalone pile with insolent neonate. Of course you can deduce other things to get but its just for nitpicking.

Thanks for posting it.

Relevant spoiler. Don't know how good it is, since it can't attack well for Tymna

Hey! Just wanted to say thank you for providing me with the opportunity to, in a 4 player cedh pod, disable a Flash Hulk combo with Faerie Macabre, followed by disabling another hulk like combo with a flashed Necromancy immediately after (a different player), and proceed to win with a Ad Nauseum into Blood Artist+Oathsworn combo.

This one made my day. Love the deck.
