The deck above is a pretty good deck. It's also around $880. This deck costs nearly a fourth of that, and still makes pretty quick work of an opponent. Here's the budget cuts and upgrade paths I'd take to turn this deck into the main version:

(Disclaimer: This version of the deck is probably more suited for FMN or other casual to semi-competitive events. By no means should you take this to a GP or a Pro Tour Qualifier.)

Mainboard

Arcbound Ravager: The Ravager has a lot of synergy with Hangarback Walker and the other artifacts in the deck. Since a playest of him is roughly $170, I opted to run Etched Champion in its place. It becomes an unblockable creature outside of the mirror match and with a Cranial Plating on it, it becomes devastating.

Mox Opal: There's no real "replacement" for this card. It works so well in the nut draws that there aren't many cards that do its job. Since it costs $160 for a playset of Opals, I decided to turn them into another Affinity staple; Vault Skirge. When you put a Cranial Plating on this guy, prepare for your opponent to cry (+1 for the rhyme!).

Day's Undoing: This card refuels your hand. Since it's $24 for two copies, I increased the Thoughtcast count to 3 and the Master of Etherium count to 3. Not much to say here.

Glimmervoid: This card is super important in getting you colored mana for things like Thoughtcast, Shrapnel Blast, and your sideboard. The 3 copies I run cost $69 though (heh), so run City of Brass instead. While you'll loose 1 life each time you use it, it works even if they resolve a Creeping Corrosion.

Inkmoth Nexus: This card is important in giving you an alternative way to win; infect. While cutting it is basically removing this route to victory, you'll be saving yourself $100. In it's place you can run painlands. I chose Shivan Reef to cast all of the mainboard cards I have in here, but depending on your sideboard you can run any combination of them really.

Sideboard

Blood Moon: This card is great against greedy manabases, such as Bloom Titan, Tron, and others. While there's not really a replacement for the card, Ghost Quarter can get rid of the troublesome lands for you.

Thoughtseize: Duress is the go-to budget option for replacing this card. It comes in against Control and Combo, getting rid of removal and important combo pieces.

Spell Pierce: While it's not too expensive, people don't like paying $3 for commons. Negate counters most of the same stuff.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS THE SAME.

Tell me what you think of this budget version of my deck! You should also check out the actual version if you're interested in a competitive version. +1 if you like playing Modern decks that are good on a budget!
