Maybeboard

Now that Pioneer is in full swing, I felt like it was time to take this deck to the next level and completely embrace the Angels that have graced MTG over the past few years. The first version of this deck was Selesnya Good Stuff with everything I loved from Dominaria. But now that I have more to consider, I wanted it to be a little more aggro and I think Boros is the way to go.

I took this first iteration with Chandra and she did alright, but I think Nahiri has better synergy with this deck so I will give her a go next time around. I also swapped out Gisela for Archangel of Tithes simply due to how many folks play RDW in my meta. Gisela drops so easily with almost any burn spell (not to mention a hard hit with my own Clarion) and the Archangel slows down those pesky red creatures too. I thought I might lose some life-gain ... but ultimately, my Bishops take care of that for me most in this deck.

Original Deck

This deck was originally built as a G/W good-stuff with the closers being the new Angels from Dominaria. I found them with the combination of Blossoming Defense super effective since I only ever needed to focus on keeping Shalai alive while everyone else just pounded away at my opponents. This set-up has been my most successful deck to date in Standard play with a very nice record of 42W, 12L, and 3T over the several months I played it. I didn't incorporate Resplendent Angel since the Steel Leaf Champion was a better turn-three option with a strong green base. The green ability of Shalai was also very effective in a long game.

Took this deck to a competitive event and went 2-2.

Overall I think it was a little too mid-range for what I think I want. I used to like the idea of Karn with the Treasure Maps as an alternate win condition and the Treasure Tokens always helps in a push, but ultimately I think they're just slowing me down.

Pulled them out in favor of two more land, added another angel (Shalai) and an additional Embercleave and Brave the Elements for protection.

The first match I lost was against an aggro mono black Vampires. He had an answer for every creature I tried to cast and I never saw any of my protection or removal despite curving out with my creatures.

The second match I lost went 1-2 and I simply got mana screwed in the third game with all four bishops on the board and an angel I couldn't cast in my hand. It was infuriating.

I did beat out a mono green stompy deck and when I played Treasure Map in game one he goes, "Oh, I love it when people play Treasures," ... because they're slow decks and he had two steel leafs on the board in turn three. I pulled off the wins with heavy angels with lifelink, sided in Dec in Stone and exiled his heavy hitters in game two for a similar win with Lyra.

Looking forward to trying again with some changes. This is still my favorite deck to play in Pioneer at the moment.
